Abstract: A method of improved performance through channel quality prediction for communications systems employing link adaption techniques includes a receiver which makes selective measurements on downlink transmissions, and then stores one or more of the measurements or a channel quality indicator derived therefrom. The receiver then retrieves one or more of the past measurements (or the past channel quality estimates themselves), and combines it with current measurements (or the current channel quality estimate), to predict what the channel quality will be at some future time and derive a predictive channel quality indicator (CQI). This predictive CQI, derived from both current channel measurements and at least one past channel measurement, is then sent to the transmitter for use in updating transmission parameters.

Abstract: A method and apparatus of providing a piggybacked positive acknowledgement/negative acknowledgement (ACK/NACK) (PAN) field indicator (PANI) and a polling indicator are disclosed. A combined field of a PANI bit, a relative reserved block period (RRBP) bit and an EGPRS supplementary polling (ES/P) field may indicate a polling scheme and a presence of a PAN field. Alternatively, the presence of the PAN field in the data block may be indicated by using a specific training sequence. Alternatively, a forward error correction (FEC) coding may be performed on the data block including the header, and the presence of the PAN field may be indicated by scrambling the encoded bits corresponding the header with a specific scrambling sequence. Alternatively, a header check sequence (HCS) may be generated and the presence of the PAN field is indicated by mixing a predetermined sequence with the HCS.

Abstract: The sliding window approach to pipeline maximum a posteriori (MAP) decoder architecture is modified to decrease processing time. Once the forward metrics have been calculated for the first sliding window of the decoder, the reverse metrics for each window are calculated while the forward metrics for the next window are calculated. As each new forward metric is calculated and stored into memory, the forward metric from the previous window is read from memory for use with reverse metric being calculated in calculating extrinsic value. Each forward metric for use in calculating an extrinsic value is written to the same memory location. The calculations can be reversed, reverse metrics being calculated first, followed by reverse metric calculations. Although this architecture as developed for a turbo decoder, all convolution codes can use the MAP algorithm of the present invention.
Abstract: The described actuation device comprises a housing, intended for attachment to the handlebars or to the frame of a bicycle, a cable-winding bobbin, angularly mobile in the housing about a main axis (X) of the device, and support means of the bobbin in the housing. Such support means comprise a first support unit at an outer guide collar of the cable-winding bobbin, situated in an intermediate position of the bobbin in the direction of the main axis (X) of the device. An excellent distribution of the stresses between the bobbin and the housing is thus ensured, substantially reducing the risks of excessive deformation and breaking.

Abstract: The present invention detects patterns that conform to the user conditions in cases where a disaster recovery constitution is constructed by connecting a plurality of sites. The design system is used in cases where the disaster recovery constitution is provided in a storage system. The site information acquisition section acquires information relating to the constitution in the sites and information relating to the connections between the sites, and stores the information in the site information table. The candidate pattern generation section generates candidate patterns for each of the parameters on the basis of the site information table and a basic pattern table. The candidate pattern evaluation section evaluates the respective candidate patterns by using the user condition table and presents patterns which conform to the user conditions to the user. The document output section generates a construction procedure and operating procedure on the basis of patterns selected by the user.
Abstract: A method and system is disclosed for providing assistance data to wireless transmit/receive units (WTRUs). The assistance data includes information regarding the access point's neighboring access points. The assistance data is transmitted to WTRUs using multicast and/or broadcast type signaling and facilitates ring and handover of WTRUs from one access point to another.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for providing a wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU) with access to at least one peripheral device, and/or at least one peripheral device associated with an available auxiliary device. The current peripheral device requirements of the WTRU are determined. The radio frequency (RF) environment of the WTRU is scanned to determine if there are any available wireless peripheral devices or wireless auxiliary devices proximate to the WTRU. A determination is also made as to whether there is a wired peripheral device or a wired auxiliary device available. A list of currently available peripheral devices is compiled by scanning at least one peripheral device registry associated with at least one of a wireless auxiliary device and a wired auxiliary device. The list is presented on the WTRU's display and a user selects at least one of the available peripheral devices from the list.

Abstract: A subscriber unit for use in a multiple access spread-spectrum communication system includes a spread spectrum radio interface, responsive to a rate function signal from a base station, and first and second despreaders. The base station assigns the rate function spread-spectrum message channels and the first despreader recovers and modifies an information signal one of the spread spectrum message channels. The information channel mode is then modified for processing by the second despreader, with the second despreader supporting a different information signal rate. The subscriber unit has a capability of communicating with a dynamically changing a transmission rate of an information signal which includes multiple spread spectrum message channels.

Abstract: The present invention is related to a method and apparatus for enhancing security of communications. The apparatus comprises a security processing unit, a data processing unit, a cross-layer watermarking unit, and optionally a smart antenna processor. The security processing unit generates a token/key to be used in watermarking and sends a node security policy to other components. The data processing unit generates user data. The cross-layer watermarking unit includes at least one of Layer-2/3, Layer-1 and Layer-0. Each layer performs a different scheme or degree of watermarking. The cross-layer watermarking unit embeds the token/key into the user data transmission on at least one of the layers selectively in accordance with a security policy.

Abstract: A wireless digital communication system includes a base station in communication with a plurality of user equipment mobile terminals (UEs). The system prioritizes the forwarding of blocks of downlink data to designated ones of the UEs. The system employs adaptive modulation and coding (AM&C) to achieve improved radio resource utilization and provides optimum data rates for user services. Blocks of downlink (DL) data are received by the base station which requests downlink (DL) channel quality measurements only from those mobile terminals (UEs) with pending downlink transmissions. The UEs respond to the request by measuring and reporting DL channel quality to the base station, which then allocates resources such that the UEs will make best use of radio resources. The base station notifies the UEs of the physical channel allocation indicating the modulation/coding rate and allocated slots followed by transmission of blocks of downlink data which are transmitted to the UEs.

Abstract: A controller transmits a second protocol command to a target from among one or more switch devices. The second protocol command is a command which conforms to a second protocol type in which a connection established for transmitting a command to the target is broken during processing of the command by the target, and is defined as a command corresponding to a first protocol command, which is a command conforming to a first protocol type in which the connection remains established during processing of the command by the target.
Abstract: A criterion for biasing a binary decision requiring an unequal protection which utilizes a measured signal to interference ratio (SIR). The SIR may be derived from a determination of channel estimation. The SIR is compared against a threshold, the threshold being selected to bias the decision toward a not acknowledge (NACK) as opposed to an acknowledge (ACK) determination. The technique is advantageous for providing biased binary decisions for high speed downlink packets (HSDP) but may be utilized for both uplink and downlink applications.

Abstract: An address for data bits is determined by categorizing the bits into a first, second, third and fourth case. The first case is for bits transferred in only one resource unit in a time slot; the second case is for bits transferred in a plurality of downlink resource units; the third case is for bits transferred in an uplink resource unit where a spreading factor of data in a first resource unit is greater than or equal to a spreading factor of a second resource unit; and the fourth case is for bits transferred in an uplink resource unit where a spreading factor of data in a first resource unit is less than a spreading factor of a second resource unit.
