Abstract: A non-linear transistor circuit uses separate signal biasing and DC biasing to improve the power efficiency while preventing thermal runaway. An improved amplifier using this circuit has a DC bias voltage supply. Using separate biasing of the DC supply voltage and the signal allows a large value resistance for the DC bias network to prevent thermal runaway and a small value resistance for the signal biasing network to improve the circuit's efficiency. A point of thermal equilibrium is reached when the voltage drop across the DC bias resistance sufficiently reduces the voltage between the transistor's base and emitter, VBE, the base current, the collector current, and the junction temperature, resulting in thermal equilibrium.
Abstract: A guyed tower is used to support wireless communication equipment and/or other types of loads. The guyed tower is fixedly attached to a foundation, and a pole tower is erected within a middle region of the guyed tower. This pole tower is fixedly attached both to the foundation and to the guyed tower. Bending moments are transferred from the guyed tower to the pole tower via the collar that is disposed about the guyed tower. Thus, the presence of the pole tower within the middle region of the guyed tower increases the load capacity and stability of the guyed tower.

Abstract: A system and method of communicating voice and data via a local packet network (LPN) to and from a customer site. A remote digital terminal (RDT) is provided at a customer site to interface a plurality of telephone devices and/or data devices (computers or a local area network of computers) with the LPN via a local loop link, such as a Digital Subscriber Line or a wireless local loop. A host digital terminal (HDT) is provided at a control site within or connected to the LPN that coordinates the communication of voice calls between the RDT and a public switched telephone network (PSTN) switch via the LPN and that coordinates the communication of data between the RDT and a data network within or without the LPN. Multiple telephone calls with the customer site can be supported by the remote digital terminal over a single local loop link connected to the LPN.

Abstract: An apparatus and method for modeling an acoustic sound in an electric stringed musical instrument is provided. A preferred embodiment, among others, includes a bridge sensor configured to sensing string vibrations at the bridge of the instrument so that a bridge signal is generated in accordance with the vibrating strings. A body sensor, which may be positioned at different points on or within the body of the instrument, senses the resonance of the string vibrations. The body sensor generates a body resonance signal in accordance with the sensed resonance. An amplification circuit amplifies the body resonance signal when the amplitude of bridge signal exceeds a first predetermined level. In addition, a second amplification circuit amplifies the bridge signal. A summing circuit adds the amplified body resonance signal with the amplified bridge signal to produce an output signal that, when replicated in sound, models the sound of an acoustic instrument.

Abstract: A system, method, and apparatus for increasing the data rate on an existing repeatered telecommunication channel structure. In illustrative embodiments, replacement transceivers and replacement repeaters provide for transferring data streams via the existing channel structure at a rate substantially greater than the data transfer rate of the existing channel structure. The replacement transceivers and replacement repeaters are spectrally compatible with existing services and provide data transfer performance equal to or better than the performance of the existing channel structure.

In a preferred embodiment, a medical device for inhibiting a hyperplastic response in biological tissue generally comprises polymeric hydrocarbon molecules forming the medical device and a salt or an acid of a radioactive isotope occluded within the polymeric hydrocarbon molecules. Also in a preferred embodiment, a method of creating a medical device according to the present invention comprises: providing a first solvent in a container; introducing a salt or an acid of a radioactive isotope into the first solvent; introducing a second solvent into the first solution so as to form a second solution; and introducing the medical device into the second solution, wherein the ionic components of the radioactive isotope migrate into the molecular structure of the medical device.
Abstract: This invention involves radioactive medical devices for inhibiting an undesirable hyperplastic response in biological tissue, and a method for making the radioactive medical devices. In a first preferred embodiment, a medical device for inhibiting a hyperplastic response in biological tissue generally comprises polymeric hydrocarbon molecules forming the medical device and a salt or an acid of a radioactive isotope occluded within the polymeric hydrocarbon molecules. In a second preferred embodiment, the medical device comprises a thrombogenic sponge having a radioisotope trapped within the structure of the sponge.
Abstract: In order to produce (cigarette) packs with an (inner) wrapper made of heat-sealable sheet material and with folding tabs which are connected to one another by sealing, first of all a cigarette group (11) is enclosed by a wrapper blank and. following completion of the necessary folding operations, is fed to a sealing turret (48). In the region of the latter, folding tabs on sideways directed side walls and on radially outwardly directed end walls of the folded wrapper are sealed.

Abstract: A signal detector is provided in which complex samples of a received signal are multiplied by data representative of a hypothesis, and the resulting product data is coherently integrated over a desired duration to provide correlation data representative of the level of correlation between the hypothesis and the signal. In one embodiment, the signal detector is part of a GPS receiver.
Abstract: The projection moiré and temperature controlled chamber system houses a workpiece in the chamber and subjects the workpiece to changing temperatures according to a predefined temperature/time profile. As the workpiece is subjected to changing temperatures, a projection moiré system projects a plurality of moiré fringe patterns onto the workpiece, and a camera detects thermally induced warpage in the workpiece. The detection of thermally induced warpage, indicated by changes in the projected fringe moiré patterns on the workpiece, is analyzed by a processing unit. The temperature controlled chamber includes a plurality of heating sources, at least one cooling source, temperature probes and an adjustable support frame. Output temperature of the heating/cooling sources may be variable. The position of the support frame is adjustable and controlled by the processor in a manner such that a reference point associated with the workpiece or the frame is held in a stationery manner.

Abstract: A high efficiency, multiple power output power amplifier uses a pair of amplifiers having similar characteristics coupled to a pair of radio frequency RF couplers. When both amplifiers are operating, the power output is the sum of the outputs of the two amplifiers. When lower power operation is desired, one of the amplifiers is turned off and a high impedance is presented to the isolated port of the output RF coupler, thereby ensuring that all of the power output of the remaining power amplifier is available for output.
