Patent number: 5233303Abstract: An electron spin resonance spectrometer which is dedicated to a specific narrow range of tasks is reduced in size such that, as contrasted with the usual laboratory ESR spectrometers, it is easily and readily portable and can be carried to various locations to conduct tests. It uses a much smaller magnet structure than usual, a self contained single board computer, and a microwave source which is adjustable by the computer. The microwave source operates in the 2 GHz range and is connected through a circulator with a matching circuit which inductively couples the microwave signal to a sample chamber/resonator positioned in the magnetic field of the magnet structure. An oscillator provides a audio frequency signal which is combined with a slow ramp signal from the computer to modulate the output of the magnet structure.Type: GrantFiled: May 23, 1991Date of Patent: August 3, 1993Inventors: Barney Bales, Albert J. Patent number: 5224459Abstract: A centrifugal supercharger system for an internal combustion is directly driven by the associated engine and includes a belt driven drive pulley and bracket for locating an idler pulley for tensioning the belt. A plurality of bosses on the housing plus arcuate slots on the bracket provide for flexibility in locating the idler pulley. The drive pulley drives a gear which engages a driven gear on a separate shaft carrying the compressor wheel which is driven at a multiple of engine speed within a volute. The compressor wheel is recessed into an internal wall of the housing to provide smooth flow of air from the compressor wheel into the volute. Another group of bosses on said housing cooperate with an engine mounted bracket to provide flexibility in mounting the supercharger on various engines.Type: GrantFiled: June 25, 1991Date of Patent: July 6, 1993Inventor: James Middlebrook

Patent number: 5221842Abstract: A portable self contained calibrator/irradiator for calibrating large numbers of several types of personal dosimetry equipment includes a generally cylindrical housing having relatively heavy exterior lead, lined walls with a heavy cover also lined with lead shielding material. An electrically controlled and powered actuator raises and lowers the cover to provide access to the interior. A centrally located shielding structure provides a guide for a rod carrying one or more sources of nuclear radiation such as 137Cs which are moved vertically along the axis of the shielding structure to a guide permitting 360.degree. radiation of dosimeters arranged in a circular rack on a turntable inside the housing walls. The source rod includes tungsten sheathing above and below the radioactive sources. Interlock switches prevent opening the cover when the source rod is in radiating position. An alternate embodiment includes an attenuator in the form of a thin tungsten sleeve slidable over the radiation source.Type: GrantFiled: October 11, 1991Date of Patent: June 22, 1993Assignee: J. L. Patent number: 5208920Abstract: The present discloses an adjustment system for forming a repeatedly adjustable hem on a garment. There is provided an adjustment mechanism consisting of a cord with one end that is attached to the garment's inside hem while the other end is looped threaded through a holding pocket or channel that is secured to the garment's inside seam. The loop of cord above the holding pocket or channel is then preferably knotted. A fabric lining piece containing one or two lining windows is attached to the garment over the adjustment mechanism. Adjustment is made by opening the lining window, grasping the adjustment mechanism's loop and pulling it until the hem has turned up the prescribed amount. The loop is then placed back inside the lining window. The bloused lining is smoothed, the garment is pressed, and the adjustment is complete and undetectable.Type: GrantFiled: February 5, 1992Date of Patent: May 11, 1993Inventors: Aaron Schaefer, James Ranney

Patent number: 5199627Abstract: A hammer including a magazine for holding and feeding fasteners such as nails including hydraulic means for driving the fasteners. The hammer head is movable to the rearward with respect to the body and the handle upon impacting a work surface driving one or more pistons rearwardly. Cylinders for the pistons surround a single fastener driver cylinder and piston of smaller surface area than rearward traveling piston or pistons. Hydraulic fluid flows from the large or multiple piston(s) through a manifold to the rear of the fastener drive cylinder piston. Rapid forward movement of the fastener drive piston sets the fastener. Forward movement of the movable head by a return spring opens a chamber for the next fastener to be placed by spring action in front of the fastener drive blade, ready for the next fastener placement. The body of the hammer is secured to the handle at an angle A which is between 95.degree. and 116.degree. and the center of gravity of the hammer is located between at handle location .+-.Type: GrantFiled: March 29, 1991Date of Patent: April 6, 1993Inventor: Jeffrey M. Christensen

Patent number: 5165442Abstract: A fire fighting foam proportioner for use in providing precise proportioning of foam to fire fighting liquid, e.g. water, is disclosed. It includes a tank for the storage of foam concentrate which is loaded using a hand pump. The storage tank is coupled to a fire fighting line through a differential pressure responsive valve in the fire fighting line and a proportioning valve used to select the foam concentration desired, for example 0.2 to 1 percent of the fire fighting liquid. The differential pressure responsive valve applies discharge pressure to the foam concentrate as a function of the fluid flow through the line and therefore provides precise flow concentration maintenance despite changes if flow and line pressure. The differential pressure responsive valve includes to coaxial valving members and low and high pressure ports which are coupled to control the discharged pressure to the tank. The proportioner valve include a rotor with a continuous variable groove for precise control.Type: GrantFiled: February 25, 1991Date of Patent: November 24, 1992Inventors: John R. Grindley, Robert M.
