  • Patent number: 4453732
Abstract: The invention is an improved vehicle for the transport and care of patients, particularly incontinent patients. The vehicle combines the facility of a wheel chair and a bed-like transport vehicle, such as a mobile stretcher. The vehicle is particularly useful in providing care for incontinent patients who also are difficult to move when providing the care. The basic vehicle resembles a wheel chair which can be conveniently modified, without first moving the patient, into a bed-like facility. In making the modification the vehicle has a collapsible support device as the back portion of the basic wheel chair is lowered to form the bed-like configuration. The vehicle also serves as a temporary rest facility for wheel chair patients who are difficult to move from the wheel-chair to a normal bed facility. The vehicle thus facilitates one attendant care of a patient.

  • Patent number: 4449675
Abstract: The invention is an improved system for rewinding fabric, particularly such fabrics which are more or less impervious and tend to entrap air between successive layers of the fabric being wrapped upon a core means as the rewinding proceeds. The system may be operated in a horizontal rolling mode or in a vertical rolling mode. When operating in the horizontal mode the system utilizes the weight of the supply roll to directly maintain more or less air-free layers, alternatively a minimum mechanical pressure is maintained at the supply roll in the horizontal mode as the weight of the supply roll diminishes near the end of the supply. When operating in the vertical mode, the pressure means is reversed, utilizing a constant mechanical pressure of the roll, or rolls, being wrapped against the supply roll as the rewinding proceeds.

  • Patent number: 4448312
Abstract: This invention is an improved holder for food, and in particular for dispensing slices of bread from a loaf. The holder positions the loaf of bread vertically, on one end, so that slices may be dispensed from the top, the user taking the slices from the exposed top end as the loaf is positioned vertically on end. The slices of the loaf may be completely unwrapped or may be left in the wrapper with the top end opened. A plurality of the holders may be assembled and affixed to each other, thus permitting a plurality of different breads or several loaves of like bread to be positioned for dispensing at the same time. An additional unit to hold condiments may also be affixed to a vertical bread holder unit or a plurality of the holders. Each unit has a base and a plurality of vertical retainers to hold the loaf of bread vertical. A connector piece connects and affixes holder units to each other when several units are used concurrently.

  • Patent number: 4416639
Abstract: This invention is an improved dinghy for tending yachts and for similar purposes. The use and operation of dinghies usually entails various problems. In the prior art the managing of the loading of passengers and of gear, and at the same time maintaining a good rowing trim, has had numerous problems. The fixed oarlock sockets of the prior art have precluded efficient seating of passengers and the loading of gear, generally resulting in a poor rowing trim. At the same time, dinghies of the prior art have had less than an adequate bouyancy to enable the vessel to remain afloat in the event of a capsize. The present invention provides an adjustable oarlock device that improves the management of the loading of passengers and gear in a manner that results in an improved rowing trim. The dinghy is provided with a flotation collar, or pneumatic sponson, that provides positive bouyancy. The collar also adds stability by providing a righting moment when submerged, thus improving the safety characteristics.

  • Patent number: 4411109
Abstract: The invention is an improved awning for installation at portable or fixed buildings, including mobile type buildings. The awning is of the rigid type and is provided with a member for affixing to the building which it serves. The invention provides a unique channel-like member for affixing the inboard side of the awning to a building structure; the channel-like member serving as in the inboard side main structural member of the awning. A plurality of uniquely shaped main beams extend from the channel-like member to an outboard member of a flanged channel-like configuration. Pan-like members are fitted between each pair of adjacent main beams to form the roof proper of the awning. The fitting of the pan-like members into the unique shape of the main beams provides a beam-braced awning structure that is very rigid. The outboard ends of the main beams are affixed to the flanged channel-like outboard member, which is suitably supported by columns or posts.

  • Patent number: 4408455
Abstract: The invention is an improvement in the economical generation of energy by providing a system for utilizing the wave action of bodies of water, such as ocean waves. The system consists of a pair of floating units, each separately connected to a shaft member by a connecting arm, a ratchet-like gear affixed to the shaft member is indexed forward alternately or concurrently by spring loaded pawls affixed to each of the connecting arms from the floating units to the shaft members. The wave action alternately raising and lowering the floating units concurrently turns the ratchet-like gear through the action of the pawls. Thus, the turning shaft, properly geared can turn an electric generator, air compressor, or other device of generating another form of energy which can be used or stored for future use.
