Abstract: Methods for the preparation of pharmaceutically acceptable organic or inorganic salts of 5-methylpyrazinecarboxylic acid-4-oxide esters including tris(hydroxymethyl)aminomethanol, N,N-dimethylethanolamine, N-methyl-D-glucamine, L-Lysine, L-arginine, Na, K, Ca and Mg. The esters of 5-methylpyrazinecarboxylic acid-4-oxide are oxidized in aqueous hydrogen peroxide at a pH of 2.5 to 7 in the presence of a catalyst selected from the group consisting of sodium tungstate, tungstic acid and ammonium heptamolybdate. The salts are formed by saponification of the esters followed by alcohol precipitation, or by reaction with a metal trimethylsilanoate, or by the reaction of organic bases with the saponified acids.

Abstract: Methods for the preparation of pharmaceutically acceptable salts of 5-methylpyrazine-carboxylic acid-4-oxide by using the oxidizing agent OXONE® for the N-oxidation of C1-4 methylpyrazinecarboxylic acid esters. The pharmaceutically acceptable salts are then formed by the saponification of the esters followed by alcohol precipitation.

Abstract: What is described is a reactive extrusion process of making a polymeric hydrogel of a polymeric anhydride or acid, e.g. maleic anhydride or maleic acid polymer, or copolymer thereof, crosslinked with a crosslinking agent containing at least 2 crosslinkable groups, particularly, —OH or —NH2, or both. The reaction product is a crosslinked polymeric ester or amide/imide, or both, suitably having a mole ratio of —OH, or —NH2, to —COOH, of 1:10 to 10:1, preferably 2:10 to 7:1. The hydrogel is particularly swellable in water, e.g. >100% in 1 hour in aqueous media; and forms a thin, tacky layer on a substrate, which property is useful in bioadhesive products.
Abstract: What is described herein is a neutral pH, VOC-free biocidal composition of 1,2-benzisothiazolin-3-one which is stable at low temperatures for an extended period of time. The compositions are particularly advantageous in use in protecting latex, paint, coating, cosmetic and personal care formulations against microbiological spoilage.
Abstract: This invention relates to a reaction product of allantoin and formaldehyde made in a molar ratio of about 1:2.75–1:3.25, preferably 1:3, respectively, preferably under controlled pH (5.0 to 7.0) and temperature (40° to 85° C., preferably 50–60° C.) conditions, which product contains free formaldehyde (<0.1%), and methylene diol of about 580–1385 ppm, preferably at a pH of 7.2, with advantageous long-lasting, anti-microbial properties, particularly against the organism B. cepacia, and in combination products with parabens and iodopropynyl butyl carbamate (IPBC).
Abstract: This invention relates to back-to-back inverse packaging of a pair of tabbed, composite roofing shingles consisting of (a) a top sheet having a lower butt portion divided into spaced tabs and an upper undivided headlap portion carrying a horizontal band of nailing indicia on the lower portion of its exposed surface; (b) a backer strip underlying the tabs of the top sheet and filling the spaces between the tabs and (c) vertical projections of approximately similar shape and spacing as the tabs, positioned on the top horizontal margin of the backer strip which projections extend upwardly beyond said band of indicia at a distance not more than one half the width of said headlap portion and which are interposed above the spaces between the tabs.

Abstract: A method of producing gabapentin (1-amino-methyl)-1-cyclohexaneacetic acid) from its hydrochloric salt in an anhydrous medium, the method consisting of: dissolving gabapentin hydrochloride in a non-aqueous organic solvent in which gabapentin is insoluble to obtain a solution of gabapentin hydrochloride; adding an epoxide to the solution to remove the chloride ions thereby precipitating gabapentin out of the solution as a white solid; recovering the white solid by filtration; and drying the white solid.

Abstract: A nail gun and depth control spacer assembly for ejecting nails into a substrate which contains two or more layers of roofing materials one of which is a compressible fibrous layer. The nails penetrate the substrate but are prevented by the depth control spacer from permanently compressing the compressible fibrous layer which springs back to is original thickness after completion of the nailing process. The depth control spacer, attached to the base of the nail gun, is of semi-oval configuration having a pressure sensitive layer and a solid layer, is provided with an oval cavity in its center portion through which the nails are ejected into the substrate.

Abstract: This invention relates to an improved aqueous suspension concentrate for water insoluble chemicals comprising a mixture of an anionic suspension agent and a homo- and/or a co-polymer of a heterocyclic vinyl lactam combined in a mole ratio of between about 0.1:1 and about 10:1.
Abstract: Personal care products, particularly hair care products, are made herein by mixing (A) a polymer having defined repeat units of a monomer (e.g. ?-olefin) maleic anhydride alkyl half-ester or full acid, maleamic acid and maleimide, which is derivatized with an amine, and (B) a compound or polymer having a carboxylic acid functionality. These products exhibit excellent high humidity curl retention properties, as well as an advantageous blend of toughness and cohesiveness, and a strong affinity to natural fibers, when applied to keratin-based fibers, e.g. hair, skin, or textiles, e.g. cotton, wool; and also they are water-soluble and water-resistant.

Abstract: In the process for the conversion of maleic acid to gamma-butyrolactone, 1.4-butanediol and/or tetrahydrofuran, a feedstream comprising maleic acid is hydrogenated in a first hydrogenation zone to produce a reaction product comprising succinic acid and unreacted hydrogen which is then supplied to a second hydrogenation zone, where succinic acid is converted to 1,4-butanediol, the temperatures of the feedstream comprising maleic acid and the first hydrogenation zone are controlled such that the temperature of maleic acid in the feedstream and the first hydrogenation zone does not exceed about 130° C., thereby minimizing the corrosive effects of the maleic acid and prolonging reactor life and improving overall process economics.
