Abstract: An animal confinement/training system controls the behavior of the animal through electrical stimulation to the skin of the animal. A stationary first transmitter transmits an air-borne first encoded signal. A portable second transmitter transmits an air-borne second encoded signal. A receiver includes a receiver circuit coupled with a pair of electrodes. The receiver circuit is responsive to either of the first encoded signal or the second encoded signal for applying electrical stimulation to the skin of the animal with the pair of electrodes. The receiver further includes a temporary disabling device for temporarily disabling the responsiveness of the receiver circuit to the first encoded signal. The receiver circuit may also be responsive to another encoded signal from the second transmitter for actuating an illuminating light and/or audible alarm without applying electrical stimulation to the skin of the animal.

Abstract: A metering size press rod assembly specifically for use in a paper-making machine is stored and transported in a container and use in the paper-making machine. A plurality of metering size press rod assemblies are assembled. A storage sand transport container is provided at shipping location. The container includes a plurality of elongate openings therein. Each metering size press rod assembly is loaded into a corresponding one of the elongate openings in the container. The container is then transported to a user location, the metering size press assemblies are then sequentially and individually removed from the container, used in the papermaking machine and reloaded into the elongate openings in the container. The container with the used metering size press rod assemblies is the transported back to the shipping location.

Abstract: In a distributing apparatus including a tubular manifold, for an applicator for direct or indirect application of a liquid or pasty application medium onto a traveling material web, notably a paper web or cardboard web, the cross section of the tubular manifold is variable. The adjustment of the manifold permits verying the rate of application of liquid or pastry medium across the distributors width.
Abstract: In a method for direct or indirect application of a liquid or pasty medium onto a traveling material web, notably of paper or cardboard, where during the application the cross profile (length profile) of the medium is modified under control and thereafter, in the direction of travel, the length profile (cross profile) of the previously applied medium is modified under control. Control of the cross profile and control of the length profile of the applied medium occur separately from one another in automatic control loops based on measurements of the applied profile. In addition is a pertaining apparatus with an applicator, an equalizer, a pertaining cross profile control loop, and a pertaining length profile control loop.

Abstract: A method of producing a hole in a fiber reinforced composite material workpiece includes the step of providing a cutting tool having a shaft, a cutting head, and an axis of rotation. The cutting head has a diameter which is substantially smaller than the diameter of the hole that is produced. The shaft has a diameter which is substantially smaller than the diameter of the cutting head. The cutting head has a height which is substantially smaller than the depth of the hole that is produced. The cutting tool is oriented such that the axis of rotation of the cutting tool is substantially orthogonal to the surface of the workpiece. The workpiece is simultaneously machined in both an axial and a radial direction relative to the longitudinal axis of the hole, by simultaneously rotating the cutting tool around the axis of rotation, moving the cutting tool in an axial direction, and moving the cutting tool eccentrically around the longitudinal axis of the hole.
