  • Patent number: 4664866
Abstract: A polymeric film having preferential one-sided cling is prepared from a relatively crystalline polymer such as a copolymer of ethylene and an .alpha.-olefin having at least 3 carbon atoms, e.g., 1-octene (linear low density polyethylene); a relatively amorphous polymer such as low density polyethylene and a tackifying polymer such as a low molecular weight polybutene by extruding a film of the blend at melt temperatures and subsequently cooling the two sides of the extruded film at different rates. In addition to preferential one-sided cling, a film of a low density polyethylene, linear low density polyethylene and a low molecular weight polybutene which exhibits excellent film strengths and high resistance to tear, particularly in the cross direction, is prepared.

  • Patent number: 4612216
Abstract: A multilayer metal/organic polymer composite which has a formable thermoplastic polymer layer, a first metal layer adhered to the polymer layer and a second metal layer adhered to the first metal layer. The first metal layer is formed either from one metal or from an alloy of two or more metals. Suitable alloys are those which begin melting at a temperature within a range of from about 85 to 150 percent of the forming temperatures in degrees Kelvin of the polymer layer. If the first metal layer is formed from one metal, the metal is suitably, copper, silver, nickel or manganese. The second metal layer is a metal or an alloy of two or more metals that melts at a temperature which is less than that at which the first metal layer melts.

  • Patent number: H631
Abstract: An apparatus for forming a cable. The cable generally comprises a core sheathed with a metal tape. A plastic jacket, e.g., polyethylene, is extruded over the sheath. The apparatus includes a self-tracking edge forming apparatus which bends the longitudinal edges of the tape. When the tape is overlapped over the core, the bent edges provide intimate control in the overlap area to promote proper sealing to eliminate failure of the cable jacket through a "zippering" effect. The edge forming apparatus may comprise a movable and a fixed forming roller, one of the forming rollers having a surface with flanged ends and the other surface having a surface that facially conforms to the curvatures of the flanged roller, and adjusting means to move the first roller relative to the second roller. The edge forming apparatus is self-tracking because it is mounted on a base comprising apparatus to movably adjust the edge forming apparatus in relation to lateral movement of the metal tape as it is pulled along the tape path.
