  • Patent number: 5409466
Abstract: A transdermal injection appliance has a pad impregnated with a disinfectant solution such as alcohol, a body with adhesive for holding the pad against the skin of a patient, and a sleeve with a guide passage through the body for guiding an injection needle. A membrane puncturable by the needle is attached to the sleeve to close the passage, the membrane being self-sealing so that an opening through the membrane formed by the needle is closed as soon as the needle is extracted, thereby wiping a majority of blood from the needle and preventing the escape of blood. The tubular sleeve can have an outer end with a coupling for connection to a retractable needle injection assembly. A method of using the appliance with the retractable needle assembly to administer medication without exposing the health care giver to accidental contact with the needle is also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 5400696
Abstract: The invention relates to a drive, particularly a push and pull drive, which has a cylinder with a cylinder inner chamber (Z) and a cylinder axis (F) and a piston movably arranged in the cylinder and to which is fixed a flexible force transfer means (U). For a double-action drive the cylinder inner chamber (Z) or the piston must have a larger cross-sectional surface than the force transfer means (U). In order that, despite this, the cylinder wall can serve as a guidance means for the flexible force transfer means, either the cylinder inner chamber or the force transfer means has a non-circular cross-section, so that on a cross-section there are at least two points (A1 to A3), on which the cylinder inner wall can guide the force transfer means.

  • Patent number: 5398883
Abstract: Printed products, which are obtained as a scale formation from a processing stage (10), are intermediately stored and rearranged in such a way that they can again be supplied for further processing to a processing stage (20) as a scale formation, which can have a different number of scale flows, different speeds and a different sequence of different printed products. The method takes place in three method zones. In the first method zone (1), which is connected to the processing stages (10 and 20), the scale flows (S) are wound onto roll cores (WK) or rolls (W) are unwound into scale flows (S). In the second method zone (2), the rolls (W) and cores (WK) are transported between the storage station and the winding station and storage units (horizontal roll pairs (WP) and core flanges (R)) are formed and dismantled. In the third method zone (3) the storage units (WP, R) are introduced to and removed from a store.

  • Patent number: 5394974
Abstract: Buffer storage of printed products conveyed in scale formation on a conveyor belt (10) is brought about by buffer device (12.1, 12.2, 12.3 etc.), running in a conveying section with a speed which is lower than the speed of the conveyor belt (10) and having a fixed reciprocal spacing and are switched by the printed products to be buffer stored into a state in which they decelerate the printed products and set same to the spacing of the buffer devices. The number of buffer devices on the conveying section is constant and the number of active buffer devices is a function of the number of printed products located on the conveying section provided for buffer storage. The buffer devices can be brake claws, which are arranged centrally between two parallel conveyor belts on a drag chain in such a way that in a lowered, inactive state they are lowered below the conveying surface of the belts, but in their non-lowered, active state project at least partly above the conveying plane.

  • Patent number: 5387305
Abstract: The process for the production of a thermoelectrically weldable zone in thermoplastic materials is significantly improved by the true-to-size, air-free embedding of the heating conductor at a clearly defined depth below the joining surface. For this purpose in a first process step a sublevel wire bed bottom is cut in the material, in which is cut a substantially inverted T-shaped incision, running in two planes and at the desired depth, measured from the material surface and, following the surface profile, the cut is passed along the heating conductor insertion line. Using the same tool the cover strips formed are raised and stretched along the path of cut, so that an open channel is formed with the sublevel wire bed bottom. Preferably in the same operation the wire bed is also cut true-to-size with a cutting tool and corresponding to the heating conductor. In a later process step the heating conductor is placed through the still open channel, the cover strips are pressed and then melted.

  • Patent number: 5384006
Abstract: Labeling equipment has a support rotatably driven about a central shaft and above a stationary bench, the support carrying label shafts pivoted by gear assemblies so that curved label plates on the label shafts are glue-coated over their full area by rolling off a glue roller when the support is rotating, removing labels from a label box and transferring the labels to a label transfer device. The gear assemblies each have a gear segment pivotably resting on a gear assembly shaft borne in the support and meshing with a pinion of the label shaft, the gear segment being pivotably driven by a cam follower moving along a cam curve in the bench. Clutches are coupled in a predetermined angular position of the support to disengage individual label plates from their constrained motion to block label removal. The cam follower is carried by a pivoting arm on the gear assembly shaft, the arm being engageable by means of a clutch with the gear segment.

  • Patent number: 5379963
Abstract: Product to be removed from winding stations (full rolls from winding-up stations, roll cores from winding-off stations) are deposited by a manipulation/transportation device on a transfer mechanism (20.1) and are transported from there with a manipulation/transportation vehicle (30) to a storage location. Product to be introduced at the winding stations (empty roll cores for the winding-up station, full rolls for the winding-off station) are transported by the same manipulation/transportation vehicle (30) from a storage location to the transfer mechanism and are deposited there and are introduced at the winding station by the manipulation/transportation device. The transfer mechanism (20.1) is designed in such a way that the manipulation/transportation vehicle (30) can deposit the product to be introduced from a single position and can take up the product to be removed. Between the two operations it is merely necessary for the manipulation tool to perform a single translatory movement.

  • Patent number: 5378314
Abstract: A method for producing aligned passages through substrate materials, in which the projection of the inlet and outlet openings does not coincide, uses displaced application of etching windows on opposite sides and corresponding pronounced under-etching of these windows. By applying displaced etching windows on both sides of the substrate and through-etching the substrate through these windows, `oblique` passages are obtained through the substrate. By a suitable location of the windows it is also possible to produce branched passages with more than one outlet opening.
