  • Patent number: 5021306
Abstract: A spiral-wound galvanic cell is based upon a lithium system with a nonaqueous electrolyte, and includes a positive electrode, the carrier of which is clamped within the slit of a simple metal splint which serves as the winding mandrel and current collector. Contact with the metal splint is established by a leaf spring associated with the housing cover, which then serves as the positive terminal post for the cell. A high specific contact pressure is developed at this connection by providing the leaf spring with a punched hole which rests on thicker top portions of the metal splint. A small metal plate pressed through the lithium electrode and its separator establishes electrical contact between the lithium electrode and the interior wall of the housing vessel, which then serves as the negative cell pole.

  • Patent number: 5012225
Abstract: A field-sensitive tag or label incorporates a layer for mechanically deactivating the tag resulting from subsequent use of the article to which the tag has been applied. To this end, a layered tag is provided which, in addition to the layers which are traditionally provided to achieve the function of a resonant circuit (e.g., substrate and etched outer layers), further incorporates a circuit-deactivating layer which preferably takes the form of an abrasive substance disposed in a suitable binder. The resulting layer can then operate to mechanically deactivate the tag by damaging at least a portion of the resonant circuit which comprises the tag due to movement of the article in subsequent use. The field-sensitive tag of the present invention is advantageously applied to footwear in regions where flexure of the tag can be anticipated, preferably in the sole, making the article well suited to placement in a self-service retail setting while maintaining an adequate degree of security.

  • Patent number: 5011131
Abstract: A sorting device includes a plurality of shelves placed one above the other in a frame, each adapted to receive a printing plate in sorted fashion. Located in front of the insertion opening of the shelves is a transport device for moving the printing plates along the shelves, preferably from top to bottom. Between the transport device and the shelves is a sorting carriage which can travel along the shelves and which includes a pivotable flap which operates to deflect the printing plates from the transport device to a desired shelf. To allow the printing plates to be introduced into the shelves, while keeping the shelves placed close together, the shelves are pivotally mounted at their lower edges and the sorting carriage is provided with a tappet for engaging the shelf located above the selected shelf, to lift the upper shelves and thereby enlarge the insertion opening. The arrangement is especially suitable for sorting so-called "flexoplates" and flexible offset plates.

  • Patent number: 4997356
Abstract: A mold for manufacturing a skin covered foamed plastic article in which the middle mold is to be attached to the upper mold so as to eliminate the attaching and removing of the middle mold for every manufacturing cycle, without creating a danger of damaging the manufactured skin covered foamed plastic article in taking it out of the mold. The mold includes a middle mold to be attached to the upper mold such that when the upper mold is lifted upwards in order to be disassembled from the lower mold, the middle mold also moves upwards and the skin covered foamed plastic article is taken out from the lower mold by the upper mold and the middle mold; and a protrusion for making a hole in the skin covered foamed plastic article to be manufactured, to be attached to the molding surface of the lower mold, which is freely detachable from the lower mold such that when the upper mold is disassembled from the lower mold, the protrusion is taken off the lower mold along with the skin covered foamed plastic article.

  • Patent number: 4994333
Abstract: In an acid-type primary cell with a zinc anode containing non-toxic or only little harmful substances, the usual toxic components of the zinc alloy such as mercury and cadmium are replaced by at least one of the elements indium and bismuth, and by at least one of the elements magnesium and lithium. These nonpoisonous substitutes inhibit hydrogen on the zinc and provide a degree of mechanical tensile strength with more conventional zinc anodes. Additionally, a slight amount of lead is alloyed with the zinc anode to maintain ductility during the rolling process and as a supplemental protection against corrosion.

  • Patent number: 4987041
Abstract: Overcharge protection, and especially the chargeability of a sealed Ni/Cd battery with high currents (up to 1 CA) is improved by rolling a carbon-containing powdered material into the surface of the negative electrode, which material catalyzes the reduction of oxygen. Wetting of the electrode with a "Tylose" dispersion prior to application of the powder (by powdering, vibration or in an agitator) improves the adhesion of the powder. The cadmium electrode thus prepared combines in itself the functions of a negative principal electrode and of an auxiliary oxygen electrode.

  • Patent number: 4980146
Abstract: Process for removing sulfur compounds contained in a residual gas with recovery of said compounds in the form of sulfur, wherein a gas obtained from a residual gas containing H.sub.2 S and SO.sub.2 and having a temperature lower than 160.degree. C. is subjected to a catalytic CLAUS reaction phase with deposition of sulfur on the catalyst and periodic regeneration of the sulfur-laden catalyst and cooling of the regenerated catalyst. The gas brought in contact with the CLAUS catalyst is produced by subjecting the residual gas to a hydrogenation and hydrolysis treatment to provide the sulfur compounds in the unique form of H.sub.2 S and to cooling with water separation by condensation and then to catalytic oxidation of H.sub.2 S in CLAUS stoichiometry with cooling of the gas stream obtained from the oxidation step under 160.degree. C. in order to separate the sulfur by condensation. Application to the purification of the residual gases emitted by CLAUS sulfur plants.

  • Patent number: 4978220
Abstract: A compensating system for insepcting potentially warped printed circuit boards provides the insepction head of a printed circuit board inspection apparatus with a compensating device which is capable of detecting deviations in the printed circuit board which depart from a reference standard, for use in accurately compensating for such deviations during the board inspection procedure. An appropriate source (including ultrasonic, laser and directed light sources) is used to direct emissions toward the surface of a printed circuit board to be inspected. Detected reflections are then used to provide information useful in determining deviations of the surface of the printed circuit board from the reference standard, to adjust the anticipated locations for any component features, connecting leads or pins which are to be inspected within the subject viewing field.
