  • Patent number: 8352999
Abstract: A method of storing secret data in a shared computing environment includes defining secret data, such as a password and administration policies according to a schema of a directory server such as a LDAP server. The secret data and administration polices are centrally stored on the LDAP server. The secret data can be encrypted. Administration polices include authorization and authentication policies, and a security zone can be defined for a collection of entities with a common security characteristic, such as a common password. A security zone defines a group of users and the secret data that can be accessed by the group of users. Multiple security zones can be defined. The secret data can be accessed directly from the server of the directory service without accessing another server or data store assuming the administration policies are satisfied.

  • Patent number: 8348971
Abstract: Apparatus for sealing a puncture communicating with a blood vessel includes a bioabsorbable sealing member secured to one end of a filament or other retaining member. The sealing member is delivered through the puncture into the vessel, and retracted against the wall of the vessel to provide temporary hemostasis. The sealing member is rapidly absorbed after exposure within the vessel, e.g., to an aqueous or heated physiological environment (e.g., exposure to blood or body temperature), immediately or shortly after completing a medical procedure via the puncture, e.g., within the time period that the patient is ambulatory. Optionally, extravascular sealing material is delivered into the puncture proximal to the sealing member. The retaining member and/or extravascular material may be bioabsorbable, being absorbed at a slower rate than the sealing member. Alternatively, the filament is removed from the puncture after hemostasis is established.

  • Patent number: 8352101
Abstract: A system and method are disclosed for simultaneous attitude maneuver and momentum dumping. The attitude maneuver is performed using nominal wheel control to minimize propellant usage, while applying a momentum management command to the thruster control loop in order for the wheels to accomplish the desired spacecraft maneuver while simultaneously being reset to a de-saturated target state. The system and method involve a wheel system comprised of reaction wheels and/or a control moment gyroscope (CMG), at least one thruster, and control logic that is in communication with the wheel system and thruster(s). If a spacecraft maneuver is in progress, the control logic biases an error input signal to a thruster control loop to track the wheel maneuver to prevent unnecessary propellant consumption. The control logic is further operable to output thruster torque commands and wheel torque commands that accomplish the maneuver while achieving the desired final momentum target.

  • Patent number: 8348940
Abstract: Large tissue regions are treated using pairs of electrode arrays. The electrode arrays may be concave and disposed in tissue so that their concave portions are opposed to each other. Axial conductors may be provided extending from the arrays and toward each other in order to increase the heating of tissues lying along the axis between the deployed electrode arrays. By properly spacing the electrode arrays apart and selecting the diameters of the arrays, desired volumes of tissue may be treated, typically with a bipolar, radiofrequency current.

  • Patent number: 8343192
Abstract: Correction of a scoliotic curve in a spine comprises the steps of implanting an expanding rod isolated completely under the skin and attached to selected portions of the scoliotic curve of the spine at opposing ends of the rod; and producing a controlled force by means of expansion of the rod over at an extended time period under external control until a desire spinal curve is obtained. An incremental force is generated to stretch the scoliotic curve of the spine between the selected portions where attachment of the rod is defined. The controlled force is provided steadily for at least one month or alternatively 1-3 months. Multiple rods may be employed each associated with a different scoliotic curve of the spine or a different portion of the scoliotic curve.

  • Patent number: 8346635
Abstract: Identifying suspect electronic tax data of an electronic tax return prepared using a tax preparation program. A first field of the tax return is populated with first tax data. The program selects statistical data for another type of tax data based upon the first tax data. A second field is populated with second tax data, which is compared with selected statistical data to determine whether the second tax data satisfies pre-determined criteria relative to the selected statistical data, e.g., whether the second tax data is within a pre-determined range or standard deviation of a mean or average of statistical data. If the second tax data does not satisfy the criteria, e.g., is outside of the range or standard deviation, the program issues an alert to notify the preparer of the specific location of the suspect data. The alert may be issued in real time while the tax return is being prepared.

  • Patent number: 8341120
Abstract: Techniques for transferring objects between database systems. A transfer is controlled by a master table in the RDBMS that is performing the transfer operation. The master table specifies the kind of transfer operation to be performed, a set of objects to be transferred, operations to be performed on the objects as they are being transferred, and filters for selecting a subset of the objects. During execution of the transfer, the transfer mechanism maintains and updates state in the master table and thereby makes it possible for the entity that is doing the transfer to determine the current status of the transfer and to restart the transfer after it has been stopped. The entity that is performing the transfer may also detach from the transfer without stopping the transfer and later again attach to the transfer.

  • Patent number: 8341081
Abstract: Computer-implemented methods, articles of manufacture and systems for identifying an on-line bank account utilized for business purposes. A computer processor receives or determines a name of on-line bank account entered by an account holder. The account name is tokenized or parsed into name segments, which are analyzed using a first or local set of rules that is applied to each individual segment to tag or assign a score to each individual segment, and a second or global set of rules are applied to multiple name segments or groups of segments. Scores generated by application of the first and second rule sets are used to determine whether the customer uses the account identified by the account name for business purposes.
