Abstract: The present disclosure is directed, in general, to an optical reading system, a universal testing cartridge, and a method of coupling optical reading systems. In a particular illustrative embodiment, the optical reading system includes a universal test cartridge receptor, test format determination logic, test criteria determination logic, and an optical reader module. The universal test cartridge receptor is responsive to a universal test cartridge having a test strip inserted therein. The test format determination logic determines an optical test format of the test strip. The test criteria determination logic determines an optical test criteria based upon the optical test format. The optical reader module is configured to capture an optical test image of the test strip.

Abstract: A digital subscriber line (DSL) induction-neutralizing transformer (INT) (28) for use in a DSL INT network (10) is provided. The DSL INT (28) includes a core (72) and a coil (74) that is electrically coupled to and wound around the core (72). The coil (74) includes approximately 100-200 feet of approximately 24-gauge wire. The core (72) and coil (74) add longitudinal inductance to a telecommunication line and reduce induced voltage levels at a non-digital subscriber line frequency on the telecommunication line. The DSL INT network (10), containing at least one DSL INT (28), and a method of routing DSL communication signals within the DSL INT network (10), are also provided.

Abstract: A system and method for processing a plurality of call detail records (CDRs) each indicative of a call transaction on a telecommunications network. The method includes receiving the plurality of CDRs at a first controller, wherein each of the CDRs include a data structure including a plurality of fields each containing at least one character. The method then selects a first sorting field from the plurality of fields and groups the plurality of CDRs as a function of data within the first sorting field. In one embodiment, the first sorting field is used to group the CDRs according to different carriers. The method then analyzes at least one additional sorting field within each of the CDRs which were previously grouped according to the first sorting field. A report is then generated for each of the grouped CDRs as a function of data within the additional sorting field. In this way, periodic, customized reports can be generated from information contained with CDRs with user-selectable sorting or analysis fields.

Abstract: A system and method for extending a user's communications services to an airplane seat telephone terminal proximate the user while the user is aboard an airplane is provided. The system includes a Subscriber Interface (SI) for providing a Subscriber Identity Record (SIR) including the user's flight data and a Universal Communications Address (UCA), and a Subscriber Location Register (SLR) adapted to receive the subscriber identity record from the subscriber interface and communicate with a home location register associated with the user to provide a subscriber location in response to a telephone call placed to the user's Universal Communications Address. The Universal Communications Address can be a Mobile Station ISDN number associated with a wireless user terminal or an ISDN/PSTN number associated with a wireline telephone of said user.

Abstract: A Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) feature server provides a remote worker feature over a VoIP platform of an IP network. The remote worker feature facilitates an individual, who is assigned a telephone number at his/her home PBX, to receive telephone service from a remote PBX using the same telephone number.

Abstract: A system and method are disclosed for processing a call by receiving caller input in a speech format and utilizing phonemes to convert the speech input into word strings. The word strings are then converted into at least one object and at least one action. A synonym table is utilized to determine actions and objects. Objects generally represent nouns and adjective-noun combinations while actions generally represent verbs and adverb-verb combinations. The synonym table stores natural language phrases and their relationship with actions and objects. The actions and objects are utilized to determine a routing destination utilizing a routing table. The call is routed based on the routing table.

Abstract: In a particular embodiment, the disclosure is directed to a system for identifying redirected calls that includes a service switch point and a service control point. The service switch point is coupled to a communications network. The service switch point is configured to receive a call termination request that indicates call redirection. The service control point is coupled to the service switch point and is configured to direct the service switch point to utilize a distinctive ring in response to receiving the call termination request.

Abstract: A digital media player. The digital media player includes storage to store media content and a user interface to provide information to a user. The information includes at least one task associated with the media content. The media player also includes a control to allow the user to select at least one task and a processor to perform a task selected by the user.

Abstract: In an embodiment, a communication node coupled to a first data network and a second data network is disclosed. The first data network is a wide area data network. The communication node includes a first data interface to the first data network, a second data interface to the second data network, a data processor responsive to the first data interface and to the second data interface, and an encryption module coupled to the data processor. The first data interface is a telephony type interface and the second data interface is a packet data interface. The data processor receives input traffic data carried over the first data interface and generates management performance data based on measurements with respect to the input traffic data. The encryption module receives the management performance data to produce encrypted management performance data to be communicated to the second data network via the second data interface.

Abstract: A message composed by a user using a computer is stored in a computer-readable medium. The message is associated with a distribution list of one or more intended recipients of the message, and an identifier to trigger sending of the message to the one or more intended recipients on the distribution list. An SMS message is received in an inbox of the computer. The SMS message is composed using an SMS-capable wireless device, and has a user-entered header. The user-entered header matching the identifier triggers sending of the message to the one or more intended recipients on the distribution list.

