  • Patent number: 6363854
Abstract: A mine has the ability to change from an armed state to a safe state without touching of the mine. The mine includes a case and an explosive charge in the case. Also included is a detonator located adjacent to the explosive charge. The firing of the detonator can set off an explosive chain for exploding the explosive charge. A movable firing pin in the case can strike and fire the detonator in response to pressure directed toward the case. The mine also includes a blocking member adapted to move from a retracted position to a blocking position between the detonator and the firing pin in order to prevent firing of the detonator by the firing pin. Also included is a driver for moving the blocking member from the retracted position to the blocking position without manual touching of the case.

  • Patent number: 6306067
Abstract: An exercise apparatus may be built into a couch or other seating assembly. The seating assembly may have a pair of side structures and a seating area between the side structures. The seating assembly may be a couch having a rear face, a pair of arms and a seating area between the arms sized to seat at least two people. A case is mounted alongside one of the side structures of the seating assembly. A cable is routed through the seat assembly to the case. This cable has one end routed to emerge through the seat assembly for pulling exercises. An adjustable weight is mounted in the case and coupled to the cable. The weight can be lifted in response to pulling of the cable. The adjustable weight is accessible in a region that is spaced from the rear face of the couch to avoid any need for clearance behind the couch in order to gain access to the adjustable weight.

  • Patent number: 6260787
Abstract: A rewinder for rewinding a web into one or more rolls on separate cores, includes at least one rewinding mandrel having a distal end. The rewinder also has a supply device for supplying the web to the rewinding mandrel, and a drive device. The drive device can (a) rotate the rewinding mandrel in order to wind at least a portion of the web onto the rewinding mandrel, and (b) axially retract the mandrel to unload the portion of the web wound on the mandrel. Also included is a holder for holding the one or more rolls. The rewinder also has a lifter for (a) raising the holder to support the portion of the web wound on the mandrel, and (b) lowering the holder. This rewinding mandrel is rotated in order to wind at least a portion of the web onto the rewinding mandrel. The holder is then raised to support the portion of the web wound on the mandrel. Next, the mandrel is axially retracted to unload the portion of the web wound on the mandrel, before lowering the holder.

  • Patent number: 6207909
Abstract: A latching handle mechanism can secure a module containing a circuit interrupter. The mechanism has a lever mounted at a handle frame to rotate between a secured position and a released position for securing and releasing the module at a structure. Also includes is a shuttle plate that is mounted at the handle frame and adapted to connect mechanically to the circuit interrupter. The shuttle plate is mounted to reciprocate between an engaged and disengaged position in order to operate the circuit interrupter. The shuttle plate is also manually reciprocatable to operate the circuit interrupter, when the lever is in the secured position. The lever is operable in the released position to restrain and prevent manual reciprocation of the shuttle plate in order to prevent manual operation of the circuit interrupter.

  • Patent number: 6164786
Abstract: An array of concentrators of electromagnetic radiation (i.e., visible light, radio waves, etc.) employing one or more concentrating devices. Each concentrating device includes: a concentrator system for concentrating the incident electromagnetic radiation impinging thereon; a collimator system disposed in the path of electromagnetic radiation from the concentrator system for producing a beam of electromagnetic radiation; and a redirecting system. Each concentrating device has one or more of its elements staggered such that the beams from the array of concentrating devices result in a stacked or bundled plurality of beams. This bundle of beams is then concentrated again, recollimated and redirected to join with other similarly concentrated beams. This arraying can be repeated again and again, producing stronger and stronger beams or electromagnetic radiation, if desired.

  • Patent number: 6088752
Abstract: A docking system can give a portable computer access over a first bus in the portable computer to a second bus in a docking station. The first bus and the second bus are each adapted to separately connect to respective ones of a plurality of bus-compatible devices. The docking system has a serial link cooperating with a first and a second interface to act as a single bridge. The first interface is coupled between the first bus and the link. The second interface is coupled between the second bus and the link. The first interface and the second interface are operable to (a) send bus-related information through the link in a format different from that of the first bus and the second bus, and (b) allow the portable computer, communicating through the first bus, to individually address one or more of the bus-compatible devices on the second bus using on the first bus substantially the same type of addressing as is used to access devices on the first bus.
