  • Patent number: 6324673
Abstract: The method and apparatus for performing design rule checking on Manhattan structures in VLSI circuit layouts. The method and apparatus provides an edge-endpoint-based technique for checking the geometry and spacing of the VLSI circuit layout. The edge-endpoint-based technique uses a scanline algorithm that detects errors between adjacent structures that do not simultaneously intersect the scanline. The method also provides efficient error compilation. The apparatus allows for the design rules to be changed as the VLSI circuit layout evolves. The apparatus can process the VLSI circuit layout with a single processor, and the apparatus provides for multiple processors to process slices of the VLSI circuit layout, thereby enhancing the speed of the design rule checking over traditional software-only techniques.

  • Patent number: 6324049
Abstract: An electric double layer capacitor is formed by stacking one or a plurality of basic cells each having a pair of polarized electrodes, collectors, and a gasket unit. The polarized electrodes oppose each other via a separator made from a porous material soaked in a water-based electrolytic solution such as sulfuric acid. The collectors contact surfaces of the polarized electrodes away from surfaces in contact with the separator. The gasket unit is so arranged as to surround peripheral end faces of the polarized electrodes with a predetermined spacing therebetween. In this electric double layer capacitor, a peripheral portion of the separator projecting from the polarized electrode end faces is surrounded by another material.

  • Patent number: 6323979
Abstract: The invention relates to a regenerator using optical phase modulation in an optical fiber transmission system using soliton signals. According to the invention, the soliton signal is modulated by a clock in a modulator which is itself contained in an interferometer; the output signal from the interferometer has intensity that is representative of the phase difference between the clock and the soliton signal, and is therefore suitable for use in controlling the phase of the clock. In an embodiment, the interferometer is a Sagnac interferometer constituted by a non-linear optical loop mirror, and the modulation is distributed phase modulation in the transmission fiber. This enables the clock to be synchronized in simple manner.

  • Patent number: 6324679
Abstract: A method and apparatus for design-for-low-power of register transfer level (RTL) controller/data path circuits that implement control-flow intensive specifications. The method of the invention focuses on multiplexer networks and registers which dominate the total circuit power consumption and reduces generation and propagation of glitches in both the control and data path parts of the circuit. Further the method reduces glitching power consumption by minimizing propagation of glitches in the RTL circuit through restructuring multiplexer networks (to enhance data correlations and eliminate glitchy control signals), clocking control signals, and inserting selective rising/falling delays, in order to kill the propagation of glitches from control as well as data signals. To reduce power consumption in registers, the clock inputs to registers are gated with conditions derived by an analysis of the RTL circuit, ensuring that glitches are not introduced on the clock signals.

  • Patent number: 6324005
Abstract: A focusing optical system is provided which prevents unevenness in a distribution of an amount of light caused by positional offset of a light source, and which can focus with high precision. A diffraction grating and a focusing lens are provided in a casing of the focusing optical system. Due to the diffraction grating, each of focused spots on a photosensitive material are focused at a magnification which is greater than a focusing magnification determined by the focusing lens. Even if a light beam is offset in a subscanning direction, unevenness in the distribution of the amount of light can be reduced and highly precise focusing can be achieved.

  • Patent number: 6323786
Abstract: An absolute-value encoder device for detecting a plurality of rotation quantities is disclosed. An A/B phase forming portion 610 forms an A-phase pulse signal and a B-phase pulse signal, based on light passing through a slit rotating together with a rotary shaft. One period of each of those pulse signals corresponds to one revolution of a rotary shaft. The A- and B-phase pulse signals are displaced in phase by 90° from each other. When an A/B-phase state detecting portion 640 detects a state change of each of those pulse signals, a clock forming portion 66 changes a frequency of a clock pulse signal to another frequency.