Abstract: The present disclosure is generally directed to a system and method of measuring transport utilization of data that is to be multiplexed and transmitted over a digital transport facility. In a particular embodiment the method includes receiving at least one frame of a data channel at a time division multiplexing device, padding an unused portion of the frame with a number of stuff bits, determining a user traffic utilization measurement based on the number of stuff bits and based on the size of the data payload, and reporting the traffic utilization measurement. In this embodiment, the frame has a fixed data payload.

Abstract: A system and method for multi-modal monitoring of a network are disclosed. In one embodiment of a system incorporating teachings of the present disclosure, a network management engine may be capable of issuing a request to a monitored network device and to receive network information from the monitored network device. In some embodiments, a multi-modal administration engine may allow a calling party to interact with the network management engine. A caller response unit associated with the multi-modal administration engine, may be capable of receiving a user input from the calling party and converting the user input into a request for network information. In preferred embodiments, a format converter associated with the multi-modal administration engine may translate at least a portion of a first signal representing network information into a second signal representing an audible sound.

Abstract: A system and method of providing a voltage to a non-volatile memory. The system includes an output pin to provide an output voltage to a non-volatile memory and includes a memory to store a table. The table includes a plurality of operating voltage levels. The system further includes a voltage mode module to apply a first voltage at a first of the plurality of operating voltage levels at the output pin prior to a read operation on the non-volatile memory. The voltage mode module applies a second voltage at a second of the plurality of voltage levels at the output pin in response to a read operation that returns a failure condition.

Abstract: In a particular embodiment, a method of assigning identifications for unified messaging system subscribers is provided. The method includes assigning a unique temporary identity to a subscriber of a unified messaging service and upon the subscriber's first access to the unified messaging service, receiving a second identity selected by the subscriber.

Abstract: A request is received from a parent or guardian of a minor to sign up for an Instant Messaging (IM) service on behalf of the minor. The parent or guardian creates a profile comprising one or more control policies for usage of the IM service by the minor using a Web-based profile administrator interface. Thereafter, a request is received by an IM server from the minor to log on to the IM service using a client device. The IM server communicates information from the profile to the client device to modify the functionality of the client device to comply with at least one policy in the profile.

Abstract: A ranked list of search results is received from a search engine based on a search query. A relevance value of a particular search result in the ranked list is estimated based on its rank and actual relevance values and ranks of at least two others of the search results.

Abstract: An apparatus and method to synchronize devices in a network to a sub-millisecond timing accuracy. In a first embodiment, the transmission of data is synchronized between a first source device and destination devices communicatively coupled to a network. In a second embodiment, data is deterministically transmitted between a first source device and destination devices communicatively coupled to a network. In a third embodiment, a deterministic network synchronizes the transmission of data between a first source device and destination devices coupled to a network.

Abstract: An allocation component allocates its received calls among a plurality of telephony systems including a first telephony system and a second telephony system. A first routing protocol (RP) component distributes those of the calls allocated to the first telephony system among a first plurality of call center sites. A second RP component distributes those of the calls allocated to the second telephony system among a second plurality of call center sites. A load-balancing Interactive Voice Response (IVR) system dynamically distributes its received calls between the plurality of telephony systems based on agent availability data associated with the first and second plurality of call center sites and the second plurality of call center sites. A primary IVR receives a plurality of calls and routes a first percentage thereof to the allocation component and a second percentage thereof to the load-balancing IVR system.

Abstract: A cross-connect switch (16) for implementing local number portability between a current local service provider originating switch (14) and a desired local service provider ported switch (18). The cross-connect switch (16) is connected in a line associated with a subscriber's directory number between the originating switch (14) and a main distribution frame (12) to establish a first active communication channel. The cross-connect switch (16) is also connected in-line between the ported switch (18) and the main distribution frame (12) to establish a second inactive communication channel. The cross-connect switch (16) is signaled to automatically deactivate the first communication channel and activate the second communication channel thereby routing communications associated with said subscriber's directory number to the ported switch (18).

Abstract: A delay lock loop for use in meeting SDRAM timing requirements, wherein a timing relationship between data generated by a computer chip and a clock in said DRAM is fully programmable, and wherein said delay lock loop is digitally implemented. The delay lock loop includes a first delay chain to measure a number of delay taps in a single clock cycle of the clock of the SDRAM and a second delay chain to delay the clock of the SDRAM. The second delay chain is matched to the first delay chain.
