  • Patent number: 8098742
Abstract: An analog/digital gain control device avoid some of the requirements associated with the nature of a closed-loop AGC circuits and which meets the remaining requirements without much difficulty uses an analog to digital conversion method that increases the number of effective ADC bits by compressing the baseband input analog signal using a logarithmic circuit. After the compressed analog signal is converted into a digital signal, a digital anti-log process or look-up table (LUT) is used to expand the digital signal back to the original linear scale. The word size of the output of the anti-log process is larger than the input word size due to the nature of the anti-log function. To reduce the word size of the digital signal an open loop normalization technique can be applied.

  • Patent number: 8097122
Abstract: Segments, typically ceramic, for use in dewatering blades for papermaking and similar machines comprise lower surfaces to each of which at least one interlock member is bonded. The segments are installed by inserting the interlock members into a channel in an intermediate sub-assembly or base member. The members are securely attached within the channel by a suitable adhesive, or clip means to engage the interlock members, with the optional addition of an adhesive. The segments and dewatering blades, and a method of manufacture, allows for the segments to be made as flat units, without unnecessary angular surfaces, simplifies their attachment to the base, and reduces the occurrence of stress cracking or other damage to the segments. A single segment can be used in various dewatering blade types and in more than one orientation in dewatering blades, reducing manufacturing costs by unitizing construction.

  • Patent number: 8092150
Abstract: A method for axial thrust control of a gas turbine, and a gas turbine with a device for controlling axial thrust are provided. A gas turbine, with regard to aerodynamic forces and pressure forces, which exert an axial force upon the rotor, is configured such that at no-load and low partial load it has a negative thrust, and at high load it has a positive thrust. In order to ensure a resulting positive thrust upon the thrust bearing within the entire load range of the gas turbine, an additional thrust is applied in a controlled manner. The additional thrust for example can be controlled in dependence upon the gas turbine load. The resulting thrust force at full load is consequently less than in the case of a conventionally designed gas turbine without thrust balance.

  • Patent number: 8095168
Abstract: A method and apparatus for performing closed loop transmit power control of a fractional dedicated physical channel (F-DPCH) are disclosed. Transmit power control (TPC) symbols on an F-DPCH and common pilot channel (CPICH) symbols are received. A short term signal power estimate is calculated using the TPC symbols, and a short term noise power estimate is calculated using the CPICH symbols. A short term signal-to-interference ratio (SIR) on the F-DPCH is calculated. A long term signal power estimate and a long term noise power estimate are calculated using the TPC symbols. A long term SIR is calculated and compared to a TPC quality target. An SIR target is adjusted based on comparison of the long term SIR to the TPC quality target. The short term SIR is compared to the SIR target and a TPC command is generated based on comparison of the short term SIR to the SIR target.

  • Patent number: 8095139
Abstract: A method and apparatus for assigning cell and resource blocks to a wireless transmit/receive units (WTRU) in a wireless communication system including a resource management unit and a plurality of cells having resource blocks are disclosed. The WTRU is currently associated with a particular one of the cells. Path losses between the WTRU and cells neighboring the particular cell are determined. The average level of inter-cell interference on each resource block at each cell neighboring the particular cell is then determined. A signal-to-interference ratio (SIR) is then determined to support a guaranteed bit rate of the WTRU on an uplink.

  • Patent number: 8091735
Abstract: An improved concentrated/extract cartridge is provided for dispensing a liquid in an accurate and repeatable manner. The cartridge includes an electromagnetically actuated piston connected to a value. The piston includes an exterior ring supported by a hollow interior web that is configured to permit a flow of fluid into the dispensing tube when the value body is in contact with the value seat. A membrane is located below the web and is in sealing contact with the internal ring when the piston is activated. This allows a precise and repeatable amount of the liquid to be dispensed with each stroke. Dispensers for dispensing the liquid from the cartridge for a number of applications are also provided. The dispensers each include an actuating coil into which the dispensing tube is inserted. A controller is connected to the coil for controlling the actuation of the piston/value assembly for dispensing the fluid in the cartridge as required for the particular application.

  • Patent number: 8091541
Abstract: The invention relates to a device for feeding projectile balls into the ball chamber of a handgun, especially into the ball chamber of a paintball gun, having a ball container with an outlet port, a feeder tube between the outlet port and the ball chamber, and an essentially cylindrical feeder with an axis for feeding the balls from the ball container to the feeder tube. The device comprises a flexible element that is disposed inside the ball container adjacent to the outlet port. A first end of the flexible element is fixed to the ball container and the flexible element is essentially rigid in the direction of the axis. Balls that are not in the correct position when approaching the outlet port are deflected back into the ball container, instead of hitting the edge of the outlet port. This way, jamming of the balls and explosion by excessive pressure are prevented.

  • Patent number: 8088482
Abstract: Hollow thermoexpandable particles or microspheres are provided that contain hydrocarbon blowing agents and have a shell polymer that can be softened at the onset of the expansion temperature and solidified at a higher temperature (thermoset) in an expanded state. Preferably, the microspheres have a shell of thermally expandable and thermally crosslinkable polymer and a hollow interior that contains a hydrocarbon liquid that boils at a temperature below the heat activated crosslinking temperature of the polymer shell. The crosslinking of the shell polymer during or after expansion, which is heat activated at an elevated temperature, can solidify the shell polymer and, then, maintain the expanded volume of the microspheres. The thermoexpandable thermoset polymer particles are useful in insulation, packaging, for making foam materials such as polyurethane or polyisocyanurate rigid foams.

  • Patent number: 8091135
Abstract: A computer system uses a virus-scan method capable of full-scanning the logical volume of a SUTOSEN PC with high frequency while limiting the number of virus-scan devices. The computer system includes a primary volume storing data from a personal computer, a snapshot volume storing the status of the primary volume at a given point in time, and a save destination volume storing an updated memory area within the primary volume as information on an updated block address reflected in a bitmap. The updated block address corresponds to a memory area within the primary volume. The computer system detects only an updated file in the primary volume from the snapshot volume and the save destination volume, creates an updated volume for storing a relevant updated file, and thereby executes a virus-scan on the updated volume.
