Abstract: The invention relates to a method for enhancing the dosing precision of a dosing pump which is driven by an asynchronous motor via an eccentric gear. The supply of the motor is cut off approximately half a cycle time before a desired dosing pause period or stoppage. The motor freewheels afterwards for part of the cycle time, before a direct voltage is applied to it for approximately a quarter cycle time, such that an eddy current is induced in the rotor, which produces an antipolarized magnetic field which brakes the rotor.
Abstract: Novel modified and improved beta-diketones and their use in the extraction of copper from aqueous ammoniacal solutions containing copper values, resulting from commercial processes, including, but not limited to, leaching of copper containing ores, such as sulfidic ores, or concentrates resulting from flotation of such sulfidic ores. The novel diketones are those highly sterically hindered, which may be represented by the formula I or II: ##STR1## The preferred beta-diketones of Formula [II] are selected from the group consisting of neo-alkyl beta-diketones, such as, 1-phenyl-3-neoalkyl-1,3 propanedione in which the neoalkyl group is selected from neohexyl, neoheptyl, neooctyl, neononyl, or neodecyl.

Abstract: A hand-held device for transferring a film from a carrier tape to a substrate includes an applicator with an end projecting from a housing around which the carrier tape coming from a supply roll is guided to a take-up spool and on which contact surfaces are provided for the "pull" and "push" operating modes of the device, the carrier tape being pressed against the substrate by the contact surfaces for the purpose of transferring the film. The applicator contains two application toes which are separated from one another by an empty space and each of which carries one of the two contact surfaces.

Abstract: A process for producing granular detergents, cleaners or components thereof from dust-like solids having a particle size distribution such that at least 5% by weight of the solids have a diameter smaller than 0.1 mm, by placing the solids in a moving mixer and adding water in its vaporous state to the solids whereby the water in its vaporous state forms liquid water in situ on at least part of the solids in an amount of from 0.1% to 2% by weight, based on the weight of the granular detergents, cleaners or components thereof.
Abstract: Titanates and zirconates bearing organic substituents can act as corrosion inhibitors when added to foamable compositions based on thermosettable synthetic resins such as epoxy resins. Combinations of organometallates containing certain specific types of substituents provide synergistic improvements in the properties of structural reinforcement foams obtained by heating and curing the foamable compositions.
Abstract: A composition useful as a sealant in the automotive industry, particularly the paint shop area, is provided which comprises a plastisol, a wax and, optionally, a rheological additive, wherein the amount of wax exceeds the amount of rheological additive on a weight-by-weight basis. The composition will self-level during its application in the automobile assembly at a wide range of temperatures such that a smooth and uniform surface possessing no major imperfections is formed upon cooling of the composition.
Abstract: A capsule is formed from a pre-expanded foam core in a compressed condition with a thermoplastic outer covering completely enveloping the foam core to maintain it in the compressed condition. The outer covering is made of a material capable of softening sufficiently when heated to permit the foam core to expand toward its original expanded uncompressed condition. Preferably, the outer covering adheres to the foam and then is carried by the expanding foam into intimate contact with the inner surface of a hollow structural member so as to form a seal for the hollow structural member.
Abstract: Biscyanoacrylates in solution are prepared by reacting 2-cyanoacrylic acids or their alkyl esters with diols in the presence of sulfonic acids as catalysts. The reaction mixture is processed by substituting an aliphatic solvent for the aromatic solvent and is then subjected twice to fractional crystallization. The thus obtained biscyanoacrylates are very pure. They are therefore useful for producing storage stable cyanoacrylate adhesives. Their admixture increases the thermal resistance of the adhesives, which is particularly important in the case of electric and electronic components.

Abstract: A channel-shaped section has a thin, local reinforcement shell separated from the channel-shaped section by a layer of structural foam. At the reinforced section an arch geometry is utilized which extends in a direction opposite that of the force to which the member is subjected. The arch may be present as the channel-shaped member, the reinforcement shell or both the channel-shaped member and the shell. A portion of the shell contacts the channel-shaped member and is attached thereto by welding or other means of attachment.
Abstract: Epoxy resins, particularly those based on bisphenol A, can constitute the principal film forming polymer component of a storage stable autodepositable composition wherein the particle size distribution of all the film forming polymers in the composition satisfies certain criteria of size distribution, and an accelerator component which is an acid, oxidizing agent or complexing agent is present in amount sufficient to provide an oxidation-reduction potential at least 100 mV more oxidizing than a standard hydrogen electrode. Such dispersions can conveniently be prepared using a two stage process in which a solution of the film forming polymers is emulsified into water to form a preliminary dispersion and this preliminary dispersion is subjected to at least one particle size refinement stage in which the preliminary dispersion is forced through a narrow aperture.
Abstract: Heat-curing, expanding mouldings based on solid polybutadiene rubber and vulcanization systems free from elemental sulfur are distinguished by the following advantageous properties: in the uncured state in which they are supplied, they have minimal rubber-elastic resilience and are readily formable. During the curing process, no unpleasant odors are given off and, after curing, a soft and elastic foam with a continuous outer skin is formed.

Abstract: Aerobically hardening adhesives based on polymers of acrylates or methacrylates having a relatively high boiling point such as polyurethane (meth)acrylates are described, wherein the adhesives contain at least one initiator capable of forming free radicals, at least one accelerator, and at least one siccative. Such adhesives are largely odorless and harden completely such that the adhesive surface at the boundary with air is not tacky.
Abstract: A laminate for reinforcing a structural member having a plurality of side walls comprises a carrier having at least one inclined support surface. Each support surface has an outer edge disposed toward a respective side wall. A layer of extruded uncured structural foam is on each support surface and terminates inwardly of the outer edge. The foam expands when cured and tumbles down the inclined support surface of the carrier to become bonded to the side wall as well as the carrier. By being spaced from the outer edge of the support surface, the tendency for the foam to wipe against the side wall is minimized as is the tendency for a worker to touch the foam when the worker places the carrier into the structural member.
Abstract: The proposed process for bonding together two substrates with an anhydrous or low-water-content partially crystalline adhesive which is solid at room temperature is characterized in that the adhesive is first activated by internal and/or external friction. The substrates are then joined together with the adhesive between them. When allowed to stand, the structure attains its final strength after a period of between a few seconds to a few days. The friction destroys the crystalline structure and causes the adhesive to become gluey, and re-crystallization gives it its final strength and eliminates the gluey quality. The adhesive is based preferably on polyester or polyurethane and used preferably in the form of a gum stick without impermeable packaging. It is especially suitable for bonding paper, since it does not cause corrugation.

Abstract: Proposed is a method of producing alkaline-earth salts of aliphatic .beta.-keto compounds by reacting alkaline-earth hydroxides with aliphatic .beta.-ketoesters and/or .beta.-diketones in the absence of solvent to give the corresponding alkaline-earth salts. Abstract: The invention concerns novel aqueous bleaching agents containing--relative to the agents--between 1.0 and 10.0 wt % alkali hypochlorite, between 0.5 and 1.5 wt % alkali hydroxide, between 0.5 and 2.0 wt % silicates, between 0.01 and 1.0 wt % phosphonic acids and/or phosphonates, and between 0.01 and 1.0 wt % polyacrylic acid compounds as well as optionally other conventional additives and auxiliary materials. The agents can be formulated without turbidity and reliably protect the textiles treated therewith against encrustation and yellowing, even in the presence of water hardness and heavy metal ions.
