    Abstract: A structurally toughened heat resistant adhesive composition comprising a solution of polyisoprene elastomer in polymerizable acrylate ester monomers. The adhesive composition also contains an adhesion promoter, a cross-linking agent, a free-radical generator and a free-radical accelerator. The adhesive compositions are generally used as two-part systems, and yield bonds with improved heat and solvent resistant properties. The polymerizable acrylate ester monomers may be monofunctional or a combination of mono- and polyfunctional monomers. Among the useful classes of monomers are alkyl and cycloalkyl acrylates, alkyl and cycloalkyl methacrylates, alkoxy acrylates and methacrylates, alkylene diacrylates and dimethacrylates. A few of the preferred monomers are methyl methacrylate, lauryl methacrylate, isobornyl methacrylate, and tetrahydrofurfuryl methacrylate.

The polymerizable coating system is a one component system comprising at least one urethane-acrylate or methacrylate, an allyl-group containing acrylate or methacrylate monomer, a non-allylic acrylate or methacrylate diluent, a polymerization initiator of the photoinitiator type, and a metal drier. The coating system is UV curable, and also possesses an additional cure mechanism.

    Abstract: Disclosed are cyanoacrylate adhesive compositions containing elastomeric polymers as fillers. Preferred fillers are the acrylic rubbers. Filler concentration range from about 0.5-40% by weight of the composition. Beneficial results include improved toughness of the cured compositions, as measured by impact, peel and tensile strength properties, particularly after exposure elevated temperatures which would ordinarily severely degrade the adhesive strength.

    Abstract: Disclosed are cure-to-elastomer compositions comprising: (A) a moderate-to-long chain di or polyfunctional prepolymer having vinyl reactive ends, (B) a cross-link controlling material which is (i) reactive with said moderate-to-long chain di or polyfunctional prepolymer, and (ii) soluble in or miscible with the moderate-to-long chain prepolymer; and (C) a free radical polymerization initiator. The polymerizable compositions of the present invention can be rapidly cured at room or moderate temperature to produce elastomeric materials of high flexibility and appropriate tensile strength.

    Abstract: This invention relates to a preapplied adhesive coating which can be deposited onto parts (e.g., nuts and bolts, slip-fitted tubing, or flanges), and left for long periods of time prior to use. The preapplied adhesive coating is dry to the touch, yet when the parts are assembled, the composition will cure between the parts, sealing and bonding them. The composition is comprised of a polymerizable monomer, a binder system, an initiator, and an accelerator of polymerization. The binder system is comprised of a copolymer of an anhydride and a compound selected from the group consisting of arylenes, alkylenes, alkarylenes, aralkylenes, alkoxyalkylenes, alkoxyarylenes, aryloxyalkylenes, and aryloxyarylenes.This invention also concerns an article, particularly threaded fasteners and the like, which is coated with the preapplied adhesive coating.
