  • Patent number: 6113808
Abstract: An electroluminescent phosphor containing an effective amount of bismuth to increase the half-life of the phosphor compared to the half-life of the phosphor without the bismuth. The phosphor is produced by the method comprising the steps of preparing the electroluminescent phosphor; adding granular, elemental bismuth to the bottom of a quartz reaction vessel; covering the bismuth with a layer of quartz wool; placing the phosphor on top of the quartz wool; evacuating the reaction vessel to about 750-760 mm Hg and sealing the vessel; and heating the vessel to between about 500 to 700.degree. C. for about 24 to 72 hours.

  • Patent number: 6099330
Abstract: A connector assembly is provided which includes first and second connector housings. In order to facilitate complete mating of the housings, a lever is supported by the first housing. Pivotal movement of the lever causes gear-like elements associated with the lever and the second housing to urge the housings together. The lever is external of the connector assembly and the gear-like elements are internal thereof. The lever engages the first housing in such a manner as to prevent rotation of the lever until camming elements associated with the lever engage camming elements associated with the second housing.

  • Patent number: 6100634
Abstract: An arc discharge tube has electrodes supported by hollow electrode support tubes at each end. A slot is formed in the electrode support tube. One edge of the slot is depressed inwardly to form a concave surface. The slot is located adjacent to the end cap of the arc tube and provides access to the interior of the electrode support tube. After the electrode assembly is sealed into one end of the arc tube, amalgam particles are dispensed into the arc tube. The arc tube is agitated rapidly, causing the amalgam particles to pass through the slot and drop into the interior of the electrode support tube. The amalgam particles are isolated from heat during sealing of the other end of the arc tube.

  • Patent number: 6093045
Abstract: A connector module and a connector module kit which includes the components of the connector module, is provided. The connector module includes a first housing formed to house at least one first contact therein and a second housing formed to house at least one second contact therein. Insertion of the second housing into the first housing will cause each first contact to mate with each second contact. Such insertion also causes a latching mechanism located within the assembled first and second housing to latch the housings together so that they can not be readily disengaged.

  • Patent number: 6083038
Abstract: A bracket assembly is provided which includes a connector housing and a mating bracket housing. The bracket housing mates with the connector housing in a first mode such that the bracket housing may engage the connector housing in a first locked position. The bracket housing may then be pivoted relative to the connector housing such that the bracket housing engages the connector housing in a second locked position. During such pivoting, the bracket housing bends a conductor that is coupled to the connector housing such that a first length of conductor extends in a first direction and a second length of conductor extends at an angle relative to the first length.

  • Patent number: 6083030
Abstract: A connector latch is provided which includes a connector housing which extends through an engagement member. The engagement member is movable from one end of the connector housing to the other end. When moved to one end, the engagement member cams flexible latch arms of the connector housing towards the longitudinal axis thereof in a locked mode. When moved to the opposite end, the flexible latch arms reslide away from such axis in an unlocked mode. An electrical connector which includes such a connector latch is also provided. In such an embodiment, when male and female contacts are properly engaged, movement of the engagement member in the locked mode causes protuberances which extend from the flexible latch arms to extend into a connector housing groove thereby preventing disconnection of the contacts.

  • Patent number: 6064150
Abstract: A phosphor particle having thereon a conformal coating of aluminum nitride. By conformal coating is meant a coating that follows the surface contours of the individual particles. The method of making such phosphors comprises the steps of introducing an inert gas into a reaction vessel; charging phosphor particles into the reaction vessel; heating the reaction vessel to a reaction temperature; introducing a nitride coating precursor into the reaction vessel; introducing a coreactant into the reaction vessel; and maintaining the inert gas flow, coreactant flow and precursor supply for a time sufficient to coat the phosphor particles. The nitride coated phosphor particles produced by this method have excellent efficacy ratings and strong luminance values in lamps after 100 hours use in high humidity (i.e.,>95%).

  • Patent number: 6036569
Abstract: A mechanism for fabricating a metalarc lamp. The metalarc lamp has a glass stem, mount frames, and a banding strap for circumferentially encompassing and binding the mount frames to the glass stem. The mechanism defines a horizontal plane for the mount frames. The banding strap is mechanically clamped about the glass stem at opposite pole centers. Then, interlocking portions of the banding strap are crimped to affix the mount frames with respect to the glass stem.

  • Patent number: 6027356
Abstract: A female connector assembly that includes mating housings which may be latched together to enclose a female connector having resilient opposed curved arms and a resilient dome-shaped actuator disposed between such arms. Depression of the dome causes its lower edge to move radially outwardly to engage the inner surface of the arms to move such arms radially outwardly. Release of the dome allows the dome and resilient arms to resile to their original position. In use, the female connector assembly may be electrically and mechanically connected to a male connector to form a connector assembly. To this end, the male connector is inserted between the resilient arms of the female connector. Such insertion cams the arms radially outward until they are adjacent a recess in the male connector and snap radially inward against the male connector. To disconnect the connectors, the arms are caused to move radially outward by depression of the dome.
