Abstract: A method for producing a transparent light deflecting panel comprising making a series of parallel cuts in a sheet of transparent solid material with a laser cutting tool. Said panel when positioned in an opening in the facade of a building deflects incident daylight towards the ceiling of said building thereby improving the natural lighting within the building.
Abstract: A cervical support to immobilize the cervical vertebral column is in the form of a padded collar enclosing the patient's neck and so designed that individualized immobilization is possible within a limited region of the head, as required in a number of indications, for instance in wear phenomena in the cervical vertebral column zone or in post-operation treatment. For that purpose the invention provides that the cervical support comprise a clearance in its front region with a flexible frame comprising spacers between its upper and lower bounds that can be shifted along the clearance.
Abstract: Agonists and antagonists to nicotine are used as smoking deterrents. The nicotinic antagonists have the following structural requirements:(1) Aromatic, cycloalkyl, and heterocyclic carbamic acid esters of di- and trialkylaminoalkyl alcohols.(2) Aromatic, cycloalkyl, and heterocyclic thiocarbamic acid esters of di- and trialkylaminoalkyl alcohols.(3) Aromatic, cycloalkyl, and heterocyclic carboxylic acid esters of di- and trialkylaminoalkyl alcohols.(4) Aromatic, cycloalkyl, and heterocyclic carboxylic acid esters of heterocyclic amino alcohols.(5) Lobelia alkaloids: lobeline, lobelanine, and lobelanidine. The nicotinic agonists (nicotine-like) have the following structural requirements:(1) methylcarbamic acid esters of di- and trialkylaminoalkyl alcohols.(2) methylthiocarbamic acid esters of di- and trialkylaminoalkyl alcohols.
Abstract: Individual road transport and rail-bound transport are combined with rapid transfer from one transport mode to the other. The transport units for individual traffic are semi-trailer trucks. The load and transported-material bearing semi-trailer are transferred by cross-rolling onto the low-platform railroad car for rail-bound shipping. The tractor-truck serves only as a power plant and supports docking. Thereafter the tractor is again available for other transports in individual traffic. The energy of motion is supplied from the tractor-truck through extensible power or air lines to the semi-trailer and these lines are disconnected following docking. Locks are provided to secure the position of the semi-trailer on the low-platform railroad car and these locks are of the self-service type. Means for anti-tipping are provided at the apron and/or at the low-platform railroad cars to prevent their tipping during load transfer.
Abstract: The instant invention relates to a process in which important improvements are introduced in virus production and inactivation steps, as well as in the vaccine formulation step. The virus is reproduced in animals immuno-depressed through ionizing radiations, thus making it possible to use adult host animals, not naturally sensitive to the virus, with the advantage of using all types of tissues thereof. Bacterial infections are prevented by antibiotic administration. Virus inactivation is also obtained through ionizing radiations. Radiation doses do not affect antigenic properties, as may be noted from the interpretation of the Target Theory.

Abstract: The present invention is concerned with displaying moving objects (targets) wherein two time-shifted object signatures are imaged on a detector. Target scanning is with a prismatic rotating wheel, the periphery of which has a plurality of adjacent, recessed, and oppositely reflecting triplet mirror surfaces which alternately reflect the two signatures onto the detector. The position coordinates of the objects are defined by taking the difference of the detector output signals of the two object signatures. The display is characterized in that the first signature scan is delayed by an intermediate storage so that it shall be simultaneously available with the second signature scan. After taking the difference of the signals of these signature scans, the uncanceled individual signals remaining in the storage are defined as the coordinates of the moving objects and appear as electronic outputs.
Abstract: A combination locking assembly of simplified and robust construction. The combination assembly incorporating easily positionable slide members for setting the combination. The combination assembly also including incremental movement retaining apparatus wherein the locking bar is moved to the unlocked position only when the correct digits are sequentially depressed in the correct order. The combination assembly also allowing multiple use of the same combination digits.
Abstract: Structures for roofs, made of tiles of substantially planar and rectangular configuration or the like, including on one of their smaller edges at least one flange parallel to this edge which prevents displacement of the tiles with respect to the elongated supports on which the tiles rest directly by means of the flanges. A plurality of the supports are distributed one per each horizontal tile row and parallel therebetween, resting on a second plurality of more resistant elongated members. The elongated members are generally spaced from each other a distance larger than the space between the supports, horizontal and parallel as per inclined planes in the direction of the roof slope. Each elongated support has an "L" cross section from the edges of which longitudinal flanges project, forming angles of no less than 90.degree. with their respective legs.
Abstract: A cervical support to immobilize the cervical vertebral column and in the form of a padded collar enclosing the patient's neck is designed in such a way that in spite of the immobilization in the region required for that purpose, some head motion to actuate the muscles and to avoid a long-term unpleasant feeling of compression shall be possible. The invention provides that the cervical support shall be relatively rigid in a region supporting the head and relatively elastically deforming in another region.
Abstract: The invention concerns a transparency overhead projector having an illumination unit of which the height has been extremely reduced. The main component of the illumination unit is a specular surface comprising mutually parallel, mirrorized prismatic shoulders either on its top or on its lower side, which reflect the light from at least one lateral source toward the Fresnel lens, the platen and the projecting lens. The specular surface may be plane, however it may also be curved in circular, hyperbolic etc. manner in the longitudinal direction of the prismatic shoulders. This curvature may be constant or it may vary. Further, the specular surface also may be twisted, that is, it may also be curved in a direction orthogonal to the prismatic shoulders, and this curvature also may be constant or variable.
Abstract: A solenoid valve including a solenoid and a second solenoid to which a smaller electric current is applied han is applied to the first solenoid. The first solenoid is provided at a core, and the second solenoid is provided at a support member connected to the core. A cup-shaped plunger is connected to a valve body opening and closing a passage, and is moved in accordance with an energization of the solenoid, to open and close the valve body. A contact member is connected to the plunger and inclined relative to the bottom wall of the plunger, to come into tight contact with the support member. A first magnetic path is formed in the core and a cylindrical side wall of the plunger, and a second magnetic path is formed in the support member and the contact member.
