  • Patent number: 6696788
Abstract: An electric discharge lamp includes a light transmissive inner jacket that defines a sealed inner chamber, a first material in the inner chamber that emits light when activated, and a light transmissive outer jacket around the inner jacket. The outer jacket defines a sealed outer chamber between the inner and outer jackets that contains a second fill material. The second fill material, when activated by heat from the inner chamber when the lamp is operating, converts ultraviolet (UV) and deep blue light emitted from the inner chamber to visible light, thereby increasing an amount of visible light transmitted through the outer jacket compared to an amount of visible light transmitted through the inner jacket.

  • Patent number: 6682211
Abstract: Open LED chips may be arranged directly on the surface of a replaceable lamp capsule without intervening packages that reduce overall light emission. The chips may be oriented in such a way that the lamp generates a unique “donut” shape radiation pattern, which is suitable for a flat and shallow secondary optics to collimate the light into a desired beam pattern, and to reduce the unaesthetic appearance of points of light in an onlooker's view. The LED chips are driven in such a way that one chip fails, the whole lamp fails to avoid a partially lit appearance. At the same time the heat generated by the LED chips may be conducted away by the support structure to possibly vehicle's sheet metal to enhance life of the LED chip. The standardization of this LED lamp makes this product more cost effective thus to be used in broader lighting applications.

  • Patent number: 6641449
Abstract: A high pressure, lamp may be made in a pressure vessel by using an induction coil to melt an edge portion of a sealing wafer pressed against the circumference of an opening in the body of the lamp envelope. The pressure vessel and the lamp envelope are filled with desired fill materials. Induction heating is carried out by the induction coil and induction receiver that presses against the wafer, the lamp envelope or both to hold the melting piece or pieces in contact. The induction receiver may be fused to the lamp body forming a functional part of the overall lamp structure. The preferred resulting lamp includes a bonded metal piece that can be conveniently used for electrical or mechanical coupling or positioning of the lamp with respect to a base.

  • Patent number: 6628081
Abstract: An electric lamp, in particular a motor vehicle auxiliary light lamp, and a method for producing such a lam. The base of the lamp comprises an annular metal part (5) or resilient design for holding the lamp vessel (1), and a plastic part (6) provided with at least one hollow contact pin (7, 8). A supply lead (3, 4) projecting from the lamp vessel (1) is threaded into the hollow contact pin (7, 8) and welded to the latter such that the metal part (5) is under mechanical stress. In this way, backlash-free plug-and-socket connections are produced between the lamp vessel (1) and the metal part (5) or between the metal part (5) and the plastic part (6).

  • Patent number: 6628080
Abstract: A spring clip 10 for assembling a light source to a shroud comprises a base 12 extending in a first plane and having an aperture 14 centrally located therein. Aperture 14 is substantially circular and is provided with cutouts 14a to provide flexibility. Upstanding walls 16, 18, are provide, one at each end of the base 12. A first lip 20 extends orthogonally away from the wall 16 in a second plane and a second lip 22 extends orthogonally away from the wall 18, also in the second plane. The second plane is substantially parallel to the first plane but spaced therefrom. Flags 24, 26 are formed, respectively, with the lips 20, 22, the flags extending away from the lips in a plane transverse to the first and second planes. Extended ends of a light source are accommodated into the apertures 14 and the lips and walls of the clips frictionally engage an interior surface of a shroud.

  • Patent number: 6602547
Abstract: A new fluidized bed particle coating method is disclosed by the use of which coatings can be uniformly and conveniently deposited on the surfaces of fluidized particulate materials by vapor deposition processes at temperatures lower than those of the heated coating precursor transport lines. By this method, particle materials with relatively low surface temperatures may be brought into close proximity with a coating precursor containing gas stream characterized by a substantially higher gas volume temperature in such a way that the vaporized precursor molecules are caused to adsorb or condense on the relatively cold particle surfaces without also condensing on any other surface. Further, if the adsorbed precursor molecules are capable of reacting or polymerizing on the relatively cold particle surfaces, thus forming substantially continuous coatings on those surfaces, they may do so without also depositing such coatings on any other surfaces.

  • Patent number: 6579107
Abstract: A connector pin includes an electrically conductive rod having a first end that extends longitudinally from an edge of a circuit board. The rod includes a plug at an opposite end of the rod that is inserted into an electrical receptacle on the circuit board. The plug is orthogonal to a longitudinal axis of the rod. A clamping pivot arm is between the first end and the plug and is parallel to the plug. The clamping pivot arm terminates with a hook whose end points toward the plug. The connector pin is pivoted about the clamping pivot arm pivotally so that the plug is inserted into the receptacle on the circuit board. The edge of the circuit board has a notch therein and the clamping pivot arm engages the notch to prevent lateral movement of the connecting pin. The plug and the clamping pivot arm prevent longitudinal movement of the connecting pin.

  • Patent number: 6575415
Abstract: A mount assembly (20) for a lamp has a glass stem (22) having a first portion (24) that is tubular and has an outside diameter D2 and a second portion (26) formed as a pinch seal with at least one dimension greater than D2. A substantial C-shaped clip (10) is mounted upon the first portion (24). The C-shaped clip (10) has a given height H and an inside diameter D that is smaller than the outside diameter D2 whereby the clip (10) frictionally engages the first portion (24). A pair of substantially oppositely located cutouts (12, 14) is formed in the clip (10), each providing an extending flap (16, 18) projecting away from the clip (10). The clip is positioned on the first portion (24) such that at least a part of said second portion (26) is contained within the cutouts (12, 14). A first frame member (28) is affixed to the flap (16) and a second frame member (28) is affixed to the flap (18). This assembly accurate supports the structure and prevents rotation of the mount assembly.

  • Patent number: 6577065
Abstract: An electric lamp is provided which includes a sealed thin-walled outer envelope containing a fill gas having a high thermal conductivity. A lamp capsule is contained within the outer envelope and is in series with an oxidizable fuse also contained within the outer envelope. The fill gas serves to reduce the temperature of the fuse during normal operation of the lamp thereby reducing the power loss in the fuse, increasing overall lamp efficacy and eliminating glow of the fuse. The lamp capsule is quickly extinguished if the outer envelope is broken and the fuse exposed to air. In one embodiment, an incandescent lamp is provided wherein the lamp capsule is a tungsten halogen capsule, the fuse is a tungsten coil wire and the fill gas is helium.
