Abstract: Clients using standard software protocols may access a manipulation application server for manipulation service on data via a number of methods including Internet applications, a Java RMI server, a CORBA gateway server and graphical screen interphase applications. The manipulation server provides manipulation service on the data based on dynamically maintained, centrally stored manipulation functions.

Abstract: A method of coupling a wireless portable communications device (PCD) to a base station by way of a second network is disclosed. The PCD is normally in communication with the base station by way of a first network, and is coupled to the base station by way of the second network when the PCD is out of communication with the base station by way of the first network. In particular, the PCD is coupled to the second network, and is caused to leave an base station mode and enter a second network mode. A network connection is established with the base station by way of the second network, and communication with the base station is entered into by way of the second network.

Abstract: Systems and methods are disclosed that include a user interface that enables a user to request a pre-defined report. The user may specify either or both of an electronic mail delivery address for the report and an interval at which the report is to be updated. Such systems and methods enable a particular report to be produced and formatted only once, and then provided to multiple users, thereby eliminating the production and formatting of redundant reports.

Abstract: A wireless communications system providing interactive voice response is disclosed. The system is menu-driven, and can accept information and requests from customers. In response to one type of request, the system can provide the customer with information regarding one or more previous transactions. The system also includes provisions that permit customers to retrieve multiple previous transactions.

Abstract: Apparatus and methods provide for a tracheotomy to be performed on a patient. The apparatus includes an applicator base with an aperture placed over the trachea. A firing mechanism is triggered by application of manual force to an actuator to propel a cutting instrument and grommet through the aperture of the applicator base to insert the grommet into the trachea. A supply of breathable gas may be provided through an air passage of the grommet and into the trachea and lungs of the patient. The methods provide for placing an applicator base of a tracheotomy device onto the neck of the patient so that a curvature of the applicator base fits to the curvature of the trachea and so that an aperture is over the trachea.

Abstract: As part of handling a large amount of error information generated on a mainframe system associated, for example, with a telephone billing system, a utility software program allows a user to easily process the error information. The information is generated by the mainframe in flat file format and converted into spreadsheet format. This compilation of error messages is then sent electronically as a spreadsheet to an operator responsible for processing the error messages. The utility software automatically opens the spreadsheet and saves then information locally in a relational database. The operator then opens the database and disposes of the error messages. Upon completion, the utility software appends the disposed information to an SQL database residing on a network. The utility software then establishes communication with a mainframe and transfers the error message disposition to the mainframe where this information is merged with the existing error messages and disposed of accordingly.

Abstract: A communications network-based system and service is disclosed. The service permits subscribers to control and manage incoming telephone calls. Subscribers can establish preferences for how calls will be handled by a communications network if the calls are received while the subscriber has a privacy screening service engaged. The service also notifies a subscriber of a calling party's call based on whether preselected or predesignated preferences of the called party correspond to identifier(s) of the calling party.

Abstract: Methods and systems are provided for delivering travel related information with an intelligent network. One method embodiment includes establishing a communication with the intelligent network through an access device, determining a location of the access device, and obtaining the travel-related information with the access device through the intelligent network, wherein the travel-related information includes data related to a location of the access device. Additional system and computer-readable media embodiments of the present methods and systems are also provided.

Abstract: A modem including a removable DSL filter cartridge is disclosed. The modem includes a location adapted to receive a filter cartridge. The filter cartridge is designed to fit inside the location provided on the modem. The filter cartridge includes a first end that electrically connects the filter cartridge to the modem and a second end that faces outwards. The second end includes a telephone connector or port so that users can plug telephones directly into the port. The filter cartridge includes a DSL filter to help eliminate unwanted noise on the telephone line and the filter cartridge is designed to be easily removable.

Abstract: A system and method for verifying charges on a customer bill includes a computers for downloading, from a mainframe computer, to a local server billing data associated with a customer account, populating a database with a portion of the billing data, performing pre-calculation functions on another portion of the billing data and populating the database with results of the pre-calculation functions, displaying predetermined categories of information stored in the database, calculating the taxes for each of several charges in the billing data and storing tax results in the database, and comparing the tax results with tax information on the customer bill.

Abstract: Improvements to existing trap-generated message memory purge procedures and processes are shown and described. The improvements may be implemented in a telecommunications system having a plurality of managed elements, each of the managed elements potentially generating traps which are communicated to one or more fault servers.

Abstract: A method of measuring frequency interference between adjacent cell sites in a wireless telecommunications system. The method includes selecting a frequency in a cell site to be used as a beacon frequency. The method also includes activating the beacon frequency in the cell site and recording, at a telecommunications switch, a signal strength of the beacon frequency as measured by a first wireless device operating in the cell site and a signal strength of the beacon frequency as measured by a second wireless device operating in another cell site. The method further includes determining the frequency interference between the cell site and the other cell site based on the signal strengths.

Abstract: A system and method for documenting delays associated with a project. The present invention includes provisions that enables a field personnel working on a project on the field to document excusable delays as the delays are encountered. The field personnel is equipped with a communications device that has access to a server. During a communications session between the communications device and the server, the field personnel uses the communications device to upload project information related to the delays to the server. The server then invokes or updates a DMT to document the time associated with the delays. The delay time documented in the DMT is then subtracted from a total time reported by a maintenance clock associated with the project.

Abstract: A system for intelligently sorting e-mail comprises a client which downloads e-mails from a server. Prior to presenting the e-mails to the user, the client sorts the e-mail into classifications based upon whether the e-mail is from a personal contact, i.e. someone that that the user knows, whether the e-mail is from a commercial vendor from whom the user has indicated that he or she wishes to accept commercial e-mail, or whether the e-mail is from an unknown source. The client presents the e-mails to the user in these classifications.

Abstract: An apparatus, method, and computer readable medium for automatically notifying a network administrator of a mismatch between a current software version level in a telecommunications switch and a corresponding entry in a database. The apparatus includes a computer for querying the telecommunications switch for the current software version level of the switch and for querying the database, wherein the database is associated with a switch translation system and the database includes an entry associated with the software version level of the switch. The computer compares the current software version level of the switch with the database entry associated with the software version level of the switch.
