  • Patent number: 4154430
Abstract: The invention is an improved method for electrical grounding of plastics coated chain link fabric that is usually used for fences or similar enclosures. The invention provides a method for grounding by employing an insulating coating containing conductive particles to form a continuous linkage or electrical path through and between all wires that compose the fabric. The said fabric, after said continuous linkage or electrical path is established, is then grounded at various intervals along the length of the fence or enclosure and thus effectively electrically grounds the fabric.

  • Patent number: 4154429
Abstract: The invention is an improved method for the electrical grounding of insulation coated chain link fabric that is usually used for fences or similar enclosures. The invention provides a continuous wire at the top or bottom, or both, edges of the erected fabric that electrically connects each of the insulation coated wires which make up the fabric. The continuous wire is then grounded at intervals along the length of the fence or enclosure and thus effectively electrically grounds the fabric. Numerous variations in the configuration of the wire are included in the embodiments for accomplishing the grounding.

  • Patent number: 4137599
Abstract: The invention generally relates to cleaning of carpets, upholstery and the like by "wet" processes such as the hot water extraction process. In particular, the invention provides an improved method and apparatus for cleaning surfaces comprised of fabric or fabric-like material wherein a cleaning liquid is sprayed over the surface immediately prior to subjecting said surface to suction, such as by a vacuum apparatus. The apparatus is provided with a cleaning head having a vacuum motor mounted thereon to increase the vacuum being pulled at the inlet to the cleaning head, a certain vacuum level being usually pulled by vacuum apparatus in a mobile tank remote from the cleaning head. Sediment-laden liquid pulled into the cleaning head is channeled to the remote mobile tank while only air is pulled through the vacuum motor mounted on the cleaning head.

  • Patent number: 4138220
Abstract: Method and apparatus for catalytically oxidating grease, fats, oils and/or other hydrocarbons in fumes rising from a source thereof. In particular, grease and odor-laden air streams, i.e. hydrocarbon-laden air streams, emanating from a source such as a cooking grill or the like are heated to a temperature at which passage over a catalyst causes flameless oxidation of the organic material in the air stream at a temperature below combustion temperature, the organic material being converted essentially to carbon dioxide and water, with release of at least some heat energy. The oxidized and heated air stream is ducted in countercurrent relation or in identically parallel direction, to the relatively cooler hydrocarbon-laden air stream which is being ducted toward the catalyst, heat exchange from the oxidized air stream to the hydrocarbon-laden air stream thereby occurring to at least partially heat the hydrocarbon-laden air stream.

  • Patent number: 4131895
Abstract: A method and preferred apparatus for introducing radio frequency isolation near the base of a conductive tower to prevent significant flow of RF current into the ground, thereby to produce an elevated vertical antenna. The invention further relates to a method and apparatus for introducing RF power into the upper portion of the isolated tower to cause said portion to radiate or receive at desired frequencies. Isolation and "excitation" are accomplished by the placement of tuned shortened quarter wave conductive sections along selected portions of the tower, the quarter wave sections used for antenna excitation being also used for impedance transformation to match a coaxial transmission line of nominal inmpedance.

  • Patent number: 4130641
Abstract: The present invention relates to the induction of interferon production in the cells of living organisms, including human beings. According to the invention, nucleic acid complexes, such as the polyriboinosinate and polycytidylate complex (rI.sub.n .multidot.rC.sub.n), are modified to yield unpaired bases, (uracil or guanine) along the polycytidylate strand which render the complexes more readily hydrolyzable by nucleases present in living cells. The modified complexes retain their ability to stimulate interferon release by the cells but are rendered more vulnerable to destruction within the cells, the modified complexes being significantly less toxic than the original complexes. In addition, polyinosinate strand now has been prepared to contain 5-16% 2'-O-methyl inosinate residues, designated as (rI.sub.5-20, 2'-MeI).sub.n. The new complex (rI.sub.5-20, 2'-MeI).sub.n .multidot.rC.sub.n, exhibits 100-fold more activity than rI.sub.n .multidot.rC.sub.n as an interferon inducer in human cells.

  • Patent number: 4124794
Abstract: An improved electrical heater using a vacuum surrounding the heating element instead of the usual gaseous or liquid medium for transfer of the heat to external means of dissipation. The heating element, enclosed and sealed in a surrounding encasement which has been evacuated after being sealed, transmits its heat across the vacuum by radiation to the encasement and thence to a series of fins as the means of external dissipation. The heater thereby improves the efficiency of the utilization of the electrical energy used to supply the heat source. The heat dissipating fins are provided with integral spacer lips and are secured on the surrounding encasement by end plates which are formed with downwardly extending portions forming feet on which to stand the heater.
