Abstract: An improved spiral membrane and module for cross flow filtration where several of the membrane envelopes are wavelike or corrugated in structure to allow unobstructed flow of the feed to reduce the feed path fouling when used to filter feed containing particulate matter.
Abstract: A hitch for a vehicular tow trailer which can be rigidly yet removably attached to a sleeve has a shaft which slides into the sleeve and locks with a pin in a conventional manner. The shaft is divided into two sections that are separated by parallel planes that are inclined to the direction the shaft is inserted in the sleeve. The sections are connected by a bolt which traverses the inclined planes threading into one section while being operable from the outside of the other. Tightening of the bolt causes the sections to slide to opposite sides of the sleeve, wedging the shaft within the sleeve and eliminating play between the shaft and sleeve.
Abstract: A strapping system for maintaining a motorcycle in an upright position during transport including two interconnected straps with cuffs engaging the grips of the handle bars.
Abstract: An assembly for hanging a vehicle tow trailer vertically in a stowed position on a vehicle. The assembly includes a hitch donkey which moves upward and downward along a vertical post to carry the vehicle tow trailer to its stowed or deployed position. The most common application of this assembly would be to the rear end of a motor home where towing trailers are often attached during travel.
Abstract: A device which serves the dual purpose of allowing locking or the bicycle to prevent theft and to allow inflation of a bicycle tire tube. The device includes a U-shaped shackle having its open end closed by a cross member which defines an air pump for inflating a bicycle tire.
Abstract: An apparatus for towing one motor vehicle behind another is attached to the front end of the vehicle to be towed. When not in use, the apparatus can be folded sideways while still attached to the vehicle, so as not to obstruct the driver's vision.
Abstract: A jack for insertion through a hole in a sheetrock wall for use in repairing such hole with the jack becoming a structural member of such wall.
Abstract: A hanger for constructing concrete curb forms and form from a continuous metal rod bent so that the hanger can be attached to a backboard and faceboard and secured to a backboard stake to position and support the faceboard.
Abstract: A laminated composite and a method for forming the composite by chemical vapor deposition. The composite includes a layer of sialon and a material to which the layer is bonded. The method includes the steps of exposing a surface of the material to an ammonia containing atmosphere; heating the surface to at least about 1200.degree. C.; and impinging a gas containing in a flowing atmosphere of air N.sub.2, SiCl.sub.4, and AlCl.sub.3 on the surface.

Abstract: It has been difficult to provide adaquate lubrication for load bearing, engine components when such engines are operating in excess of about 475.degree. C. The present invention is a process for providing a solid lubricant on a load bearing, solid surface (14), such as in an engine (10) being operated at temperatures in excess of about 475.degree. C. The process comprises contacting and maintaining steps. A gas phase (42) is provided which includes at least one component reactable in a temperature dependent reaction to form a solid lubricant. The gas phase is contacted with the load bearing surface. The load bearing surface is maintained at a temperature which causes reaction of the gas phase component and the formation of the solid lubricant. The solid lubricant is formed directly on the load bearing surface. The method is particularly suitable for use with ceramic engines.

Abstract: A composite and a method for bonding the composite. The composite includes a ceramic portion of silicon nitride, a refractory metal portion and a layer of MoSi.sub.2 indirectly bonding the composite together. The method includes contacting the layer of MoSi.sub.2 with a surface of the silicon nitride and with a surface of the metal; heating the layer to a temperature below 1400.degree. C.; and, simultaneously with the heating, compressing the layer such that the contacting is with a pressure of at least 30 MPa. This composite overcomes useful life problems in the fabrication of parts for a helical expander for use in power generation.

Abstract: Intermetallic compounds with the CaCu.sub.5 type of crystal structure, particularly LaNiCo.sub.4 and CaNi.sub.5, exhibit high separation factors and fast equilibrium times and therefore are useful for packing a chromatographic hydrogen isotope separation colum. The addition of an inert metal to dilute the hydride improves performance of the column. A large scale mutli-stage chromatographic separation process run as a secondary process off a hydrogen feedstream from an industrial plant which uses large volumes of hydrogen can produce large quantities of heavy water at an effective cost for use in heavy water reactors.

Abstract: A ferritic cryogenic steel which has a relatively low (about 4-6%) manganese content and which has been made suitable for use at cryogenic temperatures by a thermal cycling treatment followed by a final tempering. The steel includes 4-6% manganese, 0.02-0.06% carbon, 0.1-0.4% molybdenum and 0-3% nickel.
Abstract: Primary diamines of the formula ##STR1## wherein R is a straight chain saturated hydrocarbon of 2 to 4 carbons, a disubstituted benzene ring, or disubstituted dibenzo methane for use as a curing agent for epoxy resins. These curing agents can be used to form epoxy resin mixtures useful in filament winding and pre-impregnated fiber molding and in formulating film adhesives, powder coatings and molding powders. The epoxy mixtures form for such uses as room temperature non-reacting, intermediate stable state which has a latent cross-linking capability.

Abstract: A three phase process for determining total organic halides in water. The first phase is a sorptive process including passing a liquid through a packed bed of sorptive material thereby removing quantitatively, purgeable and non-purgeable, organic halides and thereafter passing an inorganic halide displacement wash solution through the bed to displace inorganic halides. The second and third phases are a combination combustion and titration whereby organic bromides and other organic halides entering the combustion phase are quantitatively titrated coulometrically.
