  • Patent number: 6202762
Abstract: An improved drilling assembly of the type comprising a fluid driven motor, a driveshaft operatively connected with the motor, a housing for enclosing the driveshaft and an annular flow passage defined between the driveshaft and the housing for circulating drive fluid therethrough. The improvement comprises a drive fluid flow restrictor device comprising a constricted section in the annular flow passage, an expanded section in the annular flow passage and a valve member positioned in the annular flow passage. The valve member is movable axially in the annular flow passage between the constricted section and the expanded section to define a flow restricting position and a normal flow position When the valve member is in the flow restricting position the circulation of drive fluid through the annular flow passage is restricted. When the valve member is in the normal flow position the circulation of drive fluid through the annular flow passage is relatively unrestricted.

  • Patent number: 6158513
Abstract: An apparatus and method for directing a first and a second object into a primary and a secondary borehole respectively from a main borehole communicating therewith at a borehole junction. The apparatus includes a deflector for positioning at the borehole junction to direct the first and second objects into the primary and secondary boreholes. A retainer holds the objects relative to each other such that when the first object is aligned to be directed into the primary borehole, the second object is aligned to be directed into the secondary borehole. A retainer orienting mechanism orients the retainer relative to the borehole junction so that the objects are aligned to be directed into the boreholes. The method includes positioning the deflector at the borehole junction and inserting the objects and the retainer into the main borehole. The retainer is oriented relative to the borehole junction so that the objects are aligned to be directed into their respective boreholes.

  • Patent number: 6095241
Abstract: A device for connection to a wellhead for coupling a drive assembly for a downhole pump with an apparatus having a rotatable member for driving the apparatus. A rotatable first shaft, having a first end and a longitudinal axis, is associated with the drive assembly such that the first shaft is rotated thereby. A rotatable connector, having driven and drive ends, connects the first shaft with the rotatable member such that rotation of the first shaft rotates the connector. The driven end connects with the first end of the first shaft. The drive end connects with the rotatable member. A rotatable coupler, having driven and drive ends and a longitudinal axis, connects the first shaft with the connector. The driven end of the coupler connects with the first end of the first shaft. The drive end of the coupler connects with the driven end of the connector.

  • Patent number: 6089320
Abstract: An apparatus and method for completing a junction between a primary and secondary wellbore. A deflector is located in the primary wellbore adjacent to the wellbore junction. The apparatus comprises a conduit comprising: an upper section; a lower section comprising a primary leg for engaging a seat of the deflector and a secondary leg for insertion in the secondary wellbore; and a deformable conduit junction located between the upper and lower sections whereby the conduit is separated into the legs; such that when the apparatus is lowered in the primary wellbore, the secondary leg is deflected into the secondary wellbore by the deflector such that the conduit junction becomes deformed, and the primary leg then engages the seat.

  • Patent number: 6041855
Abstract: An apparatus for providing a high torque pressure sleeve for easily drillable casing exit ports. A joint of tubular casing with a pre-formed window in the wall thereof has a tubular sleeve fixedly attached to the exterior of the tubular casing covering the window. The interior surface of the sleeve is sealed to the exterior of the tubular casing on opposite sides of the window. In use, the joint of the tubular casing is run down to the depth of interest in the earth wellbore and the window is oriented with respect to the formation of interest at the depth. The joint of tubular casing is then cemented in place, after which a whipstock is lowered into the wellbore, oriented and anchored therein. The assembly automatimuly fixes the axial and circumferential oriention of the whipstock within a surrounding casing joint and holds the assembly in place.

  • Patent number: 5839227
Abstract: A safety edge for an electrically operated door includes a female housing strip adapted for attachment to an edge of a door and a male actuator strip. The female housing strip has an interior cavity in which is positioned a first electrical contact. The male actuator strip has a second electrical contact. The male actuator is telescopically received in the female housing. The male actuator strip is movable between a first position in which the second electrical contact is spaced from the first electrical contact and a second position in which the second electrical contact engages the first electrical contact.

  • Patent number: 5688112
Abstract: The present invention relates to a pump utilizing multiple tubes that are arranged helically and with the ends of the tubes oriented axially and not tangential to the drive shaft. Operation of the pump is achieved by rotation of the drive shaft. Rollers are positioned on the shaft such that the compressible tubes are compressed to the point where fluid cannot move within the tubes past the line of compression. The lines of compression move along the tubes by rotation of the shaft. Due to the helical arrangement of the tubes the lines of compression also move axially along the shaft. The fluid enters the tubes at the entrance portion of the tubes and is forced through the tubes due to the moving lines of compression and finally exit the tubes at the exit portion of the tubes. Continued rotation of the shaft causes continuous pumping of the fluid. This results in a very economical and compact pump for use in confined spaces or requiring axial flow. The multiple tubes also provide for a high rate of flow.

  • Patent number: 5636690
Abstract: A torque anchor for the purpose of anchoring well equipment within a well conduit. The device anchors the well equipment from rotation in one direction but allows rotation in the other. The device has a body with slips and a driving portion within the slip. The slip has a friction surface which slides against the well conduit. This prevents damage to the gripping teeth or the well conduit. The slip has a gripping teeth portion which engages the well conduit only when the anchor is set. The slip is urged outward by the use of a spring. A portion of the slip is the drive surface which engages the driving portion. This drive surface is such that the perpendicular distance from the drive surface to the outer edge of the gripping teeth increases along the slip in the direction away from the friction surface. The slip has a portion which retains the slip within the anchor and thereby does not require any retaining means.
