A via is formed within the semiconductor body and is substantially perpendicular to the first surface and the second surface. As the optical array including the fluid lens is integrated using a diode laser as a laser light source, the laser doppler velocity system can be made in small-size. Also, as the laser doppler velocity system is inserted into the surface of the structure, it can be used as a surface flow field measurement sensor.

Also, the apparatus includes a timing circuit with an input coupled to the output of the comparator and an input coupled to the input signal. The timing circuit also has an output to supply the input pulse signal. The timing circuit measures a delay from a change in the input signal to a change in the output of the comparator.
