Abstract: A foam and method for making such foam includes a blend of a low density polyethylene and a higher density ethylene polymer. The ethylene polymer has a density ranging from greater than 0.94 to about 0.97 grams/cubic centimeter and a melt flow index of greater than 10 g/10 minutes, and may include at least one member selected from ethylene/alpha-olefin copolymer, ethylene homopolymer, and blends thereof.
Abstract: An apparatus for forming inflated containers generally includes a mechanism that conveys a web of film along a path of travel, the film web including one or more pre-formed flexible containers; an inflation assembly positioned adjacent the travel path to direct gas into the containers, thereby forming inflated containers; and a device for sealing closed each inflated container. Various improvements for more reliably and consistently inflating the containers are also disclosed.
Abstract: A composite structure, which generally includes:
a. a foam sheet comprising polyolefin; and
b. a coating disposed on at least one surface of the polyolefin foam sheet, the coating comprising at least one member selected from ethylene/propylene rubber, homogeneous ethylene/alpha-olefin copolymer, ethylene/acrylic acid copolymer, ethylene/vinyl acetate copolymer, and blends of the foregoing.
Abstract: A thermoformable, multilayer, co-extruded sheet comprising at least two separate foam polypropylene layers obtained by chemical foaming of two polyproplene resins having different flexural modulus, a “high modulus” polypropylene and a “low modulus” polypropylene. The presence of two different foam layers of polypropylene of different modulus allows obtaining a thermoformable sheet with the desired balance between thermoformability and stiffness.

Abstract: A multi-layer gas- and odour-barrier film comprising a gas- and odor-barrier layer a) and at least one outer layer b) comprising a blend of an ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer, an ethylene-alkyl-acrylate or alkyl-methacrylate copolymer and from about 1 to about 15% by weight on the overall weight of the blend of a silicone elastomer.
Abstract: A foam, comprising a blend of (a) from 0.1 to 4.9 weight percent ethylene/styrene interpolymer; and (b) from 95.1 to 99.9 weight percent polyethylene homopolymer or copolymer.
Abstract: A composite structure, which generally includes:
a. a foam sheet comprising polyolefin; and
b. a coating disposed on at least one surface of the polyolefin foam sheet, the coating comprising at least one member selected from the group consisting of ethylene/propylene rubber, homogeneous ethylene/alpha-olefin copolymer, and ethylene/acrylic acid copolymer.
Abstract: An apparatus for dispensing fluid into pre-formed, flexible containers and enclosing the fluid within the containers includes a web of film comprising a series of pre-formed flexible containers, each of the pre-formed containers being capable of holding therein a quantity of fluid and having an opening for receiving such fluid. After fluid is placed in each pre-formed container, the opening is sealed closed to thereby enclose the fluid within the container.
Abstract: A laminate generally includes:
a. a multilayer, gas-impermeable film capable of delaminating into a gas-permeable portion and a gas-impermeable portion, the gas-permeable portion in adherence with the gas-impermeable portion at a predetermined intra-film cohesive strength; and
b. a gas-permeable film bonded to the gas-impermeable film at a bond-strength that is greater than the intra-film cohesive strength between the gas-permeable and gas-impermeable portions of the gas-impermeable film. In this manner, when the laminate is subjected to a delaminating force, the laminate delaminates within the gas-impermeable film such that the gas-permeable portion of the gas-impermeable film remains bonded to the gas-permeable film.
A package and method of making a package using the laminate as a lidding film are also disclosed.
Abstract: A package which allows for butchering and packaging of fresh red meat at a centralized facility is provided which includes a an impermeable tray supporting the product, a first film sealed to the tray for enclosing the product, means defined within the first film for exchanging gases into and out of the package, and a second impermeable film enclosing the first film, such that removal of said impermeable film provides for the exchange of gases into and out of the package. The means for exchanging gases may be perforations defined within the first film, a second highly permeable film sealed to the first film, or an enlarged opening formed within the first film which is enclosed with a patch following adequate gas exchange at retail. Such gas exchange is required to release any low oxygen atmosphere and allow for the introduction of oxygen to the packaged meat product, said means for exchanging gases having a gas transmission rate of at least about 50,000 cc/m2/24 hrs./atm. at 73° F.

Abstract: An apparatus for forming inflated containers includes a film web that includes two juxtaposed film plies, a closed longitudinal edge, an open longitudinal edge, and a series of transverse seals having a first end located at the closed longitudinal edge and a second end terminating a predetermined distance from the open longitudinal edge such that each of the juxtaposed film plies have a section extending beyond the second end of the transverse seals, thereby forming a skirt that extends between adjacent containers at the open longitudinal edge. Such skirt facilitates inflation of each container.
Various features for improving the reliability and consistency of inflation of the containers are also disclosed.
Abstract: A device for sealing two plies of plastic film together generally includes an electrically conductive heating element and a rotatable support cylinder having an outer, circumferential surface, the cylinder being positioned in abutting relationship with the heating element and capable of rotating against the heating element, which is in fixed position, along a predetermined contact arc such that less than a complete circumference of the outer surface of the cylinder is in contact with the heating element.
Abstract: A stretch film heat-sealable to polystyrene-based material comprising a first outer heat-sealing layer, a second outer layer and at least an intermediate layer, comprising in the first outer heat-sealing layer a TPE-S such as a styrene-butadiene-styrene block terpolymer (SBS) or a hydrogenated derivative thereof. Also described are packages made with the new stretch film.

Abstract: A foam sheet including a blend of polypropylene and homogeneous ethylene/alpha-olefin copolymer, wherein the polypropylene is present in the blend at a weight percentage ranging from 70 to 95 and the homogeneous ethylene/alpha-olefin copolymer is present in the blend at a weight percentage ranging from 5 to 30. Foam composite structures in which the aforedescribed foam sheet is bonded to polyethylene and/or polypropylene foam sheets are also disclosed.
Abstract: A foam plank laminate of thermoplastic material comprises at least two expanded foam sheets, both partially perforated, and laminated with the perforated surfaces facing each other and the smooth non perforated surfaces as the outer plank surfaces.
The foam plank laminate can be obtained by an industrially acceptable production method as the partial perforation of the forming foam sheets accelerates the removal of a majority of the blowing agent from the foam structure, thus drastically reducing the curing time, and at the same time it has impermeability, good mechanical properties, and an attractive appearance.
