Abstract: A process for purifying a degraded oxime metal extractant organic phase from a metal extraction circuit wherein a degraded oxime metal extractant organic phase comprised of an oxime metal extractant, and aldehyde or ketone degradates in a water immiscible hydrocarbon solvent is reoximated thereby restoring the oxime extractant organic phase for further extraction in the metal extraction circuit. Optionally the degraded organic phase may be purified by distillation prior to reoximation. The distillation is carried out in a wiped film evaporator at temperatures above 180.degree. C. up to about 250.degree. C. at a pressure from about 0.5 mm Hg or lower up to about 10 mm Hg and the reoximation is carried out with hydroxylamine in the presence of a weak organic carboxylic acid as a phase transfer catalyst and in the presence of an alkali metal or alkaline earth metal hydroxide or carbonate, preferably sodium carbonate.

Abstract: Hot-curing, foamable reactive compositions based on natural and/or synthetic rubbers containing olefinic double bonds, vulcanizing agents and blowing agents with a high percentage content of sulfur give foamed rubber compositions exhibiting high structural strength and high volume expansion. These compositions are suitable as multifunctional filling materials for hollow structures or hollow profiles in vehicle or machine construction. At one and the same time, they perform a sealing function, damp acoustic vibration and stiffen the hollow structures to a considerable extent.

Abstract: An aqueous liquid chromate free primary composition for forming a protective coating on metals, particularly aluminum, is made by reacting cobalt(II) cations, carboxylate anions, at least one other type of coordinate complexing agent for cobalt(III) cations, and an oxidizing agent in an aqueous solution in which the molar ratio of carboxylate anions to cobalt(II) cations is from 0.10 to 6.8 and the aqueous solution contains no more than 1% of each of ammonia, ammonium ions, and nitrite ions. The primary layer formed by this or any other composition that forms a coating containing metal atoms and oxygen atoms on a metal substrate is advantageously sealed by further treatment with an aqueous solution of sodium ammonium decavanadate, optionally after an intermediate step of immersing in water for a few minutes between the primary treatment and the sealing treatment.
Abstract: A process for removing dried paint residues from a difficultly accessible surface is provided. The surface is contacted with a slurry of particulate solids such as sodium hydrogen carbonate in a first liquid such as N-methyl pyrrolidone which is a solvent or swellant for the paint residues, followed by a different liquid such as isopropyl alcohol in which the first liquid is soluble (and which may also optionally contain particulate solids).
Abstract: A terpene-free hard surface cleaning composition containing: (a) a nonionic surfactant; (b) an anionic surfactant; (c) a primary solvent consisting of a C.sub.6 -C.sub.14 methyl ester; (d) a short-chain cosurfactant; and (e) water, all weights being based on the total weight of the composition.

Abstract: A coating apparatus is disclosed for applying a coating material on one or more zones of a substrate material. In one embodiment, the coating applicators have fluid-wicking strips that apply the coatings directly to the substrate, while in another embodiment, the fluid-wicking strips indirectly apply the coatings to the substrate via feed rolls. Metering mechanisms supply predetermined amounts of coating material to the fluid-wicking strips. Each coating applicator has a housing with a recess for receiving one the fluid-wicking strips therein. One of the fluid-wicking strips is mounted in each housing which has a plurality of transversely spaced passageways. Each passageway of each applicator housing is fluidly coupled to its own separate air actuated metering mechanism which dispenses coating material to the portion of the fluid-wicking strip adjacent thereto. A desired quantity of coating material is simultaneously delivered via the metering mechanisms to each of the applicator housings.
Abstract: The invention relates to a process for the production of higher dialkyl carbonates corresponding to formula (I):(R.sup.1 O)(R.sup.2 O)CO (I)which R.sup.1 and R.sup.2 may be the same or different and represent a linear or branched, saturated or unsaturated and/or alkoxylated alkyl group, by transesterification of lower dialkyl carbonates with higher alcohols in the presence of a catalyst. The process is characterized in that the transesterification is carried out in a column equipped with packings or internals through which the reactants flow in countercurrent to one another. Predominantly symmetrical dialkyl carbonates are obtained.

Abstract: The invention is an adhesive system for applying wrap around labels to containers. The system comprises a hotmelt pick-up adhesive which is active at the temperature which the label is applied and loses its bonding ability after the adhesive sets and an overlap adhesive for bonding the label overlap. At its application temperature, the pick-up adhesive has significantly higher adhesiveness, measured at its application temperature than at its conventional storage temperature. In addition, the adhesive preferably has a greater affinity for the label than for the container bearing the label. Consequently, the label can be easily removed from the hollow body without leaving residues of adhesive. If, nevertheless, a residual adhesive should remain on the hollow body, it can be dissolved by an alkaline solution.
