  • Patent number: 4618355
Abstract: A method for sealing a mount including a wafer in a neck of a stationary cathode-ray tube comprises positioning a first tier of burner tips completely around the neck such that the burner tips are aimed nonradially along directions tangent to a first circle, the plane of the first circle being aligned along the wafer. The first tier of burner tips is split into at least first and second radial segments, each segment being connected to means for moving the segment toward and away from the neck. The first tier of burner tips, while remaining stationary, provide a vortical pattern of flames around the neck. The radial segments are then removed from around the stationary neck sufficiently to allow the tube to proceed along a conveyor line.

  • Patent number: 4615205
Abstract: A punch and pad for forming a square planar shadow mask have curved outer edges. A pair of dies respectively receiving the punch and pad have straight inner edges. The dies clamp a flat shadow mask blank and the punch is lowered to only partially form the shadow mask. The mask is then unclamped and the punch is fully lowered towards the pad to complete the forming of the mask without wrinkles.

  • Patent number: 4604072
Abstract: A CRT has a spring for mounting the shadow mask assembly of the CRT onto a stud of the CRT panel. The spring has a circular flange contered on a stud receiving hole. Thus the stud hole is always straight up and at a fixed distance from a locator of an insertion machine regardless of any tilt of the spring, and therefore the shadow mask assembly is always correctly inserted into the panel.

  • Patent number: 4602186
Abstract: A CRT has an Einzel lens focus mask with a high voltage between the shadow mask and the meshes to achieve a strong focusing action and therefore minimize beam current interception by the shadow mask. The mask is supported by an insulating block inside a tube. During gettering, the getter material does not deposit on the inside of the tube and therefore spurious conduction paths are avoided. Thus the support can withstand the high voltage. A lead-in wire for the mask has a tube surrounding it which is open near the mask. This also withstands the high voltage.

  • Patent number: 4602316
Abstract: A technique for interconnecting a plurality of stacked printed circuit boards, each board having a plurality of spaced contact areas at an edge thereof, utilizes a multiconductor cable having a plurality of insulation-stripped window regions therein at predetermined intervals. The cable is continuous through a plurality of the window regions which are positioned, respectively, adjacent the edges of the printed circuit boards so that, at each window region, each stripped wire is aligned with a different contact area. The stripped wires are soldered in bulk to their respective contact areas.

  • Patent number: 4599606
Abstract: A system for inputting any one of a plurality of inputs to a computer includes a latch circuit which provides an input to the computer in response to the input. The latch circuit also provides a start signal to the computer when the parity is correct. The start signal is delayed so that the system is independent of the amount of time that a switch is held closed by the operator.

  • Patent number: 4584481
Abstract: A method of testing a panel assembly of a color cathode-ray tube, prior to sealing a faceplate panel of the assembly to a funnel section of the tube, detects defects in the assembly including dents and misregistration of an apertured shadow mask mounted therein adjacent to a luminescent screen disposed on the faceplate panel. The screen is exposed to radiation passed through apertures in the mask including ultraviolet but substantially excluding visible radiation, and examined for variations in color from light emitted by the screen, whereby the variations in color are indicative of defects in the assembly.

  • Patent number: 4570134
Abstract: A hybrid uses stubs to provide 90 degrees of phase shift between output lines for feeding a circularly polarized antenna. Capacitive and inductive stubs have low and high characteristic impedances for broad bandwidth. The stubs can be located in the output lines for compactness, or in a T-section between an input line and the output lines, for compactness, to minimize undesired phase shift, and for ease of connection. The hybrid can include one quarter wave transformers having a characteristic impedance of geometric mean of the hybrid and antenna for improved axial ratio.
