Abstract: Condensing instruments are used for packing and condensing in connection with placement of dental composite resin restorative materials. These instruments are manufactured in metal or plastic material. Some composite resins however, contain hard particles and require a relatively large condensing pressure which causes abrasion of superficial fragments of prior art metal instruments. These fragments are confined in the restorative material and causes discoloration, often after oxidation. Plastic instruments quickly loose their surface finish, which may render it impossible to perform an adequate condensation. In order to provide an instrument which does not cause discoloration and which guarantees a durable function, at least one functional member (4 and/or 5) of the instrument consists of a metal alloy having a coating (6 and/or 7) of ceramic material which provides the working surface (8 and/or 9) of the functional member.
Abstract: A stable aqueous dispersion of a room temperature curing polymer effective for forming films resistant to water and organic solvents, said polymer being a water-dispersible vinyl addition polymer containing a sufficient proportion of pendant N-methylolhydrazide groups to cause the polymer to cure in situ on a substrate when said dispersion is applied to the substrate and dried at ambient temperature. The polymer preferably sufficient pendant carboxylic salt groups to render the polymer water-dispersible or water soluble.

Abstract: An improved clip assembly in the form of a row of aligned U-shaped clips. The clips are maintained in aligned relation to each other by resilient interconnecting means such as small diameter flexible strong metal wires which advantageously are intimately secured to the crown portions of the clips by a metal-to-metal bond. The assembly can be wound, in the manner of spool of thread or wire, into a tight, self-sustaining, compact roll comprising thousands of clips. The invention also involves a method of producing said improved clip assembly and a method in which said improved clip assembly is utilized to wrap the U-shaped clips on overlying wire members to produce bed spring, furniture and the like.
Abstract: A method for the preparation of isethionic acid by treating an alkali metal isethionate with hydrochloric acid to form isethionic acid and a chloride salt. The chloride salt is removed so as to provide at least a 50% by weight aqueous solution of the isethionic acid after removal of excess hydrochloric acid, which solution may be further reacted with a polyvalent metal oxide, hydroxide or amine to form the corresponding heavy metal isethionate. Zinc isethionate, for instance, is useful as a catalyst for making acyl isethionates used in making soap bars.
Abstract: A switching timer device includes a manual switch having "on", "off" and "timer" positions. When the switch is set in the "on" position a load is supplied continuous power from a source. When the switch is set in the "timer" position, a load-powering power switch is closed for a predetermined length of time determined by a timer that is automatically reset when the manual switch is so actuated, and after elapse of the predetermined time the power switch is opened to de-energize the load. The timer is configured as a direct replacement for existing wall-mounted switch units without requiring access to the low side of the line, and consumes no internal power when in the normal "on" position.
Abstract: Lubricant compositions adapted for use in lubricating traction motor gears comprising a major proportion of a base oil such as a mineral oil, and a minor proportion of an oil soluble polymer such as a polyisobutylene.

Abstract: A carrying case for portable electronic paging devices has a partitioned receptacle assembly with a first receptacle to receive the paging device and a second receptacle to positively receive and engage the device's mounting clip. A releasable strap allows the receptacle assembly to be tripped or pivoted away from the wearer while being worn by the wearer to enable the paging device's controls or indicators to be generated or read.
Abstract: A pushbutton tuner formed of a base unit (A) including a memory slide and operating members for displacing the memory slide upon operation of a push button; a coil unit (B) including a movable member provided with cores displaceable relative to coils; a clutch unit (C) including a clutch mechanism and provided with a rotating shaft for manual tuning operation; and an arm unit (D) including a plurality of button slides fitted with push buttons, respectively, and slidably disposed on a top plate. These units are assembled separately from each other and, then, mounted on a baseplate of the base unit (A).
Abstract: A pushbutton tuner wherein a setting plate having a guide slot is fitted in an opening formed on a chassis and adapted to be rotated or fixed by a slide plate interlocked with a button slide, a link having a guide opening is rotatably fitted on the setting plate and a setting arm pivotally connected to the button slide is engaged with the guide slot of the setting plate and the guide opening of the link, the link being operable to displace a memory slide.
Abstract: A cadmium electrode for a rechargeable alkaline cell comprises a rigid substrate having particle-receiving recesses therein into and upon which are pressed a particulate mix of binder coated cadmium oxide particles and cadmium particles which constitute an active precharge anti-fading constituent of the mix. The binder coating may be a substantially insulating material, in which case the cadmium particles in various places are pressed into the substrate so that they penetrate through the binder coating to make direct contact with the cadmium oxide particles. The binder is most advantageously a curable butadiene polymer binder coating on the cadmium oxide particles preferably formed by heating an initial slurry of an emulsion of the binder and cadmium oxide particles to vaporize the liquid carrier and at least partially cure the binder material.
Abstract: Energy-efficient processes for spray drying aqueous liquids in a spray dryer supplied with furnace-heated drying gas which processes comprise withdrawing the spent drying gas from the spray dryer, spraying the spent drying gas with water adiabatically to cool the gas and increase the water content thereof, and recycling a portion of the humidified gas to the furnace, the recycled portion being from about 40 percent to about 70 percent of the total humidified gas, together with apparatus for carrying out the processes.
Abstract: An audio magnetic recording medium includes a magnetic material carrier backing and a layer of a magnetic material thereover comprising magnetic particles dispersed in a binder, the magnetic particles having a thin coating thereon of a rare earth-containing material, preferably samarium pentoxide. The amount of the rare earth-containing material in the recording medium is only a small percentage by weight of the coated magnetic particles so as not to adversely effect the erasability of the magnetic record to be recorded, but is of sufficient amount to improve the frequency response, signal to noise ratio, or channel separation characteristics thereof.
Abstract: An improved nailing machine including a reciprocatable plunger for sequentially severing and driving nails from a nailing strip, and a reciprocatable piston for advancing and retracting the plunger. The machine includes a unique reciprocatable control valve actuating and nail guide means which serves both to set a control trigger for activating the reciprocatable plunger, and to properly align a nail with a workpiece as the nail is driven into the workpiece, while at the same time maintaining the nailing strip in a fixed position to prevent contact between the driven nail and the next nail to be severed from the nailing strip. The machine further includes a magazine having retractable nailing strip advancing means which positively moves a nailing strip along the runway of the magazine, and which, in its retracted position, enables a nailing strip to be easily and readily inserted into or removed from the magazine of the machine.
