Abstract: A method and system for generating a ring map for optical network applications. The method includes sending a first discovery message to a first node through a portion of an optical network. The first node corresponds to a first node identification and a first predetermined identification. The first discovery message includes at least a source node identification associated with a source node, a source predetermined identification associated with the source node, and a first ring connectivity map. Additionally, the method includes if the source node identification and the first node identification are different, updating the first ring connectivity map. Also, the method includes if the source node identification and the first node identification are identical and if the source predetermined identification and the first predetermined identification are different sending a first alarm message.

  • Patent number: 7219319
Abstract: A programmable finite state machine (FSM) includes, in part, first and second memories, and a selection circuit coupled to each of the memories. Upon receiving a (k+m)-bit word representative of the k-bit input symbol and the m-bit current state, the first memory supplies one ore more matching transition rules stored therein. The selection circuit selects the most specific of the supplied rules. The transition rules are stored in the first memory in a ranking order of generality. The second memory receives the selected transition rule and supplies the next state of the FSM. The first memory may be a ternary content addressable memory and the second memory may be a static random access memory. The contents of both the content addressable memory and the static random memory is determined by an algorithm which minimizes the number of terms required to represent the next-state transition functions.

  • Patent number: 7219092
Abstract: The identification information about unnecessary files is registered to generate an unnecessary-file database. The identification information about files stored on a plurality of storage devices connected to a host computer is acquired to decide with the unnecessary-file database whether the identification information about files conforms to unnecessary-file conditions. Files nonconforming to unnecessary-file conditions are checked to determine whether they are already migrated to a different storage device. If all the files stored on a storage device conform to the unnecessary-file conditions or are already migrated to a different storage device, the identification information about the former storage device is displayed to indicate that the storage device can be removed.

  • Patent number: 7217321
Abstract: The present invention relates to microfluidic devices and methods facilitating the growth and analysis of crystallized materials such as proteins. In accordance with one embodiment, a crystal growth architecture is separated by a permeable membrane from an adjacent well having a much larger volume. The well may be configured to contain a fluid having an identity and concentration similar to the solvent and crystallizing agent employed in crystal growth, with diffusion across the membrane stabilizing that process. Alternatively, the well may be configured to contain a fluid having an identity calculated to affect the crystallization process. In accordance with the still other embodiment, the well may be configured to contain a material such as a cryo-protectant, which is useful in protecting the crystalline material once formed.

  • Patent number: 7217785
Abstract: The term “homology” or “homologous” means an amino acid similarity measured by the program, BLAST (Altschul et al (1997), “Gapped BLAST and PSI-BLAST: a new generation of protein database search programs”, Nucleic Acids Res. 25:33 89–3402), and expressed as —(% identity n/n). In measuring homology between a peptide and a protein of greater size, homology is measured only in the corresponding region; that is, the protein is regarded as only having the same general length as the peptide, allowing for gaps and insertions.

  • Patent number: 7217971
Abstract: Diffusion layers 2–5 are formed on a silicon substrate 1, and gate dielectric films 6, 7 and gate electrodes 8, 9 are formed on these diffusion layers 2–5 so as to be MOS transistors. Zirconium oxide or hafnium oxide is used as a major component of gate dielectric films 6, 7. Gate dielectric films 6, 7 are formed, for example, by CVD. As substrate 1, there is used one of which the surface is (111) crystal face so as to prevent diffusion of oxygen into silicon substrate 1 or gate electrodes 8, 9. In case of using a substrate of which the surface is (111) crystal face, diffusion coefficient of oxygen is less than 1/100 of the case in which a silicon substrate of which the surface is (001) crystal face is used, and oxygen diffusion is controlled. Thus, oxygen diffusion is controlled, generation of leakage current is prevented and properties are improved. There is realized a semiconductor device having high reliability and capable of preventing deterioration of characteristics concomitant to miniaturization.

  • Patent number: 7216474
Abstract: An air inlet duct for an air-breathing combined-cycle aircraft engines is internally divided into separate channels for low-speed and high-speed components of the engine, and contains one or more movable panels that are fully contained within the duct and pivotal between an open position in which incoming air is directed to both channels and a closed position in which all incoming air is directed to the channel leading to the high-speed engine. This integrated duct utilizes all incoming air at all stages of flight with no change in either the geometry of the air capture portion of the engine or the engine itself, and no exposure of movable leading edges. The result is a minimum of shock waves and a high degree of efficiency in operation of the engine.

  • Patent number: 7218810
Abstract: Biochemical assays that are performed in cuvettes and in the wells of multi-well plates and that utilize excitation and light emission as labels for detection are enhanced by an illumination and detection system that supplies excitation light through an optical fiber that transmits excitation light from an excitation light source to the cuvette or well. Emission light produced by the excitation is then collected by a collimating lens and converted to a signal that is compiled by conventional software for analysis. The optical fiber and collimating lens can either be on the same side of the receptacle (generally the open side) or on opposite sides, i.e., one above and the other below.

  • Patent number: 7219208
Abstract: The present invention allows a pair to be formed between a plurality of discrete volumes and the progress thereof to be managed by means of a remote operation from a management server. Management server 10 instructs respective host computers 20, 30 to generate configuration files 23, 33. Next, management server 10 instructs host computers 20, 30 to start up HORCM (Hitachi Remote Copy Module) instances 24, 34. The generation of the configuration files and the startup of the HORCM instances can be separated. In one mode, configuration files are generated and the HORCM instances are started up, while, in another mode, only configuration files are generated. In yet another mode, the HORCM instances are started up when predetermined conditions are fulfilled. A more flexible operation can thus be performed.
