Abstract: Getter multilayer structures are disclosed, embodiments of which include at least a layer of a non-evaporable getter alloy having a low activation temperature over a layer of a different non-evaporable getter material having high specific surface area, both preferably obtained by cathodic deposition. The multilayer NEG structures exhibit better gas sorbing characteristics and lower activation temperature lower than those of deposits made up of a single material. A process for manufacturing such structures includes depositing a first, high surface area NEG film on a support, and then depositing a thin over layer of low activation NEG film.

Abstract: A system and method are provided for accelerating data transfer between networked databases. First provided are a plurality of databases coupled by a network. At least one laser unit is coupled to each database. In operation, such laser units are capable of communicating data between the databases via free space by way of a laser beam. This allows data communication at a rate faster than that which the network is capable.
Abstract: A networked object delivery system for a personal computing device includes a network, a personal computing device at least part time coupled to the network, and a service agent server at least part time coupled to the network. The personal computing device is preferably a PDA or the like, but can also include personal computers, laptop computers, notebook computers, etc. The personal computing device locally operates on a requested document with at least one downloaded application module from the network. The service agent server will download a requested document and at least one application module to the personal computing device over the network in response to a request for the document and in response to a desired action to be performed on that document.
Abstract: In an embodiment, set forth by way of example and not limitation, a Bragg mirror includes a first bi-layer of a first thickness and a second bi-layer of a second thickness which is different from the first thickness. In this exemplary embodiment, the first bi-layer consists essentially of a first high impedance layer and a first low impedance layer, and the second bi-layer of a second thickness which is different from the first thickness, the second bi-layer consisting essentially of a second high impedance layer and a second low impedance layer. Preferably, the first bi-layer is configured to substantially reflect a first wavelength and the second bi-layer is configured to substantially reflect a second wavelength different from the first wavelength.
Abstract: A sheet-holding-down member provided in a sheet feeding section of a printing press has a sheet-holding-down member that has a sheet-holding-down part that holds down from above an oncoming sheet to prevent a lateral edge of the sheet from being curled upward when the sheet abuts a lateral-edge abutment member. The sheet-holding-down member is pivotally movable about a roller support shaft so as to allow the sheet-holding-down part to be movable close to and away from an upper surface of a feeder board, on which the sheet is placed. An adjustment screw has a lower end that limits movement of the sheet-holding-down member so as to prevent the same from moving close to the upper surface of the feeder board as passing a predetermined height limit. The sheet-holding down member is urged downward by a coil spring.
Abstract: In example embodiments, a method, system and article for decompressing compressed video data in a processor having at least two pipelines, including obtaining a plurality of raw data bits from a compressed video data stream; extracting one or more components from the plurality of raw data bits by analyzing the plurality of raw data bits in a look-up table; and directing the components of the compressed video data into one of the pipelines for processing purposes based on the analysis. In another example embodiment an apparatus includes a microprocessor; memory; a communication adapter, capable of transmitting and receiving data over a communication network; a microphone, speaker, and a display device; and logic encoded in a tangible medium which when executed is operable to decompress compressed video data received from the communication network utilizing a look-up table.
Abstract: The specification teaches a system for manufacturing microelectronic, microoptoelectronic or micromechanical devices (microdevices) in which a contaminant absorption layer improves the life and operation of the microdevice. In an embodiment, a system for manufacturing the devices includes efficiently integrating a getter material in multiple microdevices.
Abstract: Disclosed is a mixed-type adder with optimized design costs. The mixed-type adder includes I sub adders, (where, I is a positive number larger than 1). An overall bit width of the mixed-type adder is divided into I bit groups which are respectively allocated to the I sub adders. The I sub adders have different carry propagation schemes and are connected in series through a carry signal.

Abstract: A method for providing secure transactions generates a Secure Card Number (“SCN”) for a first entity that is transferred with a first entity identifier to a second entity and then to a money source that verifies that the transaction is valid by use of the first entity identifier and the SCN. The SCN includes a Transaction Information Block (“TIB”), a Counter Block, and an encrypted Personal Identification Number (“PIN”) Block. The SCN is transferred to the money source in an account number or a non-account data field. The money source can use the TIB to determine whether the SCN should be used once or multiple times or to identify one of several physical devices, all of which are issued to the first entity, used to generate the SCN. The money source validates the SCN by duplicating the encryption process used to create an encrypted PIN Block and comparing the result to the encrypted PIN Block received with the transaction.
Abstract: A technique for controlling an atmosphere within an enclosure involves providing a getter within the atmosphere of the enclosure. An LED manufactured according to the technique may include a getter within an enclosed volume of the LED device.
Abstract: A fluid sealing mechanism for sealing fluid being fed into a fluid pressure pocket formed between sliding surfaces which are formed on the opposing surfaces of an article being supported and a support for supporting the article, wherein a ring groove being fitted with a resilient ring for sealing fluid is made in the sliding surface of the support. Under a state where a regulation ring for preventing the resilient ring from jumping out of the ring groove is fitted over the re-silient ring, the regulation ring is fitted in the ring groove along with the resilient ring. When the fluid fed into the fluid pressure pocket reaches a specified pressure, the regulation ring comes into pressure contact with the sliding surface of the support along with the resilient ring, thus preventing the resilient ring from jumping out.
