  • Patent number: 5753081
Abstract: The invention is directed to a paper machine including a headbox having an inlet and an outlet. A fluid conduit is connected to the inlet of the headbox. A sensor is disposed in communication with an interior of the headbox. The sensor senses a pressure of the fiber suspension within the headbox and provides a signal corresponding thereto. A first pump is connected to the fluid conduit and supplies a fiber suspension to the headbox through the fluid conduit. A second pump is connected to the fluid conduit between the first pump and the headbox, and further is connected to the sensor. The second pump is a substantially pulseless pump, and transports the fiber suspension away from the fluid conduit, dependent upon the sensed signal.

  • Patent number: 5738726
Abstract: A roll doctor assembly as dosing element for a coater serving to coat a traveling web (e.g., paper web) features a rotatable doctor bar (14) that extends transversely across the web width. The doctor bar (14) is fitted in a doctor backing (12). The doctor backing (12) extends as well transversely across the web width. According to the invention, the doctor bar (14; 14'; 14") and the doctor backing (12; 12'; 12") are part of a modular system, so that the doctor bar is exchangeable for another with different outside diameter and, consequently, the doctor backing is exchangeable for another with different bearing diameter. The different doctor backings are adapted to one another to the effect that the axes of rotation of the different doctor bars (14; 14'; 14") assume the same position relative to the support beam (10).

  • Patent number: 5732903
Abstract: An apparatus for unwinding and/or supplying material layers includes a rotatable driving mechanism coupled with a primary reel operable as a drive and a brake. A control unit is connected with the driving mechanism, and includes a rotational speed regulator and a tension regulator. The rotational speed regulator controls a rotational speed of the driving mechanism. The tension regulator maintains a tension in a primary material layer of a primary reel and a secondary material layer of a secondary reel. The rotational speed regulator controls the driving mechanism as a drive such that the primary reel has a rotational speed n.sub.B resulting in a tangential speed of the primary reel which is faster than the process speed of the unwinding secondary material layer. The rotational speed regulator also controls the driving mechanism as a brake such that the rotational speed is decreased from a rotational speed n.sub.B down to a synchronized rotational speed n.sub.

  • Patent number: 5730376
Abstract: The invention is directed to a processing apparatus which can be used, for example, to disperse highly consistent fibrous paper substances. The apparatus consists of at least two intermeshed processing tools (1, 2), which are movable with respect to one another and which are provided with teeth (3, 3', 3", 4, 4"). The fibrous substance that is being processed passes along a gap between the processing tools and finally leaves the apparatus through an expulsion mechanism (8) that allows the adjustment of the size of the exit opening through which the substance exits. The control of the size of the exit opening allows control over the degree of compression acting on the substance and the fill level of the apparatus, both of which in effect control the process intensity.

  • Patent number: 5688139
Abstract: The invention is directed to a lamp holder for carrying a fluorescent lamp, including two contact pins, with each contact pin having a diameter. A socket includes an inner hub, two slots and a conductor. The two slots are disposed on opposite sides of the inner hub. A spring biases the contact pins out of the slots. The conductor is associated with each slot, and is configured to engage each contact pin of the fluorescent lamp. The conductor and the inner hub define a clearance distance therebetween in a direction transverse to a longitudinal direction of each slot, with the clearance distance at all times being greater than the diameter of the contact pins. The clearance distance allows the contact pins to be moved away from the conductor by the spring, to thereby prevent electrical arcing when one of the contact pins is not fully engaged with the conductor.
