  • Patent number: 6678513
Abstract: A non-linear transistor circuit uses separate signal biasing and DC biasing to improve the power efficiency while preventing thermal runaway. An improved amplifier using this circuit has a DC bias voltage supply. Using separate biasing of the DC supply voltage and the signal allows a large value resistance for the DC bias network to prevent thermal runaway and a small value resistance for the signal biasing network to improve the circuit's efficiency. A point of thermal equilibrium is reached when the voltage drop across the DC bias resistance sufficiently reduces the voltage between the transistor's base and emitter, VBE, the base current, the collector current, and the junction temperature, resulting in thermal equilibrium.

  • Patent number: 6668498
Abstract: A guyed tower is used to support wireless communication equipment and/or other types of loads. The guyed tower is fixedly attached to a foundation, and a pole tower is erected within a middle region of the guyed tower. This pole tower is fixedly attached both to the foundation and to the guyed tower. Bending moments are transferred from the guyed tower to the pole tower via the collar that is disposed about the guyed tower. Thus, the presence of the pole tower within the middle region of the guyed tower increases the load capacity and stability of the guyed tower.

  • Patent number: 6627808
Abstract: An apparatus and method for modeling an acoustic sound in an electric stringed musical instrument is provided. A preferred embodiment, among others, includes a bridge sensor configured to sensing string vibrations at the bridge of the instrument so that a bridge signal is generated in accordance with the vibrating strings. A body sensor, which may be positioned at different points on or within the body of the instrument, senses the resonance of the string vibrations. The body sensor generates a body resonance signal in accordance with the sensed resonance. An amplification circuit amplifies the body resonance signal when the amplitude of bridge signal exceeds a first predetermined level. In addition, a second amplification circuit amplifies the bridge signal. A summing circuit adds the amplified body resonance signal with the amplified bridge signal to produce an output signal that, when replicated in sound, models the sound of an acoustic instrument.

  • Patent number: 6564166
Abstract: The projection moiré and temperature controlled chamber system houses a workpiece in the chamber and subjects the workpiece to changing temperatures according to a predefined temperature/time profile. As the workpiece is subjected to changing temperatures, a projection moiré system projects a plurality of moiré fringe patterns onto the workpiece, and a camera detects thermally induced warpage in the workpiece. The temperature controlled chamber includes a plurality of heating sources, at least one cooling source, temperature probes and an adjustable support frame. Output temperature of the heating/cooling sources may be variable. The position of the support frame is adjustable and controlled by the processor in a manner such that a reference point associated with the workpiece or the frame is held in a stationery manner.

  • Patent number: 6496061
Abstract: A high efficiency, multiple power output power amplifier uses a pair of amplifiers having similar characteristics coupled to a pair of radio frequency RF couplers. When both amplifiers are operating, the power output is the sum of the outputs of the two amplifiers. When lower power operation is desired, one of the amplifiers is turned off and a high impedance is presented to the isolated port of the output RF coupler, thereby ensuring that all of the power output of the remaining power amplifier is available for output.
