  • Patent number: 5631880
Abstract: A rotatable indicator ring for a wristwatch is an assembly of a first ring of hard resin material rotatably mounted and retained ont he watch bezel, and a soft elastomeric second ring extending beyond and locked to the first ring. The first ring has decorative or functional indicia and the second ring has a frictional surface facilitating turning the assembly and protecting the watch from impact and shock.

  • Patent number: 5623185
Abstract: A drive circuit having a converter that provides current pulses that charge a capacitive electroluminescent (EL) lamp to produce light, a switching circuit that switches successive current pulses for progressively charging the EL lamp and an adjustable circuit that permits external control of the switching circuit to provide a plurality of different predetermined numbers of the current pulses to the EL lamp is disclosed.

  • Patent number: 5621702
Abstract: A liquid crystal calendar display device, especially suitable for an electronic timepiece, presents a full calendar month for all possible monthly calendars. Sunday, or any other selected day of the week, appears in the leftmost displayed column, regardless of the day which is the first date in the presented month. The area occupied by the date numerals is reduced by interleaving the date numerals.

  • Patent number: 5620348
Abstract: The method and structure for providing surface designs to electroluminescent (EL) lamps involves two essential steps. First, a layer of transflective material is introduced to the EL lamp comprising a transparent substrate and front and back electrodes sandwiching an electroluminescent layer and an insulating layer. The layer of transflective material reflects incident ambient light and transmits light emitted by an energized electroluminescent layer. In the preferred embodiment of the invention, the layer of transflective material replaces the front electrode of the EL lamp. Second, a predetermined surface design is provided to the transparent substrate to enhance diffusion and fringing of both the reflected incident ambient light and the light emitted by the energized electroluminescent layer. This enhanced diffusion and fringing leads to a visually appealing appearance.
