Abstract: A novel endoscopic intubator which permits atraumatic intubation through the cricopharyngeal sphincter of the esophagus without risk of perforation of the esophagus or pharynx. The intubator of the present invention comprises a deformable hood for shielding and carrying the distal end of the endoscope, the hood having two deformable leaves which define a pocket for receiving the distal end, an elongaed conduit joined to the hood for external manipulation of the hood, the length of conduit being at least coextensive with the length of the shaft of the endoscope so that a proximal end of the conduit protrudes from the patient's mouth, and an annular gripping member secured to the proximal end of the conduit to permit an endoscopist to slidably withdraw the hood from the distal end.

Abstract: Apparatus for automatically dispensing a flowable material, especially an edible flowable material, especially an edible flowable material such as a sauce on an object such as pizza dough preparatory to making the end product. The apparatus includes air-pressure actuated reciprocatable piston means associated with valve means for channeling a flowable material from a source thereof to dispensing means provided in the apparatus. Piston stroke limiting means, as well as sealing means for the dispensing means, are provided to selectively control the amount of flowable material dispensed by the apparatus. The apparatus advantageously is associated with conveyor means and meat dispensing means to enable a product such as pizza to be prepared on a continuous, mass production basis.
Abstract: A method and capacitor control apparatus for controlling the power factor and voltage on an electrical distribution line based on the power factor on the line subject to a voltage override control. Hysteresis above an undervoltage limit and below an overvoltage limit prevent undesired oscillation in switching the capacitor controls to and from the distribution line.
Abstract: The terminal tackle device of the present invention generally includes a body portion being open at each end and having an internal longitudinal channel connecting each end. The body portion has outer dimensions larger than the inner dimensions of the terminal guide of a fishing rod. A barbless bend segment is fully retractable within one end of the body portion. An end of the bend segment carries a sharpened point and an other end of the bend segment is linked to a flexible shank which is slidably movable within the longitudinal channel of the body portion. The shank is of sufficient length so that an eye carried at an other end of the shank extends outside of and from an other end of the body portion. A biasing element is carried within the longitudinal channel of the body portion and surrounds a portion of the shank to return the bend segment, after retraction, to a fully extended position.
Abstract: Lubricant compositions adapted for use under extreme conditions comprising a major proportion of an oil or grease base material, and a minor proportion of an aromatic polyamide fibrous substance in an amount sufficient to impart a fibrous texture to the base material.

Abstract: This invention relates to the production casting of molten metal. In such casting, the molten metal being poured into one cavity may be splashed or overflowed into another adjacent cavity. The invention provides a splash guard which defines a barrier to the molten metal and prevents such inadvertent introduction of the molten metal into an adjacent cavity. The splash guard preferably comprises a substantially solid object made of a material, such as graphite, that retains its structural integrity at high temperatures and upon contact with molten metal, but which does not strongly adhere or bond to the molten metal upon cooling. The invention can be embodied in both manual and automatic casting lines. In a manual casting line, the splash guard may physically contact a surface of the mold to create the molten metal barrier between the cavities.
Abstract: Cast iron selected from the group consisting of white iron, compacted graphite iron, malleable iron, gray iron, and ductile iron is cast in a mold in which steel or metal, such as a tube defines a portion of the mold form.
Abstract: A fingernail device which includes a receptacle having a small diameter fluid passageway positioned at an angle to the base of the receptacle. The passageway has a nozzle which directs fluid at a downward angle to the upper surface of the base of the receptacle to create a high-velocity, shallow, fan-shaped fluid stream which flows along and substantially parallel to said base in the direction of the finger tips which are in contact with the base in proximity to the nozzle. The receptacle has a depth such that the level of the fluid retained in it during a cleaning operation will develop a head sufficient to eliminate any splashing, spray-out or extreme turbulance of the fluid in the receptacle. Passageway means are provided for entraining a cleansing agent in the fluid stream.
Abstract: A porcelain veneered dental restoration in which UV fluorescing agent is present in each of the opaque, body and incisal layers at a level to provide the restoration with a uniform fluorescence matching that of natural teeth.
Abstract: Coating compositions for metals effective to inhibit corrosion of ferrous and nonferrous metals susceptible to corrosion, said compositions comprising an inorganic-organic complex in the form of a thixotropic overbased alkaline earth metal sulfonate, particularly calcium, organic sulfonate, complexed with an alkaline earth metal, particularly calcium, carbonate; and linseed oil or a drying oil having drying properties generally similar to linseed oil, said linseed oil constituting at least 15% and, particularly, higher percentages up to about 50%, by weight of the coating compositions; and a drier, preferably of the paint drier type; and particularly advantageously also containing an epoxidized oil, particularly an epoxidized drying oil; and, also, such ingredients as mineral oils, waxes, petrolatums and resins.

Abstract: Apparatus for automatically securing borderwires on mattress innersprings, comprising support members for receiving borderwires and a mattress innerspring in stacked, properly oriented relation to one another. A drive mechanism is provided for automatically sequentially advancing the borderwires and the mattress innerspring along the support members to a clip wrapping station where a plurality of clips are simultaneously wrapped on the borderwires and the coils of the mattress innerspring. Control elements are provided for sensing when clips are to be wrapped, and when a predetermined number of clips have been wrapped on each side and each end of borderwires and the mattress innerspring.
Abstract: A sheet material for use in the production of multi-part pressure sensitive adhesive articles such as labels. In one of its forms, the sheet material consists carbonless paper having a coating or film of a silicone release agent on the imageable side thereof. In other of its forms, a coating or layer of a polymer composition, which acts to accelerate curing the silicone release agent, is interposed between the imageable side of the self-contained carbonless paper and the coating or film of silicone release agent.

Abstract: The assembly of individual segments to obtain large-volume containers is facilitated by the edges of the individual segments being provided with projecting support members including cut-outs in which an aligning tool is insertable; an engaging element of said tool for aligning said one individual segment relative to the adjacent segment, which along the edge thereof is in contact with the edge of the first-mentioned individual segment, being brought into engagement with a surface of said adjacent individual segment so that the engaging element will ride or roll along the surface of said adjacent individual segment due to a pivoting or lever movement, the two edges being simultaneously brought to an aligned, coincident position.
Abstract: An apparatus for cleaning a residential water heater 10 or the like without the need for draining and re-filling the tank. The water heater is generally vertically disposed and has a cylindrical side wall 12, a top 14, and a bottom 16. A water supply tube 20 terminates in a nozzle 22 which permits entry of a stream of water 24 in a generally horizontal spray pattern along the bottom to flush and agitate any foreign matter 38 along the bottom. A drain cock 28 is provided within the heater side wall and opposite the nozzle, the drain cock being opened upon flushing of the bottom of the water heater so that any foreign matter is removed through the drain cock. In lieu of a simple, single-orificed nozzle, a multiple-orifices nozzle 22b or a plurality of nozzles may be provided.
Abstract: Improved nail guide and positioning means for use in pneumatically operated and manually operated nailing machines. The nail guide and positioning means acts to maintain each nail, including the last nail, of a nailing strip used in the machine in proper alignment with the nail driving blade of the machine and a workpiece.
Abstract: An improved low water neutralization energy-saving process for the preparation of an alkaryl sulfonate by combining an alkaryl sulfonic acid with a salt-forming base, and utilizing the heat generated during the neutralization reaction to drive off the water present in the reaction mixture.
