  • Patent number: 7864581
Abstract: A NAND flash memory device is recovered by applying a predetermined bias to a drain or a source. A negative bias is applied to a cell gate so that electrons are injected into a floating gate of a cell. • Patent number: 7864185
Abstract: A graphics processing unit can queue a large number of texture requests to balance out the variability of texture requests without the need for a large texture request buffer. A dedicated texture request buffer queues the relatively small texture commands and parameters. Additionally, for each queued texture command, an associated set of texture arguments, which are typically much larger than the texture command, are stored in a general purpose register. The texture unit retrieves texture commands from the texture request buffer and then fetches the associated texture arguments from the appropriate general purpose register. The texture arguments may be stored in the general purpose register designated as the destination of the final texture value computed by the texture unit. Because the destination register must be allocated for the final texture value as texture commands are queued, storing the texture arguments in this register does not consume any additional registers.

  • Patent number: 7865124
Abstract: Techniques for scanning and generating fingerprints for articles prior to the use of the articles. The fingerprinting of the articles is performed such that it is decoupled from the process of using the articles. As a result, the fingerprinting process does not act as a bottleneck to the use of the articles. In one embodiment, a printer is provided that is configured to generate fingerprints for paper sheets loaded into the printer prior to the paper sheets being available for printing. The pre-fingerprinted sheets are then made available for printing. In this manner, the process of fingerprinting of the paper sheets is decoupled from the printing operations performed by the printer. As a result, the fingerprinting process does not act as a bottleneck to the printing process.

  • Patent number: 7865702
Abstract: Thread switching prevents pipeline stalls when executing multiple threads. An analysis of a first thread identifies instructions capable of causing pipeline stalls. If pipeline stalls from the identified instructions are likely, thread switching instructions are added to the first thread in place of the identified instructions. Thread switching instructions direct a microprocessor to suspend executing the thread and begin executing a second thread. Thread switching instructions can be added to the second thread to enable the resumption of the first thread at the location specified by the identified instruction. The thread switching instructions are configured to avoid pipeline stalls when switching threads. Thread switching instructions can store and retrieve thread-specific information upon the suspension and resumption of threads. Thread switching instructions can schedule the execution of two or more threads in accordance with load balancing schemes.

  • Patent number: 7865480
Abstract: A metadata validation process that allows for deferring object model validation until after the objects are created. The process also allows for multi-threaded processing of the validation rules, thus increasing overall performance. Validation is performed by enforcing a series of validation rules on an appropriate subject. Rules are specified according to the subject that they are validating (i.e., attribute level, association level, object level or collection level). The metadata driven validation process implements several validation types on different validation units. Correctness validation rule types ensure that a validation unit satisfies all semantic rules defined for it. Completeness validation rule types ensure that a validation unit contains all the necessary data and is ready for further use. At design time, only correctness type validation is performed. Thus, the present invention advantageously allows for incomplete objects to be created at design time.

  • Patent number: 7865894
Abstract: Embodiments of the present invention facilitate distributing processing tasks within a processor. In one embodiment, processing clusters keep track of resource requirements. If sufficient resources are available within a particular processing cluster, the available processing cluster asserts a ready signal to a dispatch unit. The dispatch unit is configured to pass a processing task (such as a cooperative thread array or CTA) to an available processing cluster that asserted a ready signal. In another embodiment, a processing task is passed around a ring of processing clusters until a processing cluster with sufficient resources available accepts the processing task.

  • Patent number: 7864181
Abstract: A method for simulating objects includes receiving a target shape associated with a simulated object. A difference is determined between the target shape and a measured shape associated with the simulated object. One or more forces are generated to act on the simulated object to reduce the difference between the target shape and the measured shape. The target shape may be updated when the difference between the target shape and the measured shape exceeds a predetermined tolerance. Updating the target shape may include reducing the target shape to move the target shape closer to the measured shape.

  • Patent number: 7864408
Abstract: Beam deflection devices and methods using piezoelectric tube resonance. A beam deflection device may include a laser that produces a beam of light. The beam of light may then be directed through a piezoelectric tube that includes a light guide and one or more piezoelectric elements. The device may also have an optical tip that extends axially from the end of the piezoelectric tube. The piezoelectric tube is coupled with the light source, such that the beam of light is conducted through the light guide and optionally the optical tip. A controller may be communicatively coupled with the light source and the piezoelectric tube. The controller may include instructions to activate the piezoelectric tube at a resonant frequency of the piezoelectric tube, the light guide, and/or the optical tip. The controller may include instructions to activate one or more of the piezoelectric elements at a different power level.

  • Patent number: 7856873
Abstract: The apparatus is suited to reduce the friction between two bodies (1, 2) moving relative to each other. The two bodies (1, 2), which move relative to each other, can contact each other constantly or occasionally or have a small distance from one another of, for example, up to one millimeter. The distance can vary. With the relative movement of both bodies (1, 2), for example, the one body can be a sensor (1) which is firmly installed, and the second body can be a foil (2), which moves with considerably constant speed. The device has a vibration device (3, 4, 5, 6) for vibrating at least one of the bodies (1, 2). The vibration movements of the vibrated bodies can have any pattern.
