  • Patent number: 5676572
Abstract: A female terminal comprises a square cylindrical electric contact portion having an opening into which a male terminal is inserted, an elastic contact piece housed in the electric contact portion and brought into elastic contact with the inserted male terminal, the elastic contact piece being formed with two side lug portions, and at least one supporting portion formed on at least one of side walls of the electric contact portion for supporting at least one of the lug portions formed in the elastic contact piece. In order to prevent the elastic contact piece from being dislocated from the supporting portion without increasing the external size of the female terminal, the supporting portion is elastically bent around a vertical axis, or around both horizontal and vertical axes, inwardly over the side wall of the electric contact portion.

  • Patent number: 5672068
Abstract: A connecting structure in which a male connector can be fitted into a female connector by operating a joint lever is provided. The joint lever is rotatably attached to either the male connector or the female connector. The connecting structure further includes projections to be inserted into the guide grooves and a fit detecting member for detecting the fitting condition between the male connector and the female connector. In fitting the male connector into the female connector, the fit detecting member is released from its engaged condition in the temporary engagement position by rotation of the joint lever. In the case where the fit detecting member is engaged in the formal engagement position, the fit detecting member operates to prevent the joint lever from being rotated.

  • Patent number: 5672922
Abstract: In a non-commutating-pole commutator motor, in particular as the drive of a power hand tool, a device for reversing the direction of rotation includes a switch (8) for reversing the direction of current in the rotor winding, and a brush apparatus (4) mounted immovably in the motor casing. The rotation of the plane defined by the commutating coils is chosen in such a manner that good commutation is assured in one of the two directions of rotation at full motor output. Furthermore, the switch (8) for reversing the direction of rotation yields the preferred direction of rotation in a first switch position and the opposite direction in a second switch position. In the switch position for the preferred direction, a smaller number of turns of the field winding (1, 2) in the electric circuit of the motor is effectively provided while, in the opposite direction of rotation of the motor, a larger number of turns is effectively provided.

  • Patent number: 5662580
Abstract: Apparatus and methods are provided for relieving a stenosed region of a blood vessel such as a coronary using a single catheter that relieves the angioplasty by conventional means and then delivers an easily controllable inherently uniform dosage of radiation to the walls of a blood vessel for preventing restenosis after angioplasty. An embodiment of the apparatus comprises a catheter having an angioplasty balloon that is inflatable with a liquid containing a suspended radioactive material such as .sup.125 I or .sup.32 P. The balloon is surrounded by a membrane to capture the radioactive liquid in the event the balloon ruptures. The catheter is advanced through the patient until the balloon is disposed in the stenosed region of the blood vessel.

  • Patent number: 5656801
Abstract: A system and a method for counting the number of people passing a entry point in a predetermined direction. The system includes a foot-activated, pressure sensitive platform deployed at the entry point for providing a time-dependent pressure profile vector indicative of the manner in which a person arches one of his feet prior to at least partially stepping off the platform. The pressure profile vector is processed for determining whether the person completely passed through the entry point in the predetermined direction. In the affirmative case, a counter for recording the number of people completely passing through the entry point in the predetermined direction is incremented. The system can be adapted for providing a net count of the instantaneous number of people in a given area during the entering and leaving of people through an entry point into and from the given area.

  • Patent number: 5653734
Abstract: Atrial fibrillation disorders are treated by locating low impedance electrodes positioned on a single catheter body passing through the pulmonary artery valve to locate the electrodes respectively in the right atrium and the pulmonary artery. Thus an electrical energy impulse of the order of three joules is passed through a heart and tissue path establishing a field gradient for resetting atrially fibrillating cells to convert atrial fibrillation into sinus rhythm. A special non-implantable catheter for temporary use provided for this treatment method is characterized by an inflatable balloon on the distal tip end, two low impedance energy discharging electrodes spaced to reside respectively in the right atrium and the pulmonary artery and a flexible polymer catheter body sheath of a diameter of the order of two millimeters.
