  • Patent number: 6137112
Abstract: An ion implanter including a time of flight energy measurement apparatus for measuring and controlling the energy of an ion beam includes an ion source for generating the ion beam, an ion acceleration assembly for accelerating the beam resulting in the beam comprising a series of ion pulses having a predetermined frequency and beam forming and directing structure for directing the ion beam at workpieces supported in an implantation chamber of the implanter. The time of flight energy measurement apparatus includes spaced apart first and second sensors, timing circuitry and conversion circuitry. The time of flight energy measurement apparatus measures an average kinetic energy of an ion included in a selected ion pulse of the ion beam. The first sensor and a second sensor are disposed adjacent the ion beam and spaced a predetermined distance apart, the second sensor being downstream of the first sensor.

  • Patent number: 6133895
Abstract: A liquid crystal display including driver circuitry which applies a series of voltage pulses at a frequency of approximately 60 Hz. to cumulatively change a reflectance state of a pixel in an array of pixels at a near video updating rate. The display includes a near video rate updating portion, while the remainder of the display has a slower updating frequency or rate. The display is comprised of a bistable cholesteric liquid crystal material sandwiched between an electrode array having a plurality of row and column electrodes. In one operating embodiment, the driver circuitry generates a unipolar row and column waveforms, the row waveforms being applied to the row electrodes and the column waveforms being applied to the column electrodes of the near video rate updating portion. Approximately every 16 milliseconds, a pixel in the near video rate updating portion receives a control voltage pulse corresponding to the difference between the row and column waveforms.

  • Patent number: 6123263
Abstract: A portable data collection device having a modular imaging-based dataform reader. The dataform reader includes a two dimensional imaging assembly adapted to image and decode a dataform printed using ink that fluoresces when illuminated by ultraviolet light. The imaging assembly includes a two dimensional photosensor array and is actuatable to generate a signal representative of reflected illumination from a target area of the imaging assembly and further includes an illumination assembly having a strobing ultraviolet light source. The illumination assembly includes a pair of flash tube strobe lights which have their output illumination filtered through respective ultraviolet filter thereby permitting only illumination in the ultraviolet range to exit the dataform reader and illuminate the imaging target area. The high intensity, strobing light of the ultraviolet light source permits a reduced exposure period. A targeting illumination assembly is also provided to aid in aiming the device at a target dataform.

  • Patent number: 6120577
Abstract: A process of recovering iron values and separating zinc oxides and other contaminants from steel mill waste metal oxides, such as blast furnace dust, BOF dust, mill scale and oily sludges, characterized by iron metallization levels up to 95% or more and zinc oxide removal in excess of 99%, and including the steps of blending the oxides with coke breeze in an amount sufficient to provide a total carbon content of 16% to 22%, the coke breeze having a particle size of 50% or more plus 60 mesh or larger, briquetting the blend to form briquettes having a thickness ranging from 1/2" to 3/4", and firing the briquettes in a rotary hearth furnace to metallize the iron and evolve zinc and other oxide contaminants.

  • Patent number: 6112609
Abstract: A gear arrangement 10 which comprises a first disc member 12 rotatable about a first axis 14 and carrying rings 16 of teeth 18, the rings 16 being centered on the axis 14 and at respective distances therefrom. A second member 20 is rotatable about a second axis 22 and carries further teeth 24. The second member can move toward and away from the first axis 14. The teeth 18, 24 are so formed as to allow the second teeth 24 to mesh in driving manner with each ring of teeth 18 as the second member 20 moves toward and away from the first axis 14. In this way, the transmission ratio of the gear arrangement can be changed.
