Patent number: 4522360Abstract: An airfoil for transonic speeds includes a porous top surface extending from a location about 50 to 60% of the chord length from a leading edge of the airfoil to a location about 80 to 90% of the chord length from the leading edge. A cavity is defined under the porous surface in the airfoil which has a depth of from 0.05 to 0.2% of the chord length. The porosity of the porous surface is chosen to be from 1 to 3% of the total airfoil surface and may be variable. The presence of the porous surface and cavity decrease airfoil drag at transonic speeds by providing a pathway between a high pressure area downstream of a shock wave formed on the airfoil at transonic speeds to a low pressure area within a bubble on the airfoil upstream of the shock wave.Type: GrantFiled: April 27, 1983Date of Patent: June 11, 1985Assignee: Rensselaer Polytechnic InstituteInventors: Richard Barnwell, Dennis Bushnell, Henry T. Patent number: 4522224Abstract: The slanted closing rim of a valve plate includes a cylindrical portion at the rear side, having a diameter D1 which corresponds to the width of the plate and slightly exceeds the diameter D3 of the passage throat. A groove in the casing guides the narrow sides of the valve plate and accomodates a seal strip. The grooves partly closed at the front side by a guide strip which in the bottom zone of the passage throat is a semicircularly extending strip. The inside diameter D4 of this cylindrical strip approximately corresponds to that of the valve plate and its axis a extends at a level which is higher by half the difference between diameters D1 and D3 than that of the axis b of the throat passage. A slanted closing rim of the valve plate is provided with shear arcs on its frontal points on each of the side edges. The two shear arcs form a kind of a plowshare deflecting the medium from the seal.Type: GrantFiled: June 19, 1984Date of Patent: June 11, 1985Assignee: Sistag, Maschinenfabrik Sidler Stalder AGInventors: Hans Stalder, Hans Sidler

Patent number: 4522213Abstract: In medical apparatus important parameters are monitored by special systems. In case of irregularities, signaling urging remedy occurs. The signal is to be limited to the persons monitoring the apparatus to the extent possible and should not disturb persons not involved or present in the same room, from any delicate work they may be doing. Freedom of movement of the monitoring persons is to be preserved. To accelerate corrective measures, the signal gives them information which is easy to understand about the type of disorder. For this purpose the signal transmitters for the monitored limit values are connected to a signal converter, through which a describing text in intelligible language is assigned to each signal case. These announcements are conveyed to the monitoring persons through an output means movable with them and limited to their area, such as single earphones. The earphone is connected to the signal converter through a wireless or wire-bound movable connection.Type: GrantFiled: January 4, 1984Date of Patent: June 11, 1985Assignee: Dragerwerk AktiengesellschaftInventors: Carl F. Patent number: 4519121Abstract: A web punched by a fin press and continuously fed therefrom is intermittently fed by increments equal to a desired number of tiers of punched holes in the web into a space below a pressure plate. The web is then held under suction by the pressure plate and cut off by a cutter into a plate fin. The pressure plate with the cut-off plate fin held thereby is horizontally fed along an interval in the direction in which the web is fed. The plate fin then is released from the pressure plate so as to drop onto a mobile carriage below the pressure plate until hairpin pipes carried by the mobile carriage in upstanding disposition are inserted through the punched holes in the plate fin. The pressure plate moves back to its original position. The above cycle of operation is repeated until a prescribed number of plate fins are fitted over the hairpin pipes. Thereafter, the pressure plate is lowered to depress the plate fins for thereby stacking the plate fins on the hairpin pipes.Type: GrantFiled: October 28, 1983Date of Patent: May 28, 1985Assignee: Hidaka Seiki KKInventor: Tomoo Yokosawa

Patent number: 4519388Abstract: A respirator device particularly for use in association with a tube insertable into a person's trachea comprises a trachea tube having an inflatable cuff which seals the tube with the person's trachea. A line for ventilating gas extends into the tube and terminates in a jet nozzle directed to the trachea. The opposite end of the tube is provided with a connection to atmosphere which also makes it possible to provide a controlled vacuum pressure at this end particularly in the expiration phase. Control is effected between the ventilating gas and the vacuum for regulating the respiration. With the inventive method the vacuum is provided at the outer end of the trachea tube particularly during respiration and it is effected by directing a vacuum pressure gas supply connection through a Venturi connection to the tube which produces the vacuum in the tube and communicates the tube to atmosphere. This gas connection is controlled along with a ventilating pressure gas connection to provide the desired respiration.Type: GrantFiled: May 14, 1982Date of Patent: May 28, 1985Assignee: Dragerwerk A.G.Inventors: Erik Schwanbom, Horst Frankenberger, Marcel Baum
