Abstract: An aqueous alkaline composition for cleaning equipment used in the food industry wherein the composition contains potassium hydroxide or a mixture of potassium hydroxide and sodium hydroxide and wherein the potassium hydroxide is present in an amount of at least 20% by weight, based on the weight of hydroxide present in the composition. A process for regenerating the cleaning solution is also disclosed.
Abstract: Cyanoacrylate adhesive containing a pyrylium salt as a fluorescent dye are useful for bonding various substrates, particularly transparent plastics. The pyrylium salt may be present in relatively large quantities in the adhesive without any adverse effect on the storage stability and adhesive properties, yet shows very little inherent coloration in visible light.

Abstract: The invention is a process for applying a nickel-free, copper-containing phosphate coating to a metal surface by contacting the metal surface with a phosphate solution containing 0.2 to 2.0 g/l zinc ions, 0.5 to 25 mg/l copper ions, and 5-30 g/l phosphate ions.
Abstract: The present invention relates to methods and compositions for reducing corrosion and gassing that occurs within lead-acid storage batteries. In particular, combinations of anodic corrosion inhibitors such as hydrolyzed gelatin and water soluble iodides are preferred inhibitors; and these inhibitors provide excellent results when also used in combination with surfactants which are sodium salts of diphenyl sulfonate. Admixtures of anodic corrosion inhibitors, replace the conventional electrolyte solution within the battery.

Abstract: The invention relates to a cartridge system comprising a tubular cartridge pistol and a cartridge which can be inserted into the cartridge pistol. The outlet end of the cartridge protrudes out of the cartridge pistol when the cartridge is in an inserted position. The cartridge is provided with an attachment piece at the end for attaching an outlet nozzle. The aim of the invention is to improve the cartridge system in such a way that handling during operation of the system is considerably simplified and in particular no additional auxiliary elements are required apart from said cartridge system. To this end, the attachment piece is sealed with a pierceable membrane on the inside, and the outlet nozzle is provided with piercing elements at the attachment end for piercing the membrane. The piercing elements can be engaged with the attachment pierce.

Abstract: Waterborne lubricants comprising: (A) water-soluble inorganic salt; (B) homogeneously dispersed solid lubricant; (C) at least one homogeneously emulsified substance selected from mineral oils, animal and plant oils and fats, and synthetic oils; (D) surfactant; and (E) water, in which the weight ratio (B)/(A) is from 0.05:1 to 2:1 and the weight ratio {C/(A+B)} is from 0.05:1 to 1:1, provide a one-step, highly lubricating waterborne lubricant for use in the cold plastic working of metals. This waterborne lubricant can replace the conversion coating treatment (phosphate, oxalate, etc.)+reactive soap treatment combined lubrication system now in general use and is free of the environmental issues associated with the combined lubrication system, provides for facile coating removal, and is not subject to the decline in seizure resistance caused by nonuniform add-on when large numbers of workpieces are treated together by immersion.
Abstract: A spray-dried amorphous alkali metal silicate compound which provides multiple-cycle washing performance. The silicate compound has a molar ratio of M2O to SiO2 of 1:1.5 to 1:3.3 wherein M represents an alkali metal. The compound contains 0.5 to less than 30% by weight of anionic surfactant and has an absorption capacity for liquid components which is at least 20% higher than that of the same quantity of the alkali metal silicate compound which is free from anionic surfactant.

Abstract: Disclosed are moisture-curing hotmelt adhesives containing polyurethane prepolymers with an isocyanate group content of 0.16-0.84 moles of isocyanate groups per kilogram of prepolymer, the prepolymers being obtained by reacting crystalline polyester polyols having a mean molecular weight of 2,000-10,000, optionally mixed with liquid and/or amorphous polyester and/or polyether polyols having an isocyanate functionality greater than one, the adhesives also containing diisocyanates trimerized to give isocyanurates. Adhesives of this kind have improved processing characteristics and are easier to use.
Abstract: A stiffener is provided for reinforcing a hollow structure having a pair of spaced walls. The stiffener includes a carrier member with a layer of expandable polymer which creates a structural foam when the polymer is later expanded. The stiffener could comprise a single laminate shaped to fit in the appropriate locations of the hollow structure so that when the polymer is expanded it forms a structural foam intimately bonded to the pair of spaced walls. The stiffener may also be in the form of a corrugated frame wherein individual laminates are provided with notches to permit the individual laminates to be interlocked with each other at the notches.
Abstract: A packaging configuration includes a lavatory basket and a refill bottle assembly interconnected for storage, shipping and sale. The refill bottle assembly includes a refill bottle containing a cleaning agent for refilling the container of the lavatory basket during use, and a closure cap for sealing attachment with the outlet of the refill bottle. The lavatory basket includes a container for holding and selectively dispensing the cleaning agent, and a securing element extending therefrom. The container is configured to be releasably attached to a concave upper surface of the closure cap of the refill bottle by means of a projection tab on the closure cap in locking engagement with a corresponding recess in a wall of the container. A releasable connection is provided between the securing element and the refill bottle assembly to further secure the container to the refill bottle assembly.

Abstract: A mixture of two stabilizers, one including benzene rings bearing hydroxyl substituents and the other containing divalent sulfur atoms, is effective in stabilizing tacky polymers that remain solid up to a temperature of at least 160° C. particularly polymers of isobutylene, so that the polymers give long service in the ambient atmosphere as protective layers coated on aluminum substrates and used to line the interiors of paint baking ovens. When accumulated foreign materials accumulate on the coatings, the coating and the accumulated foreign materials can be decomposed to largely volatile products by heating to a temperature substantially higher than the service temperature but not high enough to melt the metal substrate for the coating.
