  • Patent number: 6823682
Abstract: An absorption chiller having a protection system for preventing the chilled water in the evaporator tubes from freezing in the event the water flow through the tubes closes down while the machine is running. A sensor in the evaporator heat exchanger is arranged to detect when the water flow through the heat exchanger tubes closes down and signals the machine controller. The controller, in turn, shuts down the machine and opens a valve in a feed line to the evaporator to deliver a high temperature working fluid from another section of the machine to the evaporator to maintain the temperature in the evaporator above that at which the water in the tubes freezes.

  • Patent number: 6820952
Abstract: An air handling unit (AHU) includes a frame structure and panels that are assembled to provide ducting for handling air. Some panels include a living hinge which is one-piece with a panel perimeter. The living hinge is mounted onto side pieces of the frame structure and latched with a latching mechanism. A hollow compressible seal is attached to the side pieces such that closing and latching the hinged panels provides a sealing fit between the hinged panel and the frame structure.

  • Patent number: 6820434
Abstract: The compressor of a transport refrigeration system is divided into two sections, with each section having a suction inlet. The refrigerant vapor from the evaporator is passed to one of the suction inlets, whereas the refrigerant vapor from a subcooler circuit is passed to the other suction inlet. A valve is operated to selectively insert or remove the subcooler as capacity requirements vary. In one embodiment, a six cylinder reciprocating compressor is used with five cylinders compressing within a first section, and a single cylinder compressing in the other section containing the subcooler circuit.

  • Patent number: 6819153
Abstract: A semiconductor device that generates a clock which is synchronized with a reference signal stably and with fixed synchronization accuracy, and enables to deal with an abrupt variation in the reference signal. This semiconductor device includes N stages of delay elements each delaying an external clock by 1/N clock (N: an integer that is two or larger); a phase comparator for comparing the phase of a clock that has been delayed by the N stages of the delay elements with the phase of the external clock one clock late; a controller that receives a phase difference detected by the phase comparator and controls respective delays of the delay elements; and a selector for selecting a delayed clock having the closest phase to the reference signal from delayed clocks which are generated by the N stages of the delay elements, respectively, and shifted in phase with each other by 1/N clock.

  • Patent number: 6819410
Abstract: A process for identifying an embossed image of a coin in an automatic coin tester, in which a coin is moved to an image receiver and a light source, the image receiver picks up at least one image of the embossed image of the coin, and a validation device compares the image to a first reference pattern to find out whether the first reference pattern is contained in the image which was picked-up. If the first reference pattern is contained in the image, the validation device determines whether a second reference pattern is contained in an area the position of which is determined relative to the position of the first reference pattern, the validation device producing a genuine coin or counterfeit coin signal for the coin depending on the coincidence of the image with the reference patterns.

  • Patent number: 6814773
Abstract: An expandable media filter structure is composed largely of biodegradable materials and is environmentally disposable. A plurality of pleated panels are interconnected at their edges so as to be collapsible for storage and shipping purposes but expandable for installation and use. A plurality of ribbons are ultrasonically welded to each of the panels edges, with the ribbon portions between edges being of substantially equal lengths, thereby maintaining equal spacing between the panel edges when the filter is in the expanded condition but allowing an each collapsing of the filter for storage. Forming a part of the nondisposable framework for support of the disposable filter are a pair of end plates which are C-shaped in cross section for slidably receiving an end panel of the media filter therein. The depth of the C-shaped channel is sufficient to allow a plurality of the unexpended pleats to be stored therein so that a single sized filter may be used for various sizes of cabinet openings.

  • Patent number: 6814540
Abstract: A vaned diffuser for a centrifugal compressor has provision for selectively adjusting the pitch of the vanes in order to accommodate variable load conditions. Each of the vanes is rotatable about a pivot pin near its leading edge and is engaged with an actuation member near its trailing edge. The actuation members are attached to a common ring which can be selectively rotated to move to the vanes in unison. The ring is supported by rollers at its outer periphery and is positioned at the outer periphery of a diffuser wall such that there is no forward facing step projecting into the flow stream. A throat is defined between adjacent vanes, and the pivot pin for each vane is located downstream of the throat on the pressure side of the vane to reduce turbulence in the flow at the throat.

  • Patent number: 6814290
Abstract: In the present invention, a bar code reader captures an initial image map corresponding to a scene, then subjects the initial image map to an interpolation step wherein values for constructed pixels positionally intermediate pixel values of the initial image map are interpolated as a function of the initial image map pixel values bordering the constructed pixels. After an interpolated image map is constructed, the interpolated image map is subjected to a binarization step wherein grey scale pixel values of the interpolated image map are converted into binary (1 or 0) pixel values by way of a thresholding process. In the thresholding process, grey scale pixel values are compared to a threshold in the grey scale range, then set to 1 if they are above the threshold and set to 0 if below the threshold.

  • Patent number: 6808415
Abstract: A two-piece cable connector includes a connector body and a threaded nut or compression fitting that attaches at a first end of the connector body. Two series of rings are interleaved with tapered sides adjacent each other, with the rings being fitted inside the connector body outside a portion of a mandrel. Two plastic rings are fitted adjacent the series of rings at the first end of the connector body. The threaded nut or compression fitting drives the plastic rings against each other and the inboard ring against the series of rings in wedging engagement, thus creating an interference fit among the grounded connector body, the series of rings, a ground sheath of a coaxial cable, and the mandrel. The two plastic rings from a seal protecting the inside of the cable connector from the environment.

  • Patent number: 6794957
Abstract: A filter assembly for use in the CATV industry includes a circuit formed by components mounted upon at least one circuit board with a plurality of paths or traces on the board connecting each section of the circuit to a member at ground potential. The grounding member may be a grounding bus on the circuit board which is in contact with a housing wherein the circuit board is mounted, or the paths may extend from a circuit component to contact the housing directly. The paths are kept to a very short length, preferably not more than 2.5 millimeters and in no case longer than 5 millimeters. This avoids the presence of inductive and/or resistive parasitics in the paths, thereby avoiding the degradation of performance typical in comparable prior art filter circuits, particularly at higher frequencies, e.g., above about 300 MHz. In the preferred embodiment grounding buses in the form of elongated strips extend along opposite edge portions of the board.
