Patent number: 4129419Abstract: A disposable laboratory device for transfer of fluids, such as biological fluids or reagents, to specific wells of a centrifugal analyzer head. The device itself is a disposable, multi-compartmental system within an arcuately extending enclosure. In the preferred embodiment, the enclosure extends in a circular arc of approximately 120.degree., whereby one-third of the wells arranged around a circular centrifugal analyzer head can be filled with a single manipulation. Each of the compartments is preferably trapezoidal in plan view, with a bottom surface that includes an outlet means for each compartment proximate radially innermost portions of the enclosure. Equal volumes of pressurized gas distributed to each of the compartments exactly dispense equal volumes from each of the compartments into wells in a circular analyzer head which is held in a registration position.Type: GrantFiled: April 14, 1978Date of Patent: December 12, 1978Assignee: Jocelyn DicksonInventor: William J. Patent number: 4117964Abstract: A car top carrier assembly which is characterized by a light weight carrier container with an overall rectangular solid configuration, having its edges and corners radiused between all intersections of planar surfaces. The container has no internal frame, but rather the frame itself is comprised of a horizontal deck member, vertical corner support members, and horizontal edge supports, with the planar top and side portions being simple rectangular pieces of sheet material which are flangedly connected onto the corner and edge supports to define the overall container. The car top carrier is mounted upon a car top through a pair of contracting support tubes, which exert a contractive force proximate the edges of a car top, while inherently locating the superposed container in a fixed position as a consequence of the engaging step.Type: GrantFiled: June 30, 1977Date of Patent: October 3, 1978Assignee: U-Haul International, Inc.Inventors: Howard M. Patent number: 4104960Abstract: A recycle paper collection receptacle device comprising a longitudinally extending shelter, with a superposed roof structure and removal access doors to protect newspapers deposited within bays that are aligned on both sides of a center partition. The present invention is an improved form of receptacle for newspapers, in that it is manifestly well suited for use in a public place, with protection against the elements and inadvertent loss of newspapers by wind and other causes. An additional feature of the present invention is the use of an arcuate slotted channel defined by a metal tube which extends inwardly from a point on each bay which is exposed even when the doors are mounted upon side partitions between adjacent bays. The arcuate slotted channel is a metal tube which allows an operator to bale the collected newspapers even with the doors in place, and without need for access to the rear of the collected newspaper pile.Type: GrantFiled: August 15, 1977Date of Patent: August 8, 1978Inventor: W. Patent number: 4086060Abstract: A manipulative laboratory device for transferring biological fluid from one or more primary containers to an associated secondary set of containers through a disposable closed compartment system. The compartment system allows for greatly simplified decanting procedures, for example, in pouring off serum samples in blood analyses. The transfer device is preferably of transparent plastic material, and allows for complete isolation among respective samples and selective transfer of controlled volumes of biological fluid when combined with a pump, through means to apply equal volumes of pressurized gas to each of the compartments. The transfer device allows, serum, for example, to be held and filtered during transfer, while maintaining the serum within a closed compartment to reduce the risk of hepatitis and similar infectious transmissions to operating personnel.Type: GrantFiled: October 22, 1976Date of Patent: April 25, 1978Assignee: Jocelyn DicksonInventor: William J. Patent number: 4083305Abstract: Mild detonating cord confinement, particularly of the type including a me covered mild detonating fuse as an inner core. The invention is directed to reducing cord diameter and weight, while totally confining explosive effects. The reduction in weight and diameter is achieved by employing a plurality of different coverings for the mild detonating fuse inner core, notably an extruded plastic jacket, a plurality of plastic fiber overbraid coverings and a stainless steel overbraid encircling the plastic fiber as an overbraid. A foamed polyethylene may be employed as the extruded plastic jacket.Type: GrantFiled: April 28, 1976Date of Patent: April 11, 1978Assignee: Teledyne McCormick Selph, an operating division of Teledyne Ind. Patent number: 4082387Abstract: A vehicle console for mounting and enclosing radios and the like characterized by a box-like enclosure having a frontwardly facing access opening that is coverable by an access door. The access door is lockable, and outwardly pivotable so that a radio and the like, having frontwardly presented control panels, may be easily adjusted when the door is downwardly opened. The box-like enclosure is pivotable with respect to a bracket that is adapted to be mounted upon an vehicle surface. To ensure secure anti-theft mounting of the bracket to a vehicle surface, square aperture holes are provided in a downwardly disposed flange of the bracket so that the carriage head bolts may be downwardly inserted therethrough, thereby rendering it impossible to remove the mounting bolts from above.Type: GrantFiled: August 19, 1976Date of Patent: April 4, 1978Inventor: Thomas R. Patent number: 4080902Abstract: An ignition device in the form of a linear member which has an internal linear propagation characteristic of a detonation, but a radial heat and gas evolution characteristic of a very fast deflagrating pyrotechnic material not accompanied by a shock or detonation wave. The device uses a central core containing an encapsulated explosive with a surrounding layer, or discrete layers, of a metal-clad pyrotechnic material that is significantly characterized by a class of compounds that are specific simple decahydrodecaborate salts containing the common anion B.sub.10 H.sub.10.sup.-2. The outer cladding materials themselves do not functionally ensure a radial deflagration; rather the specific pyrotechnic materials employed ensure a radial deflagration. There are taught specific relationships for components, and a necessary radial compaction.Type: GrantFiled: November 4, 1976Date of Patent: March 28, 1978Assignee: Teledyne McCormick SelphInventors: Terrence P.
