Abstract: Disclosed is a nonvolatile memory device which utilizes a laser beam recrystallized silicon layer having source-channel-drain regions. Underlying the recrystallized layer and separated therefrom by a memory dielectric is a gate in alignment with the source and drain. The gate is formed directly on a substrate of an insulative material (e.g. non-silicon material). The process of forming the above device comprises forming a conductive polysilicon gate on a substrate followed by a memory nitride layer deposition thereon. A thick oxide layer is formed over the nitride followed by removal of the thick oxide corresponding to a central portion of the gate thereby exposing the nitride therebeneath. The exposed nitride surface is thermally converted into a thin, stoichiometric memory SiO.sub.2. A doped polysilicon layer is then formed on the structure and thereafter converted to recrystallized silicon by subjecting it to laser radiation.
Abstract: A drawer assembly which prevents a drawer from "jamming up" in a locked position when the drawer is slammed shut while a locking arm associated with a key lock on the drawer is in a locking position. A projection on a retainer clip located on the inside of the front panel of the drawer keeps the locking arm from being bent, and also keeps the drawer from moving to the closed position from which a latching mechanism asociated with the drawer would be placed in a locked position.
Abstract: A process for forming an asymmetrically structured pair of CMOS field effect transistors having feature refinements matched to the individual idiosyncrasies of the p-channel and n-channel transistors. Complementary transistors are formed using a single photolithographic mask and a fabrication sequence which begins with the p-channel transistor source/drain formation. Thereafter, the p-channel transistor source/drain regions are metalized, the n-channel transistor lightly doped drain regions are formed, and the sidewall dielectric spaced n-channel transistor source/drain regions are formed using the p-channel metalization as a mask. The p-channel transistor source/drain metalization suppresses the effects of the relatively greater p-type source/drain resistivity, while the LDD structure of the n-channel transistor reduces performance degradation attributable to hot electron trapping.
Abstract: A simple and reliable liquid level control for controlling the level of a cryogenic fluid within an enclosure for an electrical component. This totally mechanical system varies the flow rate of the cryogenic fluid from a supply conduit until the full level is attained at which point the flow is completely turned off. Details of materials used and construction considerations made in order to operate in this somewhat unstable environment are presented. The design includes the passages for exhausting the evaporated cryogenic fluid that is boiled off by the heat from the electrical component in the enclosure.
Abstract: An integrated circuit two transistor full wave rectifier suitable for fabrication in a CMOS, NMOS or PMOS process and characterized by a high level of integration based upon shared utilization of doped regions. In one form, the full wave rectifier is configured from two diode connected field effect transistors and two parasitic p-n junctions, all formed in a substrate region of common impurity type.
Abstract: A heat sink for conducting heat from an electronic device is disclosed. The device has a mounting base and two U-shaped members. Each U-shaped member has first and second walls integral with a top ridge. The first wall is integral with the base and extends away from the base and the second wall has a terminus portion proximate the first wall. Each U-shaped member is adapted to retain an electronic device between the first wall and the terminus portion.
Abstract: A point-of-sale system includes a plurality of terminals in which one of the terminals is selected to be a primary terminal and the remaining terminals are selected to be secondary terminals. Program means in the primary terminal will store the data messages received from the secondary terminals and transmit the received data messages to memory means in each of the secondary terminals. Each secondary terminal will determine if it has received all the data messages. If there is found to be a discrepancy in the number of data message received, the secondary terminal will notify the primary terminal of such a discrepancy and the primary terminal will supply the missing data messages.
Abstract: An incremental motion mechanism which utilizes first and second one-way clutches attached to the output shaft of the mechanism. The first one-way clutch is used to prevent back up of the output member, while the second one-way clutch is used to incrementally rotate the output shaft. First and second solenoids and associated linkage under the control of a controller are used for adjusting the extent of rotation of the output shaft.
Abstract: A compact register file circuit, especially valuable for CMOS VLSI circuits used with microcontrollers, which uses a pseudo static random access memory array circuit, a latch array circuit, and a decoder circuit to provide almost identical characteristics as available with a much larger static random access memory as a register set. The only differences visible to the user during a read operation is the requirement of keeping the address data value constant during the active portion of the pseudo static random access memory chip select waveform.
Abstract: A snap-fit fastening or mounting arrangement for a motor having a mounting flange. The fastening or mounting arrangement includes a side frame member having a pair of spring-like snap elements that are integral with the side frame member for securing the motor. The frame member also includes a pair of pilot studs integral therewith and positioned to be received by apertures in the mounting flange to resist torque of the motor. The side frame member includes a plurality of hubs as an integral portion thereof and gears are journaled on the hubs in an arrangement driven by the motor. A fastening element is provided with spring fingers which are inserted into the aperture of each hub and retained thereby to secure the respective gear on the hub.
Abstract: A bar code reader is provided with the capability of reading bar code symbols containing information for causing changes in the functions performed by said reader, as well as reading merchandise identification symbols commonly associated with items such as merchandise being checked out at a point of sale terminal. Tests are provided to determine that the bar code symbols for function changes are proper symbols, and are not merchandise identification symbols, such as UPC symbols.
Abstract: A document transport and printing apparatus which utilizes an associated clutch for use in printing and endorsing documents like checks at a printing station in the apparatus. The apparatus utilizes a single input shaft as an input member for the clutch and as an input member for a soft drive roller located at the printing station. The clutch utilizes a moveable sector portion which is moved between inactive and active positions to rotate an associated planetary member to provide a reduction in the rotary movement of the output member of the clutch when the sector portion is moved to the active position.
Abstract: A dot matrix print head has a heat sink substantially surrounding the head for dissipating heat therefrom. A print head carriage includes a pivot or bearing assembly on one side of the print head and includes a bail type clamp pivoted on the carriage on the other side of the print head. The arrangement allows the heat sink to swing from a covered print head operating position to an uncovered position for servicing or for removing the print head.
