  • Patent number: 5569257
Abstract: The saw blade has a non-cutting blade area (2), whose thickness D is smaller than the width of cut S of its cutting area (4). The non-cutting blade area (2) has on either side a thin surface coating (11) of a relatively soft and biologically neutral precious metal. This leads to much better cutting characteristics and to reduced friction. The saw blade is particularly suitable for bone surgery.

  • Patent number: 5564967
Abstract: Sharpening the cutting edge of a chipper knife having a chip-breaking shoulder in its underside remote from the cutting edge apex which is integral with the chipper knife is effected by removing a layer of material of uniform thickness from the underside of the cutting edge and thereby removing the bluntness of a dulled cutting edge and forming a resharpened cutting edge having the same wedge angle as the cutting edge prior to resharpening.

  • Patent number: 5559370
Abstract: The memory device according to the invention has a rigid metallic part (1) ensuring a mechanical and electrical connection with a reading system. It incorporates an integrated EEPROM circuit with reading/writing by a power supply located internally of a hollow contact connected to the first power supply terminal of the IC and serving as a protective case. Everything is installed on a support (3) fixed in a slot (2) of the metallic part (1), which is connected to the second power supply terminal of the IC. It is possible to install several IC's in the same metallic part, so as to produce a multifunction device.

  • Patent number: 5541396
Abstract: A method for graphically representing binary data in a condensed, machine-readable form, includes forming a pattern of information-carrying frame and synchronization lines defining a geometric reference system which forms boundaries of one or more data fields. The reference system carries machine-readable marks such as a bar code identifying the pattern as a data-field reference system and providing orientation and other information. The reference system also includes synchronization lines forming boundaries of each data field and providing a location reference. Within the reference system the data field has dot locations functioning as data-transmission elements. Each location has or lacks a mark, representing a "1" or "0" binary bit. Each data element location has a known geometric relationship to the synchronization lines of the reference system so that coordinates of each individual mark can be determined precisely.

  • Patent number: 5538054
Abstract: Rotary beverage receptacle-filling apparatus for transparent receptacles has a plurality of receptacle sites spaced apart at its periphery with filling components with electrically driven controls controlling the flow of beverage. Stationary video cameras next to the apparatus measure the filling level in the receptacles near a level limit and to produce closing signals to the flow controls of those receptacle sites at which a receptacle reaches a limit level leading to the desired nominal level, if necessary taking into account any post-flow. One video camera covering several receptacle sites is provided as the measuring device and is connected to an image analyzer driving all controls.

  • Patent number: 5530763
Abstract: A hearing aid has a skeleton, with an outer support element (3), an inner support element (4) and a connecting element (5), on which are arranged at least part of the electronic components (41, 42) of the hearing aid. The two support elements essentially form the end faces (IS, AS) of an irregular frustum. To the support elements is fixed a diaphragm (2) in such a way that it essentially forms the circumferential surface of the frustum. The diaphragm (2) and the skeleton (3, 4, 5) together form a substantially tubular molding cavity, in which a shaped member (1) adapted to the individual auditory canal is molded with a hardening molding compound in the ear of the user. Prior to the molding process the skeleton can be roughly adapted to the individual auditory canal by a suitable deformation of the connecting element (5). The diaphragm (2) is not only gas-permeable and liquid-impermeable at right angles to its main surface.

  • Patent number: 5528649
Abstract: The calibration method consists in measuring the efficiency D of a detector cell placed behind the object as a function of various phantom thicknesses E.sub.p and various X-ray tube supply voltages V.sub.m. These measurements enable an analytic model D=f(V.sub.m, E.sub.p) to be determined describing the resulting curves. The inverse function of this analytic model can be used for calculating thickness E.sub.p as a function of the measured efficiency D and the known supply voltage V.sub.m.

  • Patent number: 5520604
Abstract: The folded edges (F) of paper products (P), such as newspapers and magazines, are creased in accordance with the process of the invention, in that at least one pair of creasing tools (W. 1, W.2) act at a creasing point from either side against the folded edge and the creasing point is moved along the folded edge (F) by a relative movement between the product (P) and at least one of the creasing tools. The facing creasing surfaces of the creasing tools (W.1, W.2) are advantageously designed and arranged in such a way that the folded edge is curved at the creasing point, which is achieved in that a perpendicular on the creasing surfaces forms an acute angle at the creasing point with the movement direction (B) of the latter. The creasing tools can also be pressed against one another with a pressing force. During the creasing process the product must be held by holding means. The latter simultaneously serve as conveying means, e.g.

  • Patent number: 5520636
Abstract: A device for flushing the urinary bladder (1) has an instrument inserted from the outside into the inside of the bladder and a feed line (17a, 17b, 10) from a supply receptacle (16) feeding pressurized flushing liquid and a drain line (11, 15) to a drain. The interior bladder fluid pressure is regulated by a pressure regulator connected through the feed line to the bladder. The regulator is held at constant height. The pressure regulator has a valve (31, 32) controlling the flow cross-section which is in turn controlled by the pressure sensor (27) located on the side of the valve facing the bladder and ascertaining the pressure in the feed line (17b, 10). The feed conduit between the regulator and the bladder has a constant flow resistance smaller than the minimum possible flow resistance of the drain conduit multiplied by a maximum pressure variation P.sub.Fmax and divided by a maximum allowable bladder pressure P.sub.Bmax.

  • Patent number: 5517803
Abstract: Tubular packs (P) are produced by winding a scale flow formation (1) of printed products on a mandrel, enveloping the roll with a protective and holding element (3) and removing the pack from the mandrel. In the interior of the pack (P) an additional product (2) is incorporated such that it can be removed from the finished pack regardless of the character of the pack without opening the protective and holding element (3) or without removing products of the scale flow formation (1). This is achieved by associating the additional product (2) to the scale flow formation to be wound in a position relative to the leading edge of the scale flow formation, which position is dependent on the stiffness and the length of the additional product.

  • Patent number: 5514963
Abstract: A method for monitoring an area of the surface of the earth uses measurement probes arranged in a grid for determining the self-potential with respect to a base probe. The measurement probes are interrogated repeatedly. The earth resistance between measurement probes and the base probe is also measured repeatedly between measurements of self-potential. Potentials on the surface of an area of the earth can be determined precisely, independently of earth-resistance changes.

  • Patent number: 5496254
Abstract: A lab centrifuge with a rotor carrying vessel supports and a motor with a vertical shaft driving said rotor into rotation, the stator associated with said rotor being supported by elastic supports on a centrifuge base. A shutoff device controls the motor which it shuts off in response to a signal generated by a component affixed to the stator and a component affixed to the base when the stator deviation taking place is found to exceed or match the maximum admissible threshold imbalance. One of the two components is a field generator generating a constant field and the other component is a field intensity detector connected to an analyzer which, upon limit changes in field intensity caused by the deviation, implements shutoff.
