Abstract: A multicomponent homogeneous polymer of (a) from about 30 to about 90 wt. % of a N-vinyl lactam, (b) from about 5 to about 30 wt. % of a quaternized and/or non-quaternized aminoalkylacrylic -ester and/or -amide, (c) from about 0.5 to about 30 wt. % of an unsaturated monomer selected from the group consisting of an acrylic ester or amide having a C.sub.4 to C.sub.22 alkyl group, a C.sub.4 to C.sub.22 .alpha.-olefin, a C.sub.4 to C.sub.22 vinyl ether (VE) and a vinyl ester of a C.sub.2 to C.sub.22 carboxylic acid and (d) from about 1 to about 30 wt. % of an unsubstituted acrylic or methacrylic acid and/or an unsubstituted amide of said acrylic or methacrylic acid and optionally, (e) up to 20 wt.
Abstract: A process for making derivatized polymers of maleic anhydride containing maleamic acid and its corresponding cyclic imide repeat units, in alcohol solution, at a temperature of about 60-160.degree. C., during a reaction period of about 1-25 hours. The product is a polymer having a predetermined ratio of the above repeat units. The polymers are included in personal care poducts.

Abstract: An improved hydrocarbon tolerant, aerosol hair spray resin composition includes a fixative polymer which is a tetrapolymer consisting essentially of (1) vinyl acetate, (2) vinyl neodecanoate or vinyl neononanoate, (3) monoisobutyl maleate and (4) N-t-butyl acrylamide, N-t-octyl acrylamide, or isobornyl (meth)acrylate, in a molar ratio from 10:10:15:1 to 26:1:15:1, preferably in a molar ratio of 12.5:7.5:15:1, exhibits advantageous small spray particle size, short tack and drying times, and hydrolytic stability, which are the desired performance characteristics on hair.
