Patent number: 4553360Abstract: An awning window frame is disclosed which defines a supporting shelf positioned to support a rigid glazing pane, such as glass. The frame defines a ridge extending over the support surface in a spaced relationship thereto, and this ridge is shaped and configured to retain a beading strip. The beading strip fits between the ridge and the supporting shelf in order to conceal the junction between rigid glazing pane and the shelf. When it is desired to use the window frame with a flexible glazing sheet, such as a plastic sheet, the beading and pane are removed and the sheet is held in place on the window frame by means of a channel and spline arrangement. In some preferred embodiments, the channel is defined in the supporting shelf such that the window frame serves to support both the flexible glazing sheet and the rigid glazing pane in the same plane.Type: GrantFiled: July 18, 1983Date of Patent: November 19, 1985Inventor: Charles D. Patent number: 4552043Abstract: A multibit screwdriver has a plurality of bits provided in a circular pattern within a handle magazine. A rotatable selector cup at the end of the handle permits selection of a desired bit from the magazine and placement in a chuck in the handle. An elongate slot is provided in the cup to permit the manipulation of the bit. The improvement in this screwdriver arrangement comprises an adaptation to the chuck and bit ends so that the selected bit end is readily placed within the chuck. This feature is accomplished by providing a number of operative faces on the bit end equal to the number of bits provided in the handle. Similarly, the chuck has a bore presenting a corresponding plurality of internal operative faces for engaging the bit end.Type: GrantFiled: December 14, 1984Date of Patent: November 12, 1985Inventors: Antonio Corona, Franco O. Patent number: 4549354Abstract: A measuring system for measuring the relative position of tool machine parts compensates for thermally-induced length changes of a spindle stock by means of a scale carrier which acts as an expansion element for a scale. This scale carrier is fastened at one end directly via a fastening element to the spindle stock and at the other end is connected with an adjacent end of the scale, which is mounted on the scale carrier so as to be shiftable in the measuring direction. If the plane of the tool connected to the spindle stock shifts by an amount .DELTA.c in the measuring direction X as a result of temperature rises of the spindle stock, the scale carrier, operating as an expansion element, acts to pivot a rotatable element having an adjustable lever ratio in order to shift the scale in the same direction. In this way, the entire thermally-conditioned displacement of the scale is also made to equal the amount .DELTA.c.Type: GrantFiled: April 24, 1984Date of Patent: October 29, 1985Assignee: Dr. Johannes Heidenhain GmbHInventors: Alfred Affa, Alfons Ernst

Patent number: 4548462Abstract: An improved cable clamping device includes a J-shaped female member which pivotably receives the head of a male clamping member. The male member defines a bore and a window extending through the tail of the member adjacent to the bore. This window is provided with a width greater than that of the bore. The female clamping member defines a raised clamping surface situated within the window when the connector is closed. This raised surface is provided with a flat, ridged contour and cooperates with the window to cause the free end of the cable to be spread laterally as the connector is closed. This lateral spreading increases pull-out resistance. Additionally, the connector is configured to ensure that two pairs of opposed clamping surfaces are provided, and that the clamping surfaces in each pair are axially spaced from one another ensuring a crimping rather than a pinching action.Type: GrantFiled: January 10, 1984Date of Patent: October 22, 1985Assignee: Pan Electric CorporationInventor: Paul A. Patent number: 4539900Abstract: Food products, for example, hamburger patties, are more rapidly cooked than with existing system and with reduced shrinkage. A cooking appliance is provided having a plurality of parallel spaced heat transfer fins. An array of projecting cooking grills on which the hamburger patty is impaled are thermally connected to said heat transfer fins. This composite cooking appliance is substantially immersed in a liquid heating medium so that heat is transferred through the fins and projecting grills to the interior of the hamburger patty. In this way cooking is accomplished in a relatively short period of time, and the amount of fat and meat juices that are melted or boiled away is reduced. A system for placing the hamburger patty on the cooking grills transports the patty to the cooking grills, then allows the patty to be impaled onto the grills.Type: GrantFiled: April 27, 1984Date of Patent: September 10, 1985Assignee: International Food Equipment, Inc.Inventor: Claude A. Patent number: 4539992Abstract: An external command device and an internal decoding and verification device are used to non-invasively alter the operating parameters of a programmable device implanted in an animal body. Thus, physiological changes can be easily accommodated by the implanted device. In a preferred embodiment, pulse position modulation is used to externally encode the command information. A resulting string of current pulses generates voltage spikes (in the internal decoding device) through inductively coupled coils. Each incoming data bit is verified and the entire command word is verified. After verification, the decoded command is transferred to a command register for simultaneously altering the selected operating parameters. The internal receiver circuitry may conveniently utilize energy from the induced voltage spike, using passive components for forming an output suitable for processing.Type: GrantFiled: April 25, 1983Date of Patent: September 10, 1985Assignee: Intermedics, Inc.Inventors: Richard V. Patent number: 4538740Abstract: A tamper resistant closure for screw top and other containers is provided which resists and visibly discloses attempted tampering. A heat shrinkable plastic sleeve including at least one row of longitudinal mechanical weakness, such as a line of perforations, snuggly surrounds both the screw cap and a portion of the neck of the associated container. Sharp protruding teeth integral to the covered portion of the container neck interfere with the longitudinal weak areas when the shrunk sleeving is forcibly rotated during an attempted tampering, causing a portion of the plastic material to rupture and indicating tampering. By providing a second row of longitudinal weakness, such as a second closely spaced parallel line of perforations, a tear-away portion results whereby the features which provide indication of tampering also provide a convenient means for desired removal of the protective sleeve by the intended user.Type: GrantFiled: December 27, 1983Date of Patent: September 3, 1985Assignee: Fantasy Flavors, Inc.Inventor: Benjamin R.
