Abstract: A composition useful as a casting resin is provided. The composition comprises a polyol, a polyisocyanate, a catalyst, and a suspension aid, and said catalyst and said suspension aid are present in the casting resin in such concentrations that, within 10 minutes of mixing, it flows downwards a) by at least 15 cm at 25.degree. C. and b) by 3 to 0.3 cm at 130.degree. C. The casting resin is particularly useful as a binder for a granular material in the production of open-cell moldings which are permeable to water.

Abstract: An aqueous autodeposition coating composition that is essentially free of chromium compounds and which produces a film with a much better adherence and corrosion resistance than heretofore obtained, but which does so without a rinse treatment with a chromium-containing solution prior to film curing. The aqueous autodeposition coating composition has a pH of about 1.6 to about 5 and contains(i) water-dispersible or water-soluble organic film-forming resin;(ii) at least one of fluoride ions and flouride ions and complex fluoride ions;(iii) ions of at least one metal selected from zinc, cobalt, manganese, nickel, iron, and aluminum; and(iv) tungstate ion and/or molybdate ion.
Abstract: Starting from a mixture containing tocopherol, fats and/or fat derivatives, more particularly fatty acids, and optionally sterol and/or sterol derivatives, the free fatty acids present in the mixture are esterified with an alcohol. The mixture is then transesterified with an alcohol in the presence of a basic catalyst. After the transesterification, the excess lower alcohol is distilled off from the reaction mixture. The transesterification catalyst and the glycerol present, if any, are removed and the fatty acid alkyl ester is distilled off from the mixture. Distillation of fatty acid alkyl esters can be accomplished with a packed column in sequence with a wiped film evaporator. The simultaneous recovery of tocopherol and sterol is possible. Tocopherols and sterols can be separated by the crystallization of sterols from a blend of organic solvents.

Abstract: The use of esters--liquid at room temperature--of C.sub.6-22 fatty acids with monohydric alcohols and/or of C.sub.6-22 fatty alcohols with monocarboxylic acids as solvents for isocyanates and/or isocyanurates is provided. Because the ester reduces the viscosity of the isocyanates and/or isocyanurates, the mixture will be easy to pump and mix with other components prior to curing. Also provided is a process for reducing the viscosity of isocyanates and isocyanurates comprising adding to said isocyanate or isocyanurate one or more esters selected from the group consisting of C.sub.6-22 fatty acids with monohydric alcohols and C.sub.6-22 fatty alcohols with monocarboxylic acids, said esters being a liquid at room temperature.

Abstract: Fatty acid esters of isethionate salts are made by reacting ethylene oxide and a bisulfite salt, that may be made in situ, in aqueous ammonia while maintaining (1) the pH in the range of about 5.5 to about 6.5 and (2) the temperature in the range of 25.degree. C. to 85.degree. C. to form an isethionate salt. The isethionate salt is then esterified with a fatty acid to produce a product having little or no unwanted fatty acid esters of ethylene glycol.

Abstract: Finely ground zeolithic alkali metal aluminum silicates having the general formula: xMe.sub.2 O.Al.sub.2 O.sub.3.ySiO.sub.2.zH.sub.2 O, are prepared by mixing both reaction components, alkali metal silicate and alkali metal aluminate, in the presence of a stoichiometrically excessive amount of alkali metal hydroxide. The thus obtained gel is matured, the reaction mixture is heated up to crystallisation temperature, then crystallised. During crystallisation, at least one of both reaction components is added to the reaction mixture.

Abstract: A chromium-and-ferricyanide non-aqueous cleaner/deoxidizer for aluminum, the cleaner/deoxidizer having an etch rate on titanium that is low enough for practical use in processes where aluminum objects to be deoxidized are held on titanium racks or hangers during the process, combines boric acid, fluoborate anions, and an acid that is stronger than either of boric and fluoboric acids, usually also with an oxidizing agent such as hydrogen peroxide. Rates of etching of aluminum that are at least as much as 50 times the rates of etching of titanium under the same conditions can be achieved, and the deoxidizing of the aluminum is satisfactory for achieving corrosion resistance after subsequent conversion coating of the deoxidized aluminum surface.
Abstract: A process for the production of wetting-, washing- or cleaning-active anionic surfactant salts by reacting inorganic or organic bases with anionic surfactant intermediates containing hydrophilic negatively charged groups attached to hydrophobic hydrocarbon radicals. The salts are combined in a spray which is introduced into an inert gas phase of superheated steam whereby the spray is at least partly dried. In an embodiment of the process, the anionic surfactant intermediates are neutralized during the spraying step to form the salts.
