  • Patent number: 8259282
Abstract: Electronic flat panel displays (FPDs) including liquid crystal displays (LCDs) may be resized to meet custom size requirements for applications in aerospace and elsewhere. During the resizing process, pixel line defects may occur in the image due to electrical short circuits at the resized cut edge. Methods for repairing such short circuits are described, including use of mechanical, electrical, chemical, thermal, and/or other means, and any combination thereof, to open the short circuits. The method may be applied to the sealed cut edge to ruggedize the seal, even if image defects are not exhibited initially. The repaired short circuits may be stress tested to ensure the defects will not recur during the life of the display, and the repaired areas may be resealed.

  • Patent number: 8257827
Abstract: A silicone composition having anti-microbial properties contains well distributed silica and nanoparticles of a noble metal. Silica and nanoparticles of a noble metal are added to liquid vinyl-terminated polydimethylsiloxane. A coupling agent is then added to the mixture and heated, the coupling agent comprising trialkoxysilane having a formula R1Si(OR2)3, wherein R1 is vinyl or allyl, and R2 is an alkyl radical having from 1 to 3 carbon atoms. In one embodiment, trimethylsiloxy terminated polymethylhydrosiloxane is then added to the mixture and heated in the presence of a catalyst so as to cross-link and cure the same into a silicone elastomer. In another embodiment, in place of the trimethylsiloxy terminated polymethylhydrosiloxane, a peroxide is added to mixture and heated to form the silicone. In this later example, no catalyst is needed.

  • Patent number: 8261215
Abstract: An improved method, system, and computer program product for selecting components for an early stage electronic design is disclosed. A library of cells is modeled and is characterized by parameter combinations, where the cell modeling information is based upon ranking and scoring of the cells in the cell library. Based upon design specification information for an electronic design, the cell modeling data is used to select one or more representative cells for the early stage design based upon the list of ranked cells. The rankings provide an indication of the appropriateness of the selected cells for the early stage design. The pre-modeling of the cells provides high efficiency at run-time when there is a need to quickly select cells for the early stage design.

  • Patent number: 8256898
Abstract: Tear film stability has an important role in the quality of vision. A system and method for performing Fluctuation Analysis of Spatial Image Correlation (FASIC) provides for a non-invasive system and method for evaluating the dynamics of the tear film surface using spatial autocorrelation analysis. With FASIC, a series of images are obtained using illumination and a camera. The spatial autocorrelation is calculated for image frames produced by the camera. A sinusoidal background appears in this correlation together with other features. The changes in the sinusoidal background of the spatial autocorrelation is extracted and monitored over time. The spatial period of this sinusoidal background correlates with the thickness of the tear film. In this regard, one is able to derive the tear film thickness from the period of this sinusoidal background.

  • Patent number: 8255369
Abstract: Techniques used in an automatic failover configuration having a primary database system, a standby database system, and an observer for preventing divergence among the primary and standby database systems while increasing the availability of the primary database system. In the automatic failover configuration, the primary database system remains available even in the absence of both the standby and the observer as long as the standby and the observer become absent sequentially. The failover configuration further permits automatic failover only when the observer is present and the standby and the primary are synchronized and inhibits state changes during failover. The database systems and the observer have copies of failover configuration state and the techniques include techniques for propagating the most recent version of the state among the databases and the observer and techniques for using carefully-ordered writes to ensure that state changes are propagated in a fashion which prevents divergence.
