Abstract: A construction block of generally rectangular form having parallel upper and lower faces between which extend, through the block, one or more wide apertures and a plurality of narrow holes; the end faces of the block have wide grooves which cooperate, in a wall structure constructed from a plurality of horizontal courses of such blocks, to provide chambers between adjacent blocks of a course, the wide apertures in the blocks of adjacent courses cooperating to form vertically extending channels, the narrow holes house locating pins for holding the blocks of adjacent courses together until they are joined by concrete cast into the said vertical channels; the said upper and lower parallel faces have central depressions which form, between adjacent courses of blocks, horizontal channels linking the vertical channels so that the concrete cast into the vertical channels can also flow into and fill the horizontal channels to form an interlinked network giving great strength to the wall.
Abstract: A support suitable for spin coating which is transparent to near ultraviolet and visible light and has a flat surface to be coated, wherein the periphery of the surface is removed in an amount of at least the excess thickness at the periphery of a coated layer to be formed by spin coating so that the surface of the coated layer at the periphery is not raised as compared to the surface of the coated layer at the center. A mask blank which has a mask layer formed on the support is also disclosed as is a light-sensitive photographic material which has a silver halide emulsion layer formed on the support or the mask blank. The process is also claimed.
Abstract: The grinding machine is of the type adapted for grinding a workpiece having a surface of revolution such as a taper or barrel roller of a rolling element bearing. The two end faces of the workpiece are clamped between adjacent ends of two mandrels which are rotatable about a common axis. The adjacent ends of the two mandrels are formed with respective noses for effecting the clamping of the workpiece. One nose is formed with a seating in the form of a flat face or a concave surface of revolution the axis of which is coincident with the common axis of rotation of the two mandrels. The other nose is provided with a cavity having a tapered opening through which a spring loaded ball partially protrudes.
Abstract: A magnetic recording member comprising a non-magnetic support having thereon a magnetic layer of a ferromagnetic powder dispersed in a binder, wherein the magnetic layer contains an organic silicone compound represented by the formula (I): ##STR1## wherein R and R', which may be the same or different, each is a saturated or unsaturated hydrocarbon group containing 7 to 21 carbon atoms, and n is an integer of 0 to 50.
Abstract: A method of bearing a pivoting member on an axle which member is intended to transmit great forces between two other members. The pivoting member may constitute a load transmitting latch pivotable between an operative and inoperative position. The latch is mounted such that there is only a small clearance between a rear surface thereof and a complenetary surface of the associated holding member. The mounting permits shifting of the latch relative to its associated holding member such that the latch in the operative load carrying position is displaced in the longitudinal direction thereof through such a distance that the load transmitting direct contact engagement is obtained between the surfaces.
Abstract: A circuit for generating a saw tooth waveform in a coil such as the deflection coil of a television picture tube, comprising a first circuit branch including a capacitor serving as an energy storing current source and a controllable rectifier, and a second circuit branch including another current source, a second controllable rectifier and a resonant circuit comprising two reactances, constituted by an inductance and a capacitor which are connected in circuit by the second controllable rectifier and act to draw current from the two sources away from the deflection coil when the second controllable rectifier is fired whereby to initiate the flyback portion of the saw tooth waveform.

Abstract: A mixed propulsion system comprising a turbine unit having two output shafts which drive two counter rotating flywheels and, via a reduction gearbox, two generators which generate electricity to drive two electric drive motors the output shafts of which are connected to the wheels of the vehicle. A control system is provided, linked to the accelerator and brake pedal of the vehicle, for controlling the excitation of the field windings of the generators and the motors such that a predetermined excitation pattern is followed. The turbine unit is automatically controlled to run when the speed of the flywheels falls below a lower threshold value and is turned off when the flywheels reach a predetermined maximum threshold speed.

Abstract: A spinning reel of the type having a bail arm and wherein an L-shaped kick lever rotating synchronously with the reel rotor engages a trip tab to thereby release the bail arm, further includes a braking surface immediately preceding the trip tab in the path of the projection. While the bail arm is cocked, slight rotation of the rotor due to eccentric weight distributions will be arrested when the braking surface frictionally engages the projection, thereby preventing premature and inadvertent release of the bail arm. The frictional engagement is relatively light, and may easily be overridden by turning the reel handle to thereby release the bail arm when desired.
