  • Patent number: 5560279
Abstract: A combined sensing and barrier element is provided. This sensing element is most useful as a flexible diaphragm which is also described herein. The flexible diaphragm has a resilient elastomeric body and a sensing element having at least one conductive component and at least two nonconductive components such that the conductive component is positioned between the nonconductive components. A change in electrical resistance is recorded by an electrical monitoring device that is electrically connected to the conductive component. By observing changes in the resistance that deviate from a predetermined norm, significant wear of a diaphragm can be determined prior to its failure.

  • Patent number: 5554236
Abstract: An improved low noise electrical signal transmission cable is disclosed. The cable employs an insulative layer of expanded polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) which is bonded in fixed relative position with a surrounding shield layer through use of an adhesive, such as fluorinated ethylenepropylene (FEP) or perfluoroalkoxy polymer (PFA). The bonding process reduces the separation of layers which can sometimes occur with expanded PTFE insulative cables and avoids the generation of unwanted triboelectric signals that can result from such separation.

  • Patent number: 5525834
Abstract: An integrated circuit package for housing an integrated circuit (IC) chip and providing electrical connectivity of data signals and voltage signals between the IC chip and an electronic component includes a substrate, an IC chip affixed to the substrate and at least three conductive layers on the substrate. The three conductive layers include at least a first voltage layer adjacent to the substrate for providing a first reference voltage signal (i.e., ground) to the IC chip, a second voltage layer for providing a second reference voltage signal (i.e., power) to the IC chip, and a signal layer. To maximize speed and minimize complexing, all of the data signals to the IC chip are routed on the signal layer. The power and ground layers are closely coupled and separated by a dielectric layer having a relatively high dielectric constant for providing significant decoupling capacitance. A low dielectric layer is provided for separating the power layer from the signal layer.

  • Patent number: 5500038
Abstract: A compact sorbent filter for selectively sorbing contaminants and method of removing contamination from an enclosure with a filter is disclosed. The filter comprises a sorbent core including contaminant adsorbing material therein, an outer protective cover wrapped around the inner sorbent core so as to completely contain the sorbent core, with the exposed end(s) of the core being capped so as to encapsulate the sorbent core present within the filter while not limiting the amount of material contained therein. A sorbing filter is placed within an enclosure to remove gaseous contamination therein. The filter is particularly suitable for use in a computer disk drive or similar enclosure where out-gassing contamination may be a problem.

  • Patent number: 5486475
Abstract: A membrane module is provided which serves to remove gaseous substances from a gas stream and which consists of a plurality of plane membrane pockets consisting of a gas-permeable, liquidproof material. The pockets are arranged in parallel to each other and in parallel to the flow direction of the gas stream. The membrane pockets contain a liquid reaction mixture or a suspension of microorganisms which react with certain constituents of the gas stream which passes the pockets. An essential part of the pockets is a circumferential frame which is connected with both sides of the membrane material. The frame is provided with supply bore holes and drainage bore holes which are connected with the interior of the pocket. When the frames are stacked on each other, these bore holes are positioned on top of each other thus forming supply and drainage channels through which the reaction mixture or suspension in the rockets can be renewed and discharged.
