  • Patent number: 5729109
Abstract: A navigation system and a voice guidance method for carrying out a voice guidance of an intersection on a drive route when the user demands the voice guidance while a motor vehicle is running according to a preset drive route. In response to the output demand of the guidance information through an inputting unit, a control unit obtains a distance to the intersection and an advancing direction in the intersection and further reads out the corresponding sound data from a sound storing unit. This sound data is outputted through a speech synthesizing unit and a voice outputting unit.

  • Patent number: 5727520
Abstract: In order to optimize combustion in a four-stroke spark-ignition engine with direct fuel injection, the conditions of charge flow are improved by providing the top surface of each piston with an essentially U-shaped guiding rib, which is open towards the exhaust side of the combustion chamber, fuel injection taking place into the concave area inside the guiding rib. The nozzle opening of the fuel injection device as well as the ignition source are positioned in the area of the cylinder center, i.e., preferably on different sides of the longitudinal center plane of the engine.

  • Patent number: 5724878
Abstract: In a hydraulic operating mechanism for a convertible top, a pressure sensor (12) is incorporated into a common pressure circuit (P) of the hydraulic cylinders (1 through 4) and connected with a control unit which is connected to the switching elements (V1 through V4) of the hydraulic cylinders (1 through 4), and its output signal in relation to time, together with the preset switching sequences of the individual switching elements (V1 through V4), serves to control the end positions of the individual hydraulic cylinders (1 through 4). The control can thus be incorporated in the operating mechanism without expensive separate end position switches at each hydraulic cylinder (1 through 4) or appurtenant actuation element, simplifying the overall design.

  • Patent number: 5727090
Abstract: The invention implements a run-length file format with improved space-sav qualities. The file starts with a header in ASCII format and includes information such as the file format, maximum X and Y values, and a color palette. The binary raster data include at least one byte for each pixel run to indicate the color selected from the color palette and the run length. Concatenation flags demarcate groups of bytes. According to a first embodiment, each run is indicated by a variable-length sequence of bytes with the color in a fixed-length field and the repeat number in a variable-length field. According to a second embodiment, the color and run length are given in separate byte strings, each having a variable length. The file also includes line offset pointers to permit navigation of the file without decompressing it and thus to facilitate operations such as panning and zooming.

  • Patent number: 5722152
Abstract: In assembling a stator being divided into a pole portion and a yoke portion and provided with a winding on the insulated pole portion, the yoke portion is forcibly enlarged outwardly, whereafter the tip ends of the projections of the pole portion are fitted in the recesses of the yoke portion. The two opposing surfaces of each recess are made parallel to each other and the bottom surface of the recess is made parallel to the outer peripheral surface of the yoke portion. The thickness of a portion existing between the bottom surface and the outer peripheral surface is not exceeding 3% of the diameter of the yoke portion and is not less than the thickness of an iron plate of the laminated iron core, whereby the press-fitting load applied when the pole portion is fitted into the yoke portion enlarged is reduced. Thus, even a large-sized stator iron core can readily be assembled and an electric motor of improved properties and enhanced output obtained.
