  • Patent number: 8198977
Abstract: A current sense resistor and a method of manufacturing a current sensing resistor with temperature coefficient of resistance (TCR) compensation is disclosed. The resistor has a resistive strip disposed between two conductive strips. A pair of main terminals and a pair of voltage sense terminals are formed in the conductive strips. A pair of rough TCR calibration slots are located between the main terminals and the voltage sense terminals, each of the rough TCR calibration slots have a depth selected to obtain a negative starting TCR value observed at the voltage sense terminals. A fine TCR calibration slot is formed between the pair of voltage sense terminals. The fine TCR calibration slot has a depth selected to obtain a TCR value observed at the voltage sense terminals that approaches zero. The resistor can also have a resistance calibration slot located between the pair of main terminals. The resistance calibration slot has a depth selected to calibrate a resistance value of the resistor.

  • Patent number: 8199726
Abstract: In a wireless digital communication system which may employ CDMA technology, a method and system for obtaining channel quality (CQ) measurements for downlink resource allocation wherein a User Equipment (UE) continuously measures received signal code power (RSCP) based on a communication on a reference channel provided by the network. The UE measures timeslot interference signal code power (ISCP) either continuously, by configuration or by rotation and reports downlink CQ. The UE may report the RSCP once and the ISCP per timeslot, or may report some function of the RSCP/ISCP ratio such as modulation parameters or combined coding of all timeslots.

  • Patent number: 8199650
Abstract: A system and method which permit the RNC to control purging of data buffered in the Node B. The RNC monitors for a triggering event, which initiates the purging process. The RNC then informs the Node B of the need to purge data by transmitting a purge command, which prompts the Node B to delete at least a portion of buffered data. The purge command can include instructions for the Node B to purge all data for a particular UE, data in one or several user priority transmission queues or in one or more logical channels in the Node B, depending upon the particular data purge triggering event realized in the RNC.

  • Patent number: 8196665
Abstract: A method and apparatus are described for containing an oil spill caused by a subsea blowout, (i.e., a source of pollution located on a floor of an ocean, (e.g., a defective blowout preventer (BOP) that caused the oil spill)). A cylindrical containment assembly may be positioned such that a wall of the cylindrical containment assembly circumvents a portion of a floor of an ocean where the subsea blowout occurred. At least one mud flap may be configured to selectively protrude from the wall or retract into the wall when activated to control the depth that the cylindrical containment assembly sinks to below the ocean floor. A valve assembly may be positioned on the top perimeter of the wall. The top perimeter of the wall may have the same diameter as the outer perimeter of the valve assembly.

  • Patent number: 8200265
Abstract: A method of data transfer between wireless transmit/receive units (WTRUs) is performed by a sending communication device soliciting environment information relating to active communication devices operating within the local area of the WTRU. The local area of the WTRU may be determined by an environment variable that may be configured to indicate a search radius. Within the local area, information relating to active candidate WTRUs is received through a communication peripheral. User actions on the user interface are converted to electromechanical signals which act as an input along with the environment information to select a target WTRU from the candidate WTRUs to receive the data transfer. The environment information and user input are used to uniquely discriminate the target WTRU as the intended recipient of the data transfer. Transmission instructions are generated based on the solicited information and the user input.

  • Patent number: 8194783
Abstract: A technique for encoding a signal used in a digital communication system in which individual traffic channel data rates may be adapted to specific channel conditions. In particular, a forward error correction coding rate is adapted for individual channels while at the same time maintaining a fixed block size independent of the FEC coding rate. This allows the system data rate to adapt to the channel conditions experienced by a specific user. Thus, users experiencing good communication conditions with low multipath distortion may be allocated higher capacity, whereas users with significant multipath distortion may make use of lower rate (higher levels of coding) error codes to maintain high quality. Messages are sent from a transmitter to a receiver to inform the receiver of the coding rate implemented at any given point in time.

  • Patent number: 8194599
Abstract: A method and system for autonomous channel coordination for a wireless distribution system (WDS) are disclosed. A wireless communication system includes a plurality of access points (APs) and the APs communicate each other via a WDS. A coordinated channel group (CCG) of a plurality of member APs is established. The member APs of the CCG camp on a WDS channel used for the WDS among the member APs of the CCG. One AP among the member APs of the CCG is designated as a master AP. The master AP coordinates with other member APs of the CCG for selecting and configuring the WDS channel for the CCG and addition and deletion of member APs. By allowing APs to define a CCG, changes of the WDS channel are performed autonomously while maintaining connectivity.

  • Patent number: 8190790
Abstract: Appropriate parameters can be efficiently set for network ports included in a storage apparatus. A storage apparatus performing I/O processing on a storage drive in response to an I/O request manages a first table in which a network device (SAS controller, SAS expander) is associated with location information of the network ports, a second table in which the cable length of a network cable coupled to each of the network ports is associated with a port ID of the network port, and a relationship between the cable length of the network cable and the parameter (output amplitude, pre-emphasis) set for the network port. The storage apparatus acquires the cable length of the network cable from the second table, determines the parameters corresponding to the acquired cable length from the above relationship, and sets the determined parameter for the network port.
